We had a lovely stay at The Birch Tree. Staff and local’s were very friendly Our room was clean and spacious with everything we needed for an overnight stay. Food was lovely from the bar and equally as good at breakfast. Nice beer garden to the rear by the river. Dog friendly

My husband and I returned to the Maxwell Arms, where we had had a wonderful Sunday lunch with our friends. We were a little apprehensive that’s it wouldn’t be as good a we remembered, but we shouldn’t have worried, it was brilliant. The food was as good as the first time, the lady who served us was efficient and friendly and the value was excellent. Highly recommended

Springfield is a fully modernised and extended country cottage set in mainly open countryside and located about half a mile (1km) outside the village of Colvend. It is ideally located for touring/sightseeing this beautiful coastal area. We are about a mile from the sea at either Sandyhills or Rockcliffe. The immediate area is great for walking, cycling, mountain biking, golfing with the historic towns of Kirkcudbright and Castle Douglas only a short drive away.
We stayed for four nights, spotlessly clean, every possible facility available, really appreciated having an ironing board and iron. Excellent, plentiful breakfast with lots of choice. Very pleasant, accommodating hosts who have thought of everything and more that you will ever need to make your stay as good as it could be. Value for money cannot be beaten. Highly recommended we will be back.

We stayed in Dalbeattie for a night on the way home from Arran. The guest house is in a very quiet part of Dalbeattie but also only a short walk to the centre. The house is lovely, as is Barbara, your host. She’s very knowledgeable about the area and very friendly and easy to talk to. Our room was lovely and overlooked the pretty garden. Unfortunately we didn’t spot any Red Squirrels but as we had seen them on Arran we weren’t too disappointed. All of the facilities were very good and shower gel and everything you would expect is provided including tea making facilities. Barbara also provides fresh milk too. A good WiFi connection is also available. Breakfast was enormous and all good quality. Neither of us eat meat, so we had a cooked veggie breakfast (poached eggs, tattie scones, beans, mushrooms etc). Loads of toast, cereal, fresh grapefruit, yoghurt etc. We didn’t eat until about 2:30 in the afternoon after that! A really nice B&B that is more like staying as a guest in someone’s home. Which of course it is for Barbara. Many thanks and when we are up that way again we will book here.

Trewan is a 300 year old traditional granite cottage on the edge of Dalbeattie Forest, with immediate access to the forest and the 7 Stanes Mountain Biking Trails. The cottage has 3 bedrooms, a triple with en-suite shower room, a twin and a double, a large family bathroom. You will also find a modern kitchen and comfortable lounge area all for your private use. The lounge area has plenty of seating and a dining table perfect for those who are exhausted after an energetic days cycling or walking in Dalbeattie Forest or exploring the main attractions of Dumfries and Galloway. There is a separate entrance from the garden to the guest accommodation, especially convenient for dog owners and we are happy for the large garden to be used and enjoyed as you wish. This includes a variety of seating and tables, perfect for a garden picnic. You will find a large double garage providing secure storage for bikes and apparatus along with plenty of room for those essential repairs and upgrades. The car park has space for 12 cars so touring caravans are easily accommodated if necessary. Trewan is ideally situated for all the town amenities. It is a 5 minute walk to the shops and restaurants and a variety of friendly village pubs in historic Dalbeattie town. It is a 10 minute drive to the lovely beach of Sandyhills, the sailing facilities of Kippford or the seaside cove of Rockcliffe on traffic free roads. Not to mention local horse riding stables and much much more.
Booked to stay here for 3 nights - this had been available for the week prior to booking. Received a message a few hrs before check in to say they had double booked and I couldn’t stay there. No alternative dates were offered / discount offered for further stay - literally didn’t give a toss that someone was leaving for 3 day break and they were cancelling! They wished me good luck finding an alternative - in Aug a few hrs before check in with a dog ??? So I didn’t get to stay here and although the accommodation may have been nice the hosts attitude was awful... so if you want to book a holiday and have if cancelled hours before book here
