This hotel was included as part of a 2 night bus tour round trip from Taipei stopping at Wuling and Chilan that was booked by a family member residing in Taiwan. The hotel looked OK from the outside. But the place was showing its age on the inside with dated furnishings. We had no real issues. They did want groups to keep their luggage out in the open lobby (felt like it was relatively unprotected/unwatched) before checking in or after checking out, which was necessary because of checkin/checkout times and the groups arrival and departure times, as well as being out on tours (even though they had a room for bags if you were travelling independently). They did have a concert in the evening (which was not just traditional Chinese music, but included some more modern international music which we appreciated), followed by star gazing the night we were there. The talk to learn how to use the stargazing tool was completely in Mandarin. The lunch, dinner, and breakfast buffets (included for the tour we took) had many, many choices (including an entire area of vegetarian). Many hot and cold items. For dinner, this included make your own noodle soup and ice cream. Hotel had signs out about being careful during mating season with the wild monkeys, but we didn’t see any during our stay.

We were upgraded in a family room with charming terrace. Chinese style is successful but the hotel could be cleaner. Problems with the noise but helpful staff. Beautiful path around. Li shan is a nice village in the mountain with a stunning view on the green valleys.

Two couples of us stayed one night to enjoy what a hotspring resort has to offer with very spacious both public and private hotspring amenities along with decent meals at a good cost/price index; while a firefly night tour was an unexpected result at this right season!!

its a big hotel that has gotten really tired. The door is thin or it might be because of the big gap at the bottom but you hear everything that is happening outside. Would not recommend for a light sleeper. Breakfast was really disappointing. It is good they offer each guest free entry to the spa once a day. However the area is small and its a bit hotel and sometimes you have kids running around which ruined the experience. Also even though it is outdoors would be better if they change the water more often.....

The hotel is quite dated and could do with an upgrade but the views are great if you get a room with a river view facing the mountains, rivers and bridge. There is a sulphur smell from the water (rotten eggs) but I think that comes from the hot springs. You can make use of the hotel's outdoor bath or book a private inside bath for an additional fee. We did both and the water was warm and very relaxing. The outdoor bath was in the region of 40 - 42 degrees while you can choose to fill your private bath with the mixture of hot spring water and cold water to your liking if you hire a private bath. Although our room did have a hot tub it wasn't used because it was small, designed for one person (not couples) looked old and a little dirty. Breakfast is adequate and plentiful with the staff constantly checking on whether selections needed refilling. There is also an option for an evening meal for a fee of 400 TWD per person during our stay. The food selection is Chinese but there are English labels on the food and there is normally an English speaker on reception. The hotel doesn't have its own car park though so you have yo make use of off street parking.

We’ve stayed at Kukuan Hotel (pronounced “Guguan”) many times mostly because we love their hot springs pool. The staff are very friendly and helpful. If you get a room facing the river the views are great. It’s quite affordable compared to some of the other hotels, generally around $60 US per night depending on time of year and which days (Saturday is a bit higher than other days.)
