COVID-19 update: we comply with all safety and hygien regulations, as stipulated by local and nacional authorities. Dona Esther is a small colonial style hotel in the center of Otavalo, just half a block from the central Bolivar park and near the famous Saturday crafts market. With only 13 rooms we can keep it personal, someone of our staff will always be eager to help you. Your room has a view on the green inner court yard, so you can take a seat outside your room and enjoy a glass of beer or wine after a day of activities, which our staff will gladly bring up to your room. Or take a look on the roof top terrace with beautiful views over Otavalo and the surrounding mountains. Our restaurant with a delicious and inventive menu is just downstairs, our reading room has enough books to buy or exchange and the Wifi is free. A choice of breakfasts is included in the room price. Please note that our restaurant is closed only on Monday evenings, we're there for you every other evening of the week and in the weekends all day and evening. Come and have a look, we'll be happy to have you as our guests!
My primary reason for visiting Otavalo was the Saturday morning Poncho Market and Dona Esther is located at a short distance from there. The Dutch couple who own the place are helpful and friendly, as are the staff, although few speak English. Wendy, the owner, had a small electric heater put in my room, which I really appreciated. Noise reverberates around the courtyard and tour groups in particular tend to forget that they aren't the only guests. The valve for the shower is positioned so high that I couldn't reach it; but I was given a mop handle with which to move the lever.

The most wonderful views and setting. Very comfortable rooms, great staff and perfect surrounds. The food was delicious - I recommend the smallest dining room with a view, by candlelight, for dinner. Easily the best place I have ever stayed.

Staying in Hacienda Chorlavi was definitely one of our best stops in Ecuador, from the moment we arrived (with a kind offer from the hacienda to arrange us a transport) to the very last moment. The place is absolutely beautiful, surrounded with nature, a beautiful light and decoration, wisdom in each corner and lots of love and attentive gestures from the staff— adding to the food variety and quality, there are many beautiful thoughts and prompts spread around the place. The rooms are very spacious as well as comfortable and well decorated. Besides all these beautiful elements, the Hacienda offers a lot of different options and opportunities one can entertain himself with. All of this combined, creating a very personal and wholesome environment. It was an amazing opportunity to come and stay, relax, as well as engage with the culture of Ibarra. We can’t wait to be back. Thank you so much! Carmo y Carolina

The Hacienda and it's grounds were gorgeous! We loved both the inside and the outside. Inside the decor was elaborate and comfortable. Outside the gardens were lush. Additionally, the Hacienda staff set us up with a wonderful guide, Christian. Christian took us to the weaving workshop, hiking to the waterfall, and to Cotacachi for shopping and some amazing coffee drinks. All together, it was a fabulous 2 days.

La Mirage is a contemporary resort built on the grounds of a 200-year-old hacienda. Wander through the extraordinary fragrant hummingbird-filled gardens, watching peacocks strolling by. Enjoy delightful regional and international cuisine. Relax in the unique and elegant spa for a variety of 11 different treatments.
I have stayed at hotel La Mirage in Cotacachi just one night and I ha been surprised by the quality, level of details and friendly welcome we have been offered. Welcome fresh fruit juice, flowers, chocolate bonbons, COVID - related safety measures well and thoroughly applied, spacious and luxurious suite, wonderful gardens, with trees, flowers everywhere, peacocks roaming free etc. At dinner, personnel gave us (and also to the other clients) quite a secluded table (inside, it was raining) from which we could enjoy the view of the garden well illuminated as well as the warmth of the chimney inside the restaurant. The service was impeccable, quick, perfect.... Couldn't be better. Price is correct compared with the quality received. A place I do recommend.

Luis is extremely nice and helpful, his wife and him are also cook extremely well (we had a delicious dinner by the fireplace). The house is very cosy and the lake view is great (we had the family room). Luis helped us with the “to do” and taxi booking (yet it might be easier to have a car to reach the property and go around). Overall very nice stay, but too short (one night). One could find the roasters noisy in the morning, but it is part of the charm of a house outside of town!

This small property offers a restaurant where is ideal to visit for breakfast or tea time. They offer a variety of original snacks and vegan alternatives. Price is very reasonable and service is very good. They have coffee plantations and it is a good organic coffee. When visiting with kids, there is plenty space to play and walk around. They have orange trees, mandarin trees around the trails, as well as avocado trees. There is a place where you can spot hummingbirds and other local birds that come to feed. It is a wonderful cozy place to spend with the family with beautiful views of the mountains. It is located 5 minutes away from Ibarra city. For those who want to stay, you can! They offer lovely cottages as well.

The Hostal Riviera-Sucre is located in the beautiful and historic city of Otavalo, Ecuador. Its beautiful Colonial architecture includes two stone water fountains and three courtyards in which to sit, read or write or enjoy the sun. It also features a library with a book exchange as well two inviting fireplaces to warm the spirit. The hostal is the oldest in Otavalo yet offers modern conveniences.
Can't say enough about this wonderful, oasis of peace in calm in bustling Otovalo! Fredy and family are really nice answering all my questions and giving me great advice. The service is top notch clean, quiet rooms with plenty of hot water and a extemely warm, comfortable bed. They have a wonderful garden to enjoy your continental breakfast where you can see hummingbirds and doves flying around.
