Reviewed By nickdH8831ULStayed here for 2 nights mid-Sept '21 after hearing excellent reviews. Very relaxing atmosphere with charming and competent staff. The guests present during my short stay were an eclectic mixture of hikers, historians and mature motorcyclists, without any shortage of compatibility and bonhomie... If ever a hotel deserved to survive the Covid shock it's this one. Oh, and a nice garage for my little Honda too!

The Gasthof zum Bären enjoys abeautiful location in the climatic health resort of Gernrode, on the northern outskirts of the Lower Harz region.It offers ideal lodgings for keen hikers, nature lovers and steam train enthusiasts. A 5-minute walk takes you to the world famous Stiftskirche collegiate church, and in 3 minutes you can reach Gernrode's large cuckoo clock. The hotel offers a cosy restaurant with summer terrace, the restaurant "Bärenbaude", and 27 guest rooms. A spa and adventure playground are right on your doorstep.
Basic but welcoming
Reviewed By JBGateladI stayed here in when it was a mix of snow, rain, fog and very cold! It was a one night stay whilst travelling on the Steam narrow gauge line which runs from Quedlinburg to the main HSB network at Eisfelder Talmühle. The room was pretty basic but everything worked and it was clean and warm enough. The staff were friendly, draft beer was limited but a few bottled varieties were available. Breakfast was good and plentiful. My only criticism was the meal at night which was not very appetising. Perhaps I was unfortunate with what I had ordered but I think I experienced what I might have been a typical basic meal from pre-Berlin wall days! There was no gap between courses (I really don't like that!) and the whole thing was very bland (but filling!) My overall impression was that they were running along on economy tariff during the winter months. I think they possibly have the monopoly for accommodation at this time of year so perhaps making a bit more effort with the food doesn't occur to them.
