Nestled in the Seven Valleys, Black Gold was originally the old Wallerawang School, built in 1881. Through a series of imaginative transformations since 1995, Black Gold Motel & The Crib Room Restaurant was created – a clean, comfortable, unique, award-winning experience. Surrounded by world-class attractions such as the Glow Worm Tunnel, Zig Zag Railway, Capertee Valley, Jenolan Caves, Wolgan Valley. If you are into dirt bikes, off-road 4WD, bush walking, bird watching, fishing, or anything in the outdoors, you will be surrounded by endless opportunity. Despite its humble foundations, Black Gold Motel has established itself amongst some of the best hotels in Australia for service. Trip Advisor awarded us the 2020 Travellers Choice “Best of the Best” award for service which placed us #5 in Australia & #11 in South Pacific. The walls of the Black Gold Motel carry echoes of the region’s mining history. The name ‘Black Gold’ is derived from the local coal mining industry. The coal was nicknamed ‘black gold’. The buildings of the Motel have fond memories for generations of locals who attended the school, and the boutique property stands as a proud icon of the town. In recognition of the property’s history, many rooms are named after school teachers & local mines to celebrate the rich industrial history of the area.
My wife and I stayed there for a night and loved it. Staff couldn’t do enough for us. Restaurant & bar really good and not something we expected. Rooms clean and well appointed and wifi worked well. Would recommend.

I was not so pleased with the Zig Zag this time. The next door room was playing movies until late into the night and I couldn't sleep. They also smoked outside my bathroom window and smoke came into my room before I had a chance to shut the bathroom window.

We recently stayed in Lithgow. I pulled into the Parkside. First mistake. The women at the counter, I found rude. We arrived at our room ant found that it was tiny. The fridge on the floor was turned off and half of the lights didn't work. The restaurant was closed because of staff shortages so no food. Although was a KFC across the road. Terrible nights sleep. Beds terrible.!!!! In the morning our daughter was a bit slow getting ready. We received a visit by the same women who I take it is the boss. Telling us that check out was10am. The time was 10.15am. Quite rude as seems to be the case in other reviews. We left here shaking our heads and feeling ripped. Never again.

This is the worse hotel I have ever stayed at. Booked in advance. When I arrived was given a room with no tv and wires hanging out of the wall. Sorry they said. But luckily I brought a lap top abd could watch shows via their Internet they said but it never connected. Reception told me bad luck. Toilet? Will put up photos. Noise pollution to extreme. Food average. Very noisy but was a Sat night with lots of happy young ones

Commercial Hotel Wallerawang first opened its doors way back in 1871. It had a major renovation about 40 years later with a very recent refurbishment and now looks and feels as good as new. The Commercial Hotel has all the welcoming features of a community pub. If you’re looking for accommodation for the night, a fabulous meal in the bistro, a cold beer or some fine wine, there are facilities aplenty to make your stay a real winner. Sports fans love the pub and enjoy a game of Keno or a bet on the horses as well. There’s nothing like finding welcoming accommodation after a day of travel. Whether you’re passing through Wallerawang or staying for a while, you can rest your weary head in any one of our recently refurbished rooms or self-contained cabins. The service is friendly, the price ever so reasonable, and of course you have lunch and dinner waiting for you in the pub. In the warmer months, you can be wined and dined in our outdoor setting. In the cooler months you’ll want to dine or have a drink in our bar or bistro. It’s all so lovely and warm with our fabulous open fire to go with our fabulous food and beverages. We are a great venue for parties and gatherings.
Classic country pub. Rooms motel-style with TV, a/c, fridge, kettle, furnished. Very clean & well presented. $45 single! Shared bathrooms, recent renovated. Got that huge verandah over the main street which is the hallmark of these smalltown pubs. Kay runs the bar downstairs, very friendly and helpful. I've stayed here several times over the last 5 years and highly recommend.

This motel is away from the centre of town but close enough to go in for dinner. It has small rooms - although I only stay in a budget double - but if all you need is a warm room for the night then here is your answer. The bathrooms have been refurbished nicely and yes they are small but so is the nightly rate. Beds are firm and comfortable, they have electric blankets and a wall heater so you should not feel cold. The room has a small table/bench, a bar fridge and a cupboard. Pillows are a bit thin for me. TV is tiny but so is the distance to it. The owners/managers are very friendly and helpful. Wifi is decent enough to look up youtube for videos. I stay in Lithgow regularly and this is my go-to motel. You can pay more but for me this suits my needs and I am always happy to return

Upon arrival was made to fill in covid form and travel details. Have to disclose All travellers and upon staying there restricted to 1 visitor for a MAXIMIUM OF 2HRS per day, after my visitors had to filled in more forms, MY VISTORS WAS ALSO TOLD EARLIER THAT DAY THEY WAS NOT PERMITTED TO GET OUT OF THERE CAR TO EVEN KNOCK ON MY OWN MOTORHOME. Very few travellers was here and can understand why. Reception was horrible .treated badly and was very rude and demanding , they choose where you park and amenities was dirty, no toilet pit for motorhome, $5 to do one load of washing, the road to caravan park was terrible. Lined with many overhanging trees. Right next to rail line, supose to be covid smart but put all residents in one spot all together. Roads inside the park was dirt and covered in overhanging trees. Showers was warm for about 2 min then freezing. Payed $40 for powered site per night then got told the power charges are extra. Absolutely no pets aloud. Out of all the places I've stayed in NSW and QLD this was the worst. Won't be going back ever!!
