Devon Cottages - The Ultimate in Relaxing Breaks From the wilds of Dartmoor to the wooded hillsides of the Lyn Valley, Devon is undoubtedly one of England's most beautiful counties. Its overwhelmingly rural landscape means that catered accommodation is restricted to over-subscribed Bed and Breakfasts and hotels which are mostly concentrated in towns like Exeter and Barnstaple. Devon is a great location for a family holiday in the great outdoors, with everything from beach resorts at Ilfracombe to rambling in the hills of Exmoor and tors of Dartmoor. It is a large county, but whether you want to follow the Tarka Trail, or walk down the Doone Valley, you can be sure there will be cottages open for holiday rentals nearby. Devon's Cottages, All Mod Cons Most of Devon's holiday rental cottages started as farm buildings of some sort, and planning restrictions mean that many of them retain their rural charm on the outside. However, the cottages are generally renovated to 21st Century standards inside, with double glazing, TV, washing machines and fully-equipped kitchens. Families are well catered for in the higher end properties with games rooms, sometimes including full-size pool tables and large gardens for children to explore. Despite the unpredictability of Devon's weather even during the summer months, the comfort of these properties gives great peace of mind. Moreover, a week's holiday rental of a cottage in Devon can cost as little as £300 - £400. During the peak season you can spend as much as £900 a month for one of the larger or more luxurious cottages, which still works out to be cheaper than a lot of hotels, especially if you have to book several rooms to accommodate a family of four or five. Town Mouse or Country Mouse To get the best of Devon's startling countryside and its friendly communities, renting a holiday cottage near Lynton and Lynmouth can be a good start. It is a useful base from which to explore North Devon, and is within walking distance of several beauty spots, such as Watersmeet (complete with a small but impressive waterfall) and the Valley of the Rocks. Separated by a steep cliff, you can travel up a funicular railway from coastal Lynmouth to clifftop Lynton, with plenty of stunning walks, shopping opportunities and several beaches and boat trips to nearby coastal attractions. The twin villages also boast a concentration of well-equipped holiday cottages, from modest fisherman's cottages on the path to Watersmeet to grander hillside houses on the way to the Valley of the Rocks. Whatever your budget, Lynton and Lynmouth can provide some tempting accommodation options for your first Devon holiday.

Cosy lounges with huge log fires and beautiful sweeping lawns leading down to the West Dart River. Award winning AA Rosette restaurant filled with wonderful character and ambiance. First of all, only had Sunday menu, which was very disappointing, did ask for another menu but was told that was the only one. Unlike when we went the first time a year previously. This should have been my birthday treat Would like to say menu items uninspiring, and unimaginative, middle of range in respect of price. My family mostly enjoyed food, but then they just don't write reviews, unlike myself. Mine was below the standard to some of the other places I have eaten. Jus,(gravy) was very sweet but overall portion on main course was good. Starters reminded me of the sixties and pudding school. For food I give 7/10 due to no variety and other faux Pas. If I would go again I'm not sure! Staff I must say we're very busy and did a excellent job,but a bit rushed off feet to really pay attention to customers,so for them I give ten out of ten.

Overlooking the beautiful English Riviera, our hotel is steps from Torquay Marina. We are just off A379 along The Terrace Road, less than a mile from Torquay Beach and Princess Pier. Living Coasts Zoo, the city center, and Princess Theatre are all within a mile. WiFi and hot breakfast are included with your stay.
We had a king sized room fitted out for disabled people - my wife & i found it very helpful. Storage space for clothes was a bit sparse but very comfortable otherwise. We were very impressed with the courtesy of all staff members. Parking a problem - Even with my blue badge on display I was fined £70 for parking 'across the road' as indicated by the staff. I understand new parking facilities are being built? Definitely would use this hotel again. Alice on reception is taking this up with the authorities - we have not heard back since...?

Desirably located near the white shoreline and crystal-clear waters of South Sands Beach, one of the most unspoilt beaches in South Devon, every element of this new waterfront hotel and resort is inspired by its surroundings – with many of the hotel’s 50 bedrooms and suites boasting superb sea views and balconies. Providing a relaxed beachside feel, the light airy rooms and suites are decorated with different shades of green, blue and mustard yellow colours to reflect the golden sands and turquoise blue of the ocean - with all the little thoughtful touches you would expect from a Harbour Hotel including 400 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets, complimentary gin sets from the Salcombe Gin Distillery, and organic Bramley toiletries. Some of the suites feature interconnecting family room options allowing parents to keep an eye on their children while enjoying a little time to themselves. There’s also a beachfront restaurant with a seafood-inspired menu showcasing the best flavours of the region and sweeping sea vistas, a wrap-around terrace and a chilled-out beach bar - Perfect for sandy toes after a day at the beach. Take advantage of the resort’s complimentary all-day shuttle service into town, for a gentle stroll through the boutique-filled streets of Salcombe and its picturesque harbour. For those looking to explore the estuary, the South Sands Ferry runs daily and allows guests to enjoy a picturesque trip to Whitestrand in the centre of Salcombe. For hikers, a sublime stretch of coastline begins at the front door, and the sheltered bay allows for year-round dips.
What a find! We’re regular visitors of Salcombe Harbour, but this beats it. My wife was undergoing treatment and the staff, from booking through to departure, couldn’t have done enough for us. Some very minor issues, to be expected from such a new hotel were dealt with quickly and with grace. Restaurant was a great experience, faultless. First class team, hotel and overall experience. Looking forward to seeing you at the end of the month. Thank you.

Welcoming lounges packed with antiques, and a bustling bar popular with locals and residents alike. Full Devon breakfast to set you up for the day. Local, seasonal produce is at the heart of all the menus at The Bedford. The Bedford Hotel is an ideal base for exploring the wild majesty of Dartmoor National Park, or the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The Bedford is beautifully British. This old building [ but with modern services] is a bit like staying in a manner house. Great restaurant. You have to have a drink or tea out in the walled garden, its quiet , green, peaceful and even with a short stay is worth relaxing and enjoying. Good parking if your driving and beside the historical canal with its lovely walks. Also only a minute or two to the shopping district.

Thanks to its seafront setting, our Premier Inn Torquay hotel is the perfect spot for scenic short breaks in Devon. As well as being right on the coastline, you'll find plenty of exciting things to do nearby, from visiting the animals at Paignton Zoo, to exploring the underground caves at Kents Cavern. Plus, couples and families alike will love the rides and amusements on Paignton Pier. There's two parts to the Premier Inn Torquay hotel - the historic building, and the modern annexe, which are connected to each other by a short, covered walkway. Whichever section you're staying in, though, you can look forward to delicious meals in our tasty Beefeater restaurant, before relaxing in an extra-comfy bed.
A pretty awful experience. The whole place has gone to seed. Despite knowing that rooms are not cleaned daily we did not expect spilled food in corridors to remain there the 5 days of our stay. Breakfast room quite disgusting, tables cleared of food debris & left standing by tills. Not good.
