I recently had to stay for a couple of nights. There is not much choice in Gladbeck, the only slightly upmarket hotel is on the edge of town, no good without a car. The Alte Post is is a fairly basic place, the rooms are quite simple. But it is perfectly adequate, in a very central location and within easy walking distance of the station. After checking in in the hotel's restaurant and receiving a warm welcome, I was given directions on how to get to my room on an upper floor. The building itself is shared with a couple of other businesses but it is very secure. My single room was fairly small and practical rather than stylish or pretty. The bed was a typical German single bed. quite narrow. There was a large wardrobe and a small table with the TV on it (German channels only), a simple chair, a big mirror, a fitted carpets. They did provide a bottle of mineral water, but there was no minifridge or minibar and no safe. A hair dryer was available from reception on request. You needed to borrow a booster from reception to get Wifi in your room, you had to pay a refundable EUR20 deposit for the device. It was chilly at night, but I turned on the radiator and it worked well. The bathroom was spacious enough, clinical rather than inviting, but with a good shower and plenty of room for your toiletries although the towels were very thin and worn and should be replaced. The breakfast buffet was served in the ground floor restaurant, a typical German affair: 2 types of juice, 3 types of cereal, a nice choice of rolls, but surprisingly boring bread, some cold cuts and a few cheeses, yoghurt, tomatoes and cucumber, boiled eggs. There were scrambled eggs if you wanted something warm. But there were no croissants or similar breakfast items, and no fresh fruit. This buffet seemed to be much appreciated by the locals who were meeting here for breakfast in astonishingly large numbers. The hotel and restaurant is family owned and run, and they are all extremely friendly and helpful. Should I need to overnight again, I would certainly stay again as despite its limitations it seems to be the best option in the town centre.

Er was helaas alleen nog een kamer met 2 losse bedden beschikbaar. De kamer was prima in orde. Prettige bedden, ruime douche. Aanrader.

What a wonderful B&B. Stayed here on our way to France. The food is worth a stop regardless. Amazing food large portions. Great room, nice bed and pillow, quiet and clean. Breafast is very good and staff is super friendly. No problem to get an extra coffee to go to support our long drive.
