Beautiful luxury villa amidst the mountain! We traveled with kids and the staff were super accommodated all our request and even went out of their way to organize my son's birthday party there. Food was great and the rooms were very clean and the staff were excellent. Would highly recommend this place for families or a group of friends looking to travel.

Boutique hotel in Kandy district, Sri Lanka. Located 12Km from Kandy on the main Kandy to Nuwara Eliya Road. It has five double / triple rooms, all en suite. Hotel rooms have WiFi, air conditioning, king-sized four-poster beds, luxury rain-head showers and balconies. Hotel has restaurant, terrace and gardens. Concierge can organise train station pick-ups, local excursions and onward travel. Drivers' accommodation available on request.
We stayed 2 nights and it was a delight. The room was clean, large and comfortable. The food was delicious so we ended up having all our meals at the hotel itself. Some of the ingredients are grown on the property itself. The staff were friendly and very helpful. We were well looked after. The manager was well acquainted with the interesting places nearby and also arranged transport for us. Overall, we had one of the best Sri Lankan hotel experiences.

'A place close to nature' is what we aim to offer our guests at Kirinda Walauwa. Our 200 year old ancestral family home is situated 16 km from the Sri Lankan hill capital, in the town of Gampola on a 12 acre estate where we grow and cultivate most of what we eat. This in turn lies in a picturesque valley surrounded by mountains and lush green paddy (rice) fields. We open our doors to a few visitors to experience the rich history, culture, local customs and the peaceful, relaxing ambiance. In turn, they open their hearts and minds, and leave with lasting memories.
We stayed at Karinda Walauwa for 3 nights whilst visiting Kandy and the tea plantations. It was a privilege to have the experience of authentic Sri Lanka. Excellent food, hospitality and care. We can highly recommend this homestay, in this modern world it is a hidden gem.

The villa, a family owned private property only located 120km from Colombo International Airport, allows guests to feel at home and experience the peace and quiet that is unique to Aqua Dunhinda. We are happy to get you in sync with nature and your 5 senses. The estate is sprawled over 4000 square feet of land, with 3 large guestrooms, en-suite bathrooms with rain spa showers, a spacious living room, an elegant 8-seater dining area, an observation deck, and an all rounded verandah. All guestrooms have immediate access to a well-maintained tea garden terrace, with a promise of the panoramic view of the river and mesmerizing sounds of the river flowing around the villa. Completely isolated except for exotic birds, buffalos, porcupines and wild boars, Aqua Dunhinda is built on the philosophy of evoking our 5 senses enhanced by the climate, landscape and culture. It is truly a therapeutic rejuvenating experience. This special healing experience is situated along the banks of the mighty Mahaweli River and she overlooks the Kotmale Forest (more than 1000 acres of conservation forest). The Mahaweli River is Sri Lanka´s longest river, passing through our land over a large rock canapé, offering a breathtaking view of the numerous twists and turns of the continuous up-stream flow. This unique location has inspired a number of legends amongst the villagers, dating back to the days of King Sri Wikrama Rajasinghe (1780 – 1832) and romanticized through the name, "Dunhinda" (Misty River). Aqua Dunhinda is situated near various places of interests, like the UNESCO world heritage site - The Sacred City of Kandy (15 km), the tea capital of the world – Nuwara Eliya (50 km), The Pinnawala Elephant Sanctuary (30 km), and many other attractions within her vicinity.
The location was really charm and quiet, however the person who was in charge of the villa didn't provide us with proper information and wanted us to bring all the dry rations in order to prepare food. (from sugar, milk, pepper salt) etc. we had to carry everything with us which was a huge hazel. later we did get to know that they had an Al la carte menu, had they informed us about this prior to our arrival we wouldn't go through the trouble of carrying them all the way to Gampola from Colombo. We observed that they were trying to run the operation with very few staff and we had to ask for certain room amenities which are normally provided at any villa/hotel free of charge. apart from the above mentioned everything else was really good especially the location wise. My suggestion is they really need to improve a lot in their service standards . Personally i believe the location and the staff has a lot of potential to make everything perfect for the guests.

The original owner of this manor house was Mr.T.B. Panabokke. This stately home was built in the 19th century and is nearing 200 years and is nestled in the central highlands. The ownership has passed down to the 4th generation and is now owned by Mrs. Padmini Panabokke Molagoda. It is on a 100 acre plantation of tea, coconut and spice.
I will start by saying that this old colonial house has a lot of potential and that the ONLY person working in this hotel (aside the person in the kitchen) has done everything he could to make up for the old and dirty premises. He is a good man and this is not about him but rather the owner. Having a authentic old hotel does not mean you have to stop investing and cleaning! No manager or owner we could talk to, he does not live there of course, who would want to! I cannot believe the other comments, looks like we were not in the same hotel. I work in hospitality management and have had my share of travel so I know not to expect modern service and amenities from such places but there are some basics you cannot compromise on. Rooms: When I first stepped in the room, I thought it was a joke, some kind of old boarding school. Beds are small, can't fit in it, mattress are inexistant so you basically sleep on wood, all furnitures are so outdated, you can barely use them. All windows have an open part so mosquitos etc.. can feel welcome in your room. dusty plastic cover above the double bed (why??) old items left by previous guests so I guess cleaning was also stopped in the colonial era. As you can see from my pictures, the sheets had stains, and Oh my god the pillows!!! Brown with authentic colonial sweat I presume? Disgusting!! I don't know how people can find this to be a peaceful retreat, We could not sleep as dogs where barking constantly during the night cars would come and go with loud music, monks singing in speakers at 5/6 AM. Of course no AC and no possibility to close the windows completely so you either sweat or shiver. Moving on to the bathroom, very outdated as well. You can have an old hotel with a authentic feeling but still change the shower curtain which was disgusting, a plastic carpet in the bathtub also dirty, toilet was leaking so you wake up with a flooded bathrooms in both rooms. Common areas: Old coca cola bottles in the furnitures, a chair that breaks when you sit on it (70kg so not weight induced ;-) etc... the same feeling that you get in the rooms. Looks like the place is lost in time. Only one very old cathodic TV in the common area. Food: Although he did try his best, dhal was objectively tasteless, chicken curry to salty and tasted like fish as they probably mixed it up while preparing with some fried fish balls. We ended up asking for bread and jam :-D Breakfast was good. Omelette, jam and bread. Coffee is not good but this is generally the case in Sir Lanka, although the country used to be 3rd biggest exporter in the world a long time ago, around the time the owner stopped investing I guess. Compared to the other hotels we visited during our 2 week trips, this was by far the worst and horribly expensive! You will find far better clean hotels closer to Kandy with better service, food and cheaper as well!
