Lovely big room with a comfortable bed, a clean bathroom and a separate toilet. Slept very well! The rain shower was nice, but the temperature of the water fluctuated a little bit. The hotel has a good restaurant and a cozy bar. We ate several times in the hotel and the quality of the food was very good. Loved the fact that they have a policy to reduce food waste by asking you if you really want the complementary salad and fries. The staff was mostly friendly, although the waitress in the bar on our first evening clearly had on off-day. Staff at the reception was always friendly and professional. The breakfast is really good, with lots of different options to choose from. In the weekend, you can even enjoy a glass of bubbles! The service includes omelets made to order. Loved the scrambled eggs and bacon also. Only complaint: one of the days they ran out of scrambled eggs at about 9.10h and none of the staff refilled them. The location of the hotel is ideal if you arrive by car and want to use your car for sightseeing in the vicinity. The hotel has a huge parking lot (where you can recharge your electric car) and is next to a park and ride with lots of buses you can take if you want to visit Groningen. You can also rent electric bikes in the hotel to discover the beautiful nature of Groningen by bike.

‘Abdij de Westerburcht’ is a pure and atmospheric hotel and restaurant with delicious meals. Come relax and enjoy our hospitality in Westerbork. There is free parking, a delicious breakfast buffet and friendly staff. All rooms are equiped with air conditioning/heating system, coffee and tea facilities and an empty fridge. It also has a Smart TV with Netflix app. The hotel is centrally located in Drenthe on a short distance from Assen, Hoogeveen and Emmen. A beautiful snowy landscape in the winter, surrounded by charming forests. It creates a magical look when the first snowflakes hit the ground. It is the ideal place for cycling and walking in summer time. ‘Abdij de Westerburcht’ is inspired on the appearance of ‘Abdij de Koningshoeven’ in Berkel-Enschot, where the only Trappist beer in the Netherlands is brewed under the supervision of monks. You can also find these beers in our restaurant in the form of draft beer or by bottle.
We were welcomed by very friendly receptionist staff who advised us on local sights during our stay. We stayed in the library room, which has a mini fridge and a bathroom with a shower and a jacuzzi bath. The ambiance in the room was great. Due to covid, dinner and breakfast were served in our room (terrace was also an option). Both dinner and breakfast were very nice. The hotel is situated in a calm, quaint little village. Basic amenities like a supermarket and several restaurants are within a minute's walk. The surrounding area is a beautiful rural area, with several forested areas within driving distance.

Rooms are extremely noise, group of young people were drunk and on drugs, but hotel was not aware of the nuisance. Rooms were ok. Breakfast was good. People were friendly but did not get the feeling they really cared about our compliants. Not fare from the zoo, but surroundings are uninteressing

We had a lovely stay in hotel Dwingeloo, especially because of the gourmet dinner and the extensive breakfast, all for very reasonable prices. But also because we loved biking and hiking the nature areas close to the hotel. Bike rental is next to the hotel, so that was a plus.

Had a stop at Van der Valk Spier-Dwingelo. Just wanted a not-too-big bite, having had a late lunch. At 20 p.m. the waitress even showed us the lunch menu! Now, that's great! We both a a small dish, but nevertheless more than we could handle and of great taste. The salmon was perfect and the clubsandwhich also plenty and very good. Very friendly staff.

When we arrived we were directed to a room that was 16 degrees. We put the heating on and left. What we didn't know was that when you leave, the heating turns off (radiators. For aircon I could understand but not wall radiators.) We told reception and changed rooms to a marginally better one, although this one did not get above around 20 degrees. What we also didn't know is that you proactively have to press a certain button on the aircon for it NOT to pump out cold air when you are in-situ. We called reception and asked why our aircon was pumping out cold air and she said in an accusatory tone: 'You must have pressed the wrong button" (note to staff - never blame the customer. Customer is paying you!) She sent up an engineer but he was already angry from the start (again, customer is paying you!) An argument ensued between my partner and the engineer and at one point I thought it might turn into a physical fight.) He said that this obscure piece of knowledge about pressing a button to avoid cold air was in the room description and proceeded to direct us to a distant page in the room manual. It was an unpleasant interaction and the engineer was hostile, blaming us and not apologising. Again, Fletcher chain, what ARE you teaching your staff with regards to customer service?! It was very unsatisfactory and we were cold the whole time. Breakfast was a bit of a fiasco. Zero social distancing, no Covid measures, no sanitisation etc. You have to do everything yourself, get drinks. Everything. All the wellness facilities were closed when we were there. Location is in the middle of nowhere. Carpets vile and covered in stains. Rooms in desperate need of renovation. Felt really icky in there. Avoid the Fletcher brand - they have no sense of customer service. Customer is not only not king, but is an annoyance.

Stayed here twice and both times were good. During our last visit we experienced a lot of noise coming from the street at night. People screaming, fireworks going off (it was right before new years) which made it hard to get some proper sleep. We had a room facing the square. The rooms are good, basic with nice comfortable beds and everything is clean. Can also recommend the restaurant. The breakfast is a bit boring since they serve you at the table and it's the same everyday.

Breakfast buffet was good. Everything is there, including croissants, yoghurt, scrambled eggs and bacon. Rooms are fine and spacious. We stayed on the ground floor and had a seat by the front door (unfortunately we didn't use it because of the weather). Beds are good; therefore we slept well. Our room had a bath, but we didn't use it. The shower was fine. The extras in the room made the stay extra pleasant: ability to make coffee and tea. Every day the coffee and tea was replenished and there were clean cups. And the fridge in the room was a outcome to be able to keep some food cool! Some improvement tips for the hotel: Here and there we found a hair in the bathroom that could not be ours (...). And a little table or something to put the toilet bags on would have been handy. Now they we had to place them on the floor. WiFi was regularly dropped. Therefore we sometimes had no connection at all with the 'outside world'; also because the region is poorly covered with 4G due to the nearby radio observatory of Westerbork, which need to be free of any radio waves.
