The Rio Lacanja Camp offer lodging and food services through a natural setting surrounded by lush vegetation. The camp has rustic cabins on the riverside, restaurant, visitor center, swimming area, selling handicrafts and an interpretative trail where you will learn more about this fragile ecosystem. The camp is open the all year long, is located in the Lacandona indigenous community of "Lacanja Chansayab" two hours far from Palenque, from here you can visit the archeological sites of Bonampak and Lacanja and also we are 40 min.Far from Frontera Corozal community where the boats depart to visit the beautiful archaeological site of Yaxchilan. As well we offer rafting in the Lacanja river.
Nice place, decent big rooms, beautiful surroundings, good location to visit Bonampak. Too bad they only serve quesadillas, sandwiches and stuff like that for dinner. We would have loved local food, but the people in charge say many tourists are difficult. If you travel to foreign destinations you should be open to new things and ready to taste local food.

This really is a lovely place with very friendly people. However, it really wasn't right for us and overall we didn't have the best time here. The lodge is run by a family, but only one of them can speak English. Justita was really helpful and friendly and actually really helped us out one day when we ran out of cash, which was much appreciated. No cash machines nearby (it is the jungle after all!), so make sure you stock up for any tours you want to do before you set off to Lacanja. The room was nice enough, rustic just as described on their website - it's pretty much what I expected. The shower was hot and there are hammocks behind the huts to laze about in, very nice. The language barrier I think was the biggest factor affecting our enjoyment of the place - we couldn't really speak to any of the family and to be honest they didn't make much of an effort to help us understand them. If you can speak Spanish you may well have a much better experience than us. The food was really same-y and uninspiring, which was a bit of shame. The tours (we did them all) were nice and - if you're into that sort of thing - I really recommend the rafting!

First Things First: The Staff is really friendly and helpful. The owner is partaking in some very important crocodile refugee and reforresting of jungle areas, which we´re happy to support with our stay there. But: The cabin we had was really dirty, the bed was smelling like mildew and there were bite-marks on the cushions - maybe from mices. The Moskito-net had holes in it and there were huge loads of moskitoes around (which nobody can be accused of....) - but a fan to the room would have minimized the problem - of which we had none. Sadly the pic´s provided by trip-advisor do not match the truth. I´m quite shure, that around the time the accomodation was opened a couple of years ago, it had been quite nice there - but you can see, that there is no work done, to keep up the good looks it for shure had some years ago.
