Kyoto is Japan's most traditional city. The lush and verdant cityscape encompasses sprawling rock gardens, vast palaces, and tall temples. The streets are alive with businessmen hurrying past Geiko and Makio in their full kimono, both on their way to work along cherry-tree lined walks. A historic hub that celebrates Japanese culture, from kabuki to textile weaving, Kyoto can also be surprisingly modern. It is one of Japan's largest, busiest, and most visited cities, with packed shopping mega-centers and high-rise offices. Suffused with shrines, outdoor markets, and nature walks, the small but bountiful location is also home to some of Japan's most contemporary architectural marvels, hippest cafes and eateries, and modish local brands and shops. It makes Kyoto a playful and sublime city, studded with as many bars and hole-in-the-wall fried food shops along the Kamogawa river as it is suffused with ancient ryokan and delicate wagashi shops. Kyoto is in the cross-hairs of Japan's most artful past and its energetic present.

The hotel was in a nice quiet street. The hotel staff were very helpful in all aspects of our stay. Like most Japanese hotels the rooms are quite small and you will need to double check the number of beds when you book for three people. I have a four year old who is quite noisy but the staff were very considerate. The breakfast was very good with a great selection. The breakfast is worth including in your stay.

This was one of the most beautiful rooms we’ve ever stayed in! We got a garden view (not sure if all rooms have this view) and the whole room looked out on their indoor wall garden. Breakfast buffet is most definitely worth it- tons of Japanese and western options. Breakfast staff didn’t speak much English but it was no problem at all and the front desk staff spoke some to help answer any questions. Would 100% stay here again!

We stayed for 1 night at the 9th floor. The room is spacious and luxurious. And the view was amazing you can see the famous kamogawa river and also you can see the mountains. The staff is so accomodating. Well located hotel. Cons: • The hotel is located in a city center so if you are traveling by car you need to plan ahead and look for a coin parking. The price ranges for overnight parking is ¥1,900~¥6,000 (near the hotel). We paid ¥3,800 for the parking. 5 minutes walk from the hotel. • You can hear the street noise. (UNDERSTANDABLE BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION) • There’s a dust in the toilet paper holder and Vanity area. • Me and my daughter had a runny nose hours after cheking-in in our hotel room and we thought the room is just too cold. So we set the air cooler from 20°C to 24°C. Still, i can’t stop from sneezing so my husband thought we catch a cold. Then the second day, while im packing our things i noticed that there’s so much dust on the headboard and it hit me. We don’t have a cold, its just my dust allergy is attacking me.

IVY uses "1K" which was mainstream around 1985-1995. . The rental property specifications reflect that era. "1K", which can be said to be the product of the bubble period, is the first single type in Japan with a private toilet and shower in the private room! There was no washing machine in 1K at this time, and it was common sense to use a coin laundry for washing alone. In the bubble period, land in Tokyo Ginza with an area of one cigarette box was 100 million yen. It was an era when land prices were the highest in the world. Rents for rent are also expensive, and in order to reduce rent, all equipment must be installed efficiently in a small space. It was a dream property for young people at a time when they had to live alone in the city to go to a good university or a good company. Here, unlike accommodation for sightseeing, it is a residence where old Japanese lived normally. It is a valuable space where you can shop, eat, and simulate living in Kyoto. It is a small Japanese size, but please enjoy it as a valuable experience.
The communication was very easy and they gave us all instruction to reach the apartment fast from the station (only 15 minutes). The apartments are clean and have all what you need. We had a very good experience

The check in system is awful! Whoever designed and built it did not think about foreigners using it. It is one of the worst interfaces I have ever been forced to use. After 3 attempts I gave up and checked in at the front desk. This is my second time to stay here. Everything else was fine. But I'm not sure I want to stay here next time I come to Kyoto if I have to deal with this check in system again... I am writing this harsh review in the hope that the hotel will fix its system.

Beautiful 15-story hotel atop Kyoto Station - Broadband connection in all guest and banquet rooms - Easy access to Kansai Airport.
Had a great time during the Christmas holiday Dec. 24-26 mainly because of the choice of hotel. The Hotel Granvia is part of the Kyoto Station complex which is an arquitectural marvel. The amenities were great, pool, hot tub, restaurants and lounges were amazing. Alex, our porter/bellman was very helpful and the concierge service was outstanding. Will be returning soon.

Overall, it's a good hotel. The room is large enough, not like those in Tokyo. Plenty of choices for delicious breakfast. For me, the choices for Japanese style might be a little fewer than I expected but it's fine for me. It is about 30 minutes walk to Yasaka Jinja, which is a little far but consider you are is a quiet area near the subway stations, I believe it is acceptable. It is well-balanced between the distance between Yasaka Jinja and subway stations. There is one thing I don't quite like is the washing machine. There are only two washing machines and they are all located near the public bath. However, the public bath will be cloth for certain times so it means that you cannot wash your cloth at any time you want and you might need to wait as there are only two washing machines. However, it is not a big disadvantage in my view so I will not take off points for my rating. PS. The entrance is very interesting.

While conveniently located just one minute away from a train station, Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Sanjo is hidden away off the main road. The Japanese garden that can be viewed from the lobby is the former site of a water stream garden and has been reproduced with excavated garden stones and boulders. The hotel is perfect for rejuvenating yourself while taking in a sense of history. Sanjo Street is lined with stylish shops and traditional shop/home buildings that are sure to delight visitors of all ages. Stretch out your arms and legs for a leisurely bath while gazing at the water stream garden to ease the fatigue of the day. This is open until 1:00 late night, so you can use it even after a late arrival.
We took the Shinkansen from my daughter's home in Tokyo to explore Kyoto for a day and evening. Our future in-laws wanted us to experience a nice Japanese hotel with an onsen and treated us to a night at Mitsui Garden. This hotel was very convenient to all the sites in Kyoto, but was off the main road and had a very lovely entrance and lobby. We had a little scare upon check in since some of our family traveling from the US had left passports at my daughter's home, but the front desk staff courteously worked with us on a solution: providing a photo copy. This hotel is exceptionally clean and quite beautiful. The rooms were the most spacious of any hotel we stayed in Japan. There was a huge and delicious selection of breakfast options. I would highly recommend staying here for a more traditional and enjoyable hotel experience. I later read online that tattoo covers are acceptable for the onsen, but didn't know this at the time, so those of us with tattoos did not get to enjoy the onsen during our stay, but I would still rate our experience as excellent.
