A Lovely Stay

Comfortable rooms with excellent hosts

An incredibly warm welcome from Paul & Jill, who were great company and went to extra efforts to accommodate a decorative request, which was much appreciated. Our room (number 1) was comfortable, private and ideal for a day to wind down after our wedding the day before. The breakfast room (converted pub lounge) was also comfortable and charming, especially alongside a delicious cooked breakfast!

Good one night stop

Reviewed By Richard-CI

A nice one night stop over, but not as good as it looks in the photos, or sounds in the reviews. Small rooms with shower head over the bath (but not a shower). Lots of little bits of maintenance required. Simple continental breakfast in the bar area. Could be noisy at night if the bar was busy? The manager is very friendly, chatty and charming.

Absolutely amazing!

We had such an amazing stay here. I almost don’t want to recommend it as everyone will book! The rooms are spotless. Louise is so kind and welcoming. Her breakfast was delicious and set us up ready for a busy day. We loved being here and I’ve looked a couple of times at dates to rebook and they’re busy, which is testament to how amazing this b&b is. Thank you so much for our wonderful stay x

Great impressions, stayed over night for the Queens Platinum Jubilee weekend celebrations

Reviewed By Z7012ZQstevet

Great impressions, stayed over night for the Queens Platinum Jubilee weekend celebrations On arrival the Hotel Rudyard is an impressive stone building set within its own gardens with woodland views. We arrived early for check in and were met by Jess, whom promptly, politely and professionally dealt with our hotel booking. Within the hour, whilst we had coffee at a reasonable £3, Jess had contacted housekeeping for the availability of our room and we were then shown to our room. Thoughtout our stay Jess and the team of ladies offered such a friendly and professional customer service. Nothing was not too much trouble to make our stay so enjoyable, front of house customer service at its best. And all this was at a busy time as a wedding and their party was to take place. Now time to explore. At the end of the large car park there is to be found a short track that leads down to the Rudyard Boating Lake which is some 2.3 miles in length, with its visitor centre, café, toilets, walks, fishing or boat hire. In the distance we could also hear the Rudyard Lake miniature steam train railway. Alton Towers is close by. Back for brunch, our burgers and sides were just amazing. This would not be a true review without the mention of some correctable points, smelly gent toilets, room 6 double bed was small in size and the rear bathroom window opened to the aroma of the close by kitchen air vent. Maybe bedroom number 6 would be best suited to a circus midget. Jess and the team of ladies certainly made up for any small shortfalls of bedroom number 6. What a wonderful and memorable end to celebrating the Queens Platinum Jubilee weekend celebrations. A big thank you goes out to Jess and the team of ladies, not to mention the chef too...

Lovely little break

Booked this through buya gift experience for a over night hottub garden room with a two course evening meal, breakfast and spa access the next morning with a beach hut experience. This place is lovely, staff were very friendly and helpful, I'd arranged for a banner to be sent there prior to our arrival of which the staff kindly pinned it to the fence in our garden area. Lovely place to relax for the night. Room was perfect for a couple, beautifully presented with a large bathroom. Lovely little garden area with lovely views. The evening meal was fab, could not fault any of it. We both thoroughly enjoyed what we had, breakfast was help yourself which suited us just fine, I'd rather pick what I want and how much. The spa was lovely nice and relaxing. I'd also booked my partner a bck massage which he said was good. All staff in the spa and the pub reception staff were all polite friendly and helpful. I would definitly stay here again. Its location its brilliant for exploring the roaches too

Arrived parked not in the space we had been told would be there with our room name on in so just parked in a free space we a view to move once we knew what was what, got out of the car to stretch legs get bearings and find out where our accommodation was and was greeted with pull your car forward right up to the wall, in rather a sharp officious tone in fact head mistress, having subsequently having read other reviews Mrs Basil Fawltey really sums it up. So not good evening, hello or can I help, did you gave a good journey oh no. Next came have you got your booking reference, my reply that was my husbands dept, who was now in the car moving it as commanded, have you got your key code, again my husband had that, still in the car by which time the woman don't know her name as she didn't have the good manners to even introduce herself gad wondered off. so we were left to find the room our selves, manners are free and make the experience either good or bad. TV controller didn't work nice young lady got batteries and was helpful. Ropm very cold and heater didn't overly warm the room thank goodness I packed my hot water bottle filling the kettle was interesting to say the least (see picture attached) well when we booked there wasn't a choice for breakfast, breakfast included so was expecting a cooked breakfast (the description for breakfast is well hidden so be warned as we found it after booking) is to set us up for the next part of our long road trip, while I'm not against a continental breakfast quality or something edible would be good we were met with a food basket of cheap bookers items croissiants that had looked like they had been recycled many times cold hard squashed wrapped by someone in clingfilm no sell by date no ingredients list. pre wrapped cheap pan au chocolat We left that as it was utterly disgusting, how long it had they been in that room b4 we arrived who knows Shame as a little extra effort could be sooo good. Becareful leaving the rose room in the dark as tripped down the small step as dark and no lights. Room nice but odd having a locked door, where you can hear people the other side. Tacky posters on the wall Heating goes off and you can't put it back on so in January be pre pared to freeze. We did message via website and text and the heating was put back on but was off again by morning. We had no actual response from our requests. Never ever in all the years I've travelled and stayed in many many hotels B&Bs farms cottages gave I been asked /told to strip the bed before my departure well I didn't, I paid for the room I don't expect to have to do there job I'm on my holidays, do enough of that at home. I expect having now read many reviews for The hen cloud, "Mrs Fawltey" as I don't know her name to respond with it being all my fault excuses as she really isn't listening to all her past customers and really bad reviews, we have no complaint about the venue or location but her rudeness and poor breakfast any self respecting business woman would try to take on board these really negative comments and look at improving them. the world with social media now is very small and there's lots of really good competition out there. Good luck if you do end up staying there.

Leek Camping Barns

Leek Camping Barns are ideally situated to be your base to explore the local area around the lovely traditional market town of Leek, in the Staffordshire Moorlands. It is within easy walking distance (1 mile) of the town, but in the great British countryside that opens onto beautiful views across open countryside to Bradnop and Morridge where you can enjoy your camping experience in more comfort than a tent (sleeping bag and airbed required). There are two barns offering budget (£10 pppn) accommodation to campers who want to be free of lugging their tents around and have added protection from the great British weather that can spoil what should be an enjoyable experience. The barns are part of Padwick Farm which was built in 1848 of lovely mottled pink sandstone. The traditional cowsheds use to house milking jersey cows until recently. The barns are kept in their traditional black and white style. The character has been retained as much as possible and materials recycled to be environmentally friendly. The dairy is now a shower room and has been extended using wood from the old hen cote to accommodate a communal area. The bottom barn sleeps up to eight people and the top barn sleeps up to seven people on wooden platforms. Sleeping bags are required. There are basic cooking facilities in each barn and a covered communal area with wood burning stove. There is also the opportunity to have a traditional camp fire in a ring of stones. Individual, groups and pets welcome subject to terms and conditions. Booking is advisable. There is off road parking and security lighting for more peace of mind.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at Leek Camping Barns. Alison is a wonderful host. The barns have everything you need and are clean and comfortable. The compost toilets are clean and do not smell. The site brings the feel of real camping without the hassle of setting up. Each barn has it's own allocated firepit and covered outdoor dining area. If you love camping then this is the place for you. We will definitely be returning
