Located just one block from the historic public square of Dahlonega, The Smith House sits as one of Georgia's lanmark Inns; Known for serving true Southern family style meals and elegantly appointed hotel rooms. The city of Dahlonega claims to have the first major U.S. Gold Rush. The Smith House actually sits on one of the richest veins of gold discovered in the city. Today, you can view the original mine shaft discovered on the property in 1898. The property is within walking distance to all of the shopping, dining and theater venues offered in Dahlonega. The campus of North Georgia College & State University is also a short walk from the property. Come for a weekend or a week, you'll be glad you "Rediscovered The Tradition" at The Smith House.
My daughter and I stayed here while visiting the wineries here in town. This place is very nice. Check in was easy and very pleasant. He also gave us a great recommendation for taxi. The room was done very nice and it looked and felt clean. There were plenty of towels in the bathroom, good stock of coffee and water and the bed was very comfortable. The walls are a little thin. It was easy to hear people outside. We really enjoyed our stay here.

I stayed at the Forest Hills Resort recently, and fell prey to the images that appeared on the website. The only thing updated on the entire property were the bedspreads and some inexpensive banal art above the beds. After checking in I wanted a bite to eat and wandered to the restaurant, it looked fairly empty, not a good sign, but I was hungry. I waited about ten minutes at a table and was not greeted, so I left. I then went to my room, at Black Bear lodge, where the door knob was loose (not good for a female single traveler), opened the door and to my dismay the room was dingy, the window blinds were covered in dust and the windows were dirty, the carpet stale. Alas, I thought I'd relax by the pool, but the pool furniture was grimy and hadn't been wiped down in probably years...no exaggeration, so I left that area. I did find respite at a small patio area outside one of the lodge areas and read a book. In the evening I wanted to relax on the balcony, but that furniture too, was dirty and covered in dust and cob webs. So, I went back to the patio area, where a party of about 20 people had loud music blaring for hours. Not my idea of a relaxing vacation. All in all a waste of money (so many better accommodations in the area) and a huge disappointment.

We are located less than 1 mile from UNG and downtown Dahlonega. We have spectacular mountain views from our rooms-see our video clip here in tripadvisor, along with free continental breakfast, wi fi and seasonal outdoor pool
The bed was so hard and squeaked when you rolled over, the pillows were great. The night manager was so rude, threatened to call the cops on a 14yr old boy bc he was going to swim with us before our next ball game, but then 7 kids got out of the pool and went back to the hotel next door

A group of old Army Rangers stayed there for three nights, and it was terrific. Rooms were clean and quiet, although we were only there to sleep. The lack of meeting space was the only draw back. Staff was friendly and easy and it was a most pleasant stay.

Recently stayed a few days at this hotel. Great location right in the middle of town...so easy to walk to everything around the town square. You walk out the front door and you are a few steps from it all. The hotel is new and very clean. It has a parking garage attached just for guests so that makes it even more convenient. Our check in and check out was super fast. The clerks were friendly and helpful. They offer a free breakfast which consisted of bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits, pastries, bagels, oatmeal, grits, yogurt, juice, milk, chocolate milk and coffee. The room was very nice, bed was comfortable, bathroom was nice with large walk-in shower with full size shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel... a large flat screen TV. Our room was on third floor facing the street so was easy to people watch...wasn't noisy though. Would definitely stay here again.

This was the highest ranked place I have ever stayed at, and for good reasons, it’s super clean , the tiny home ( shipping containers) we stayed in were amazing! The staff was great and the facilities are close to everything but still have beautiful views! I would highly recommend this place to couples or adult groups for a weekend get away!

Great location on the square. Old hotel but quaint and charming. The room was clean and decorated nicely. The night we were there was very quiet. I would recommend to a friend. The bourbon street grill was good also.
