When we arrived only 1 member of staff was trying to book people on, serve at the bar AND bring out food. There was a long wait just to check in. The poor girl was run off her feet . It was the same in the morning, just 1 lady trying to check the list for breakfast, take fard payments and answer the phones

I am a regular visitor to the Saracens Head and have rated it above average in prior years but not currently. The standards have dropped and the staff just blame it on Redcat (owners) procedures. The manager resigned and was replaced by an incompetent person who was sacked. Without a manager it has got worse. However Ì must refer to an incident which occurred recently and has been on going for a long time - the front entrance involves a few steps and there is no hand rail - Ì have pointed this out to previous management. A couple of days ago a very good friend of mine tripped on the steps, fell and ended up in A & E to receive 12 stitches in her leg! The problem needs sorting.

We stayed for just one night prior to an early flight. The location is good for the airport, the room was OK for one night although the bathroom could do with a spruce. We ate in the pub, the meal was OK. We were glad that our stay was in winter, given the location of the rooms that sit within the garden - imagine it could get very noisy. We arrived and there was a funeral function going on in the pub and lots of people milling about, a little uncomfortable really. The hand gels were empty. We didn't feel the welcome was warm, there was one member of the team that seemed quite friendly and the rest seemed glum. Our room was clean and had good towels. For the price paid, wasn't expecting much as a budget room price. We stay in many budget rooms and our expectations are usually met. This time, it was not. We would not stay here again.

Comfortable accommodation is provided in ground floor units in a converted barn and comprises two double and two twin rooms, all of which can take an extra bed or cot. All rooms have en-suite facilities. Ample parking. Free wi-fi. Guests enjoy a hearty full English breakfast in the conservatory which has stunning panoramic views of the surrounding Essex Countryside. We also have three self catering apartments, each with a double bedroom with ensuite and a lounge/dining area. On site laundry room.
No breakfast allowed in the room, so I missed out on it, as it was way too early! This was not explained upon arrival. Why have a self catering room, if you can’t eat breakfast in it???? The bed was uncomfortable. I would not recommend a stay here. Also had to vacate the room at 10.30! Which is unusual, as every other place i’ve stayed at, it’s been 11 o clock.

The Stables are a collection of 8 individually styled, en suite bedrooms, situated across the courtyard from The Star Inn restaurant. The Star Inn restaurant, is a beautiful historic building, recently refurbished, but still maintaining some of the original period features. We offer dining in our restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Free Wi-fi is available in all rooms. We have meeting and private function rooms. It is situated 5 minutes from the A120, just 6 miles east of London Stansted Airport; it is also within easy reach of Bishop’s Stortford, Chelmsford and Braintree.
Our mid afternoon arrival started with manoeuvring around the full builders' skip and three vans in the off street parking area. That the restaurant and all other facilities were closed for renovation had not been mentioned by the hotel or on any website communication. We found it strange that the main entrance door to the rooms was open, but soon established that this was because the lock did not work correctly. We tried to secure it, from inside and out, with and without the key. The door would not lock. The door to our room was little better, being improperly located in the frame, it rattled continually, keeping us awake. We chose to leave our luggage in the car overnight as we thought it safer. The room was well decorated but the recent refurbishment finishing is marginal. It all looks good, but the reality soon grips. We could not get warm in the room, even after adjusting the heating. The bed was not the sanctuary we had hoped for, as the thin blanket and sheet were not sufficient. The white coverlet, found screwed up in the wardrobe, was best described as soiled. I chose not to upload the pics. The general housekeeping was ok but needs further attention. Breakfast of a long life croissant and fruit juice carton in a brown paper bag is a waste of time and energy. I emailed my observations to the hotel directly following our stay. Three days later, no reply and an extremely unhelpful telephone call to the property. Abdication of responsibility is an extremely unpleasant trait.

Booked it for a week. It was advertised for £140 (room) a week on Spareroom. The Lady called Sonila Hussain took the deposit of £50 (refundable) and a week's rent of £180 from me even though the room was advertised for £140 a week. The deposit was supposed to be returned after I left the property. I checked out after 3 nights. I requested a deposit back from her on numerous occasions. She never returned the deposit. She ignored my messages for requesting a deposit back. Very dishonest lady. A disgraceful waste of my time and money. I am not happy about this at all. Don't waste your time and money with this room/hotel, just book Travelodge, DaysInn or PremierInn.
