Went in for a drink during Punk on the Peninsula and was told by the 'delightful' Norman to order inside at the bar which we wandered in to do. When reaching said bar we were told by another 'delightful' staff member we were to "wait til I serve this woman!!!!!" Fair enough. The barmaid then asked for our table number to which we replied "oh, do we need a table number if we just want a drink? Can we just stand?" At which point the 'lovely' Norman reappeared and sarcastically commented under his breath "Yeah well I did say this but apparently no one listened.........." clearly meaning we had taken no notice of his strict instructions. I have never in my life encountered such rudeness from staff members and working in this line of business myself I know exactly how you are meant to behave when facing the public. There was no need for the attitude from either of these staff members and we won't be returning to this establishment, nor will we be recommending the place to anyone else. Get your staff trained up properly!

Selborne Hotel - Dunoon [3 Alpha & AA 3-Star]. Superbly situated looking south across the Clyde with pleasant lawns reaching down to the promenade and water's edge. All the public rooms and many of the bedrooms offer uninterrupted views of the river which is a constant source of interest. Ground floor areas include a TV lounge, bar lounge with dance floor, quiet lounge and games room. 98 bedrooms with central heating and private bath or shower and WC. All rooms have tea/coffee making facilities, hair dryer and TV with radio channels. Entertainment is provided most evenings in the bar lounge. The lift serves almost all rooms. Car parking available.
This hotel is better than some of the reviews suggest. It’s location is spectacular which is a great starting point. The staff are extremely accommodating and, considering they primarily cater for coach parties, the food is excellent. I have read that there isn’t a great deal of choice with food but there are 4 choices for every course which should satisfy most tastes. I rarely write reviews while I am still staying somewhere but feel like this hotel is getting an unfair press. My room is extremely hot which is the only negative but I’ll cope with that. Lovely place, lovely hotel and I will be back.

My partner and I arrived yesterday for one night (child free) we arrived a bit early so parked the car and walked into town, this took around 10 mins, taking in the lovely views along the way. The lady at reception was lovely and welcoming and advised us to choose breakfast options for the morning, one of the best breakfasts we have had! The room was spacious and the bed extremely comfortable! It’s such a shame that the function room isn’t in use as we think it would be fab! Small intimate wedding, christenings etc We will return soon!

Royal Marine, Dunoon. Probably the worst place I've been to, the staff were sour and miserable, totally unwelcoming and downright rude apart from the older gentleman. One of the staff members was totally drunk and wasn't capable of serving. The hotel was very shabby and dated, the toilets were disgusting, dirty, had to ask for loo roll, one cubicle was out of order, one had no light so was dark when in it, one had no lock on it, the toilets didn't flush properly. Considering we had just come through covid they left 2 manky towels to dry your hands which were flung on the sinks, really unhygienic, everyone complained about the toilets, basically a really dirty grubby uncared for place. The manager was the most aggressive ignorant man I've ever met. I was told by many people he was a P***K which was appropriate as his name is Rick, was also told he didn't know how to run it. There are loads of other places to visit in Dunoon which don't have to very hard to beat this place.

From the warm, friendly welcome to the fabulous breakfast, we couldn’t have enjoyed our stay any more. The room was modern and airy with a wonderfully comfortable bed, beautiful en-suite, and generous supply of drinks and snacks. The view over Holy Loch was very special.

Helen was great and all very good apart from dog policy. Says it's dog friendly but when we tried to leave our dog in the room, Nigel went full Basil Fawlty and we ended up cancelling restaurant. Ridiculously aggressive. Nothing in dog policy about this so was completely out of order. Fortunately, he was kept hidden away subsequently or we'd have left.
