Had lunch here as we have always enjoyed it. We waited 45 mins for food which came up lukewarm. Had steak and ale pie with no steak to be seen awful. The glass with blackcurrant in it had dirty white marks on the outside. Plenty of other tables seemed to enjoy themselves. So the hotel will not care that we will not go back

I have stayed in a lot of Travelodges but this was definitely one of the best. The opening experience is a bit strange as it's above takeaways and you have to go up in a lift to get to reception, but don't let that put you off. Upon arriving we were greeted by an incredibly helpful and friendly lady who definitely went beyond what you'd expect. Once in the room, I booked a family suite, it was very large with a big double, a fold out single, which actually had a proper mattress on it, and was spotlessly clean. We had a big and very modern TV, loads of tea and coffee, plenty of towels, USB sockets next to the beds as well as plug sockets and large window that could be opened. The only think missing was extra pillows, but we went and asked for those and had them within the hour. The WiFi worked perfectly and it was only a 5 minute walk from the sea front. We all slept really well and found the shower to be amazing, so many hotels have bad water pressure but complete opposite here! We will definitely stay here again, couldn't ask for more from a budget priced hotel.

Standard premier Inn, room was very clean and adequate except coffee machine was broken and leaked water all over desk when I informed staff they knew about it but obviously haven't fixed problem. Staff very nice, restaurant unfortunately only had a very limited choice of three things but breakfast was great. Overall would stay here again

A 38 rooms hotel by Marston's Inn's situated 1.5 miles from Clacton SeaFront. The hotel sits next to a 180 seater Family Carvery Pub open 7 days a week.
Firstly I have emailed Marston Inn to give them an opportunity to respond to my compliant but they haven't bothered! Well we stayed at smugglers cove in Clacton on sea from Friday 6th May to Sunday 8th May., we have stayed here a couple of times before. On Saturday night having returned from a meal out with friends which wasn't late, around 10.30pm. it wasn't long after we got into our room that we heard an almighty bang from the room directly below us, over the next 3 to 4 hours all we heard was bad language, smashing of glass and constant banging as if someone was thrown against the wall again and again. We made many attempts to contact the night porter without success, the call just kept saying mail box full. My wife convinced me not to go down to see what was happening due to the fact the night porter had gone missing(surprise surprise!). we then thought we should call the police as the situation seemed to be getting worse, but around 2.30am the noise seemed to stop. In the morning we spoke to the cleaner (name withheld) who said that they had received a number of compliant and that she would let her manager know, she said she was dreading going into the room. On checking out we spoke with the assistant manager who told us that the room immediately below us was totally wrecked, with broken bottles on the floor, mirrors smashed and blood and holes all over the walls. Being immediately above us meant we got most of the noise etc. Now although the staff are lovely and I cant fault them there are two things that are really concerning. Firstly, what on earth was the night porter doing (probably hiding in the towel cupboard) , he has a lot to answer to, why didn't he call police when got out of hand. Secondly, the ass manager told me that we would receive a call from manager, this hasn't happened 4 days on. I have also emailed Marston directly but again not a single reply, which I think is absolutely disgusting. Perhaps this review will make someone sit up and take notice, a serious incident occurred at this hotel and the least i would have expected was an apology from the manager!! Back to the Premier inns!

Set in a Victorian town house within a quiet residential street with sandy beaches just meters away, Viva Guest House will offer you a warm welcome at any time of year. The property offers modern luxury accommodation providing plenty of room to relax and unwind. Guests can use the southwest facing garden as a retreat for afternoon drinks and socialising.
We were very lucky to get a last minute Saturday booking at the Viva. I cant believe as a regular visitor to Clacton that I was unaware of this amazing B&B that has been operating for the last year. It is definitely by far the best accommodation experience we have had in Clacton and we have been regular visitors for over 25 years. Kirk is an exceptionally welcoming host and you can see that he has a genuine passion to ensure guests have a great experience. We stayed in room 5 which was a lovely spacious triple room with dual aspect windows. The bed was really comfortable, and the en-suite is a good size with a great shower. Breakfast was nicely presented and very tasty with plenty of options to choose from. The fixtures and fitting throughout the property are of a high standard and its spotlessly clean and has a a lovely relaxed beach vibe. Guests have access to a dining area , lounge and a really nice rear garden/patio area. The only negative is that there are only 5 rooms and I usually make arrangements to visit family at the last minute, I will now have to ensure I plan ahead in future. Kirk may need to expand to open another guest house as I think the demand for Viva will be huge. Look forward to returning soon and thank you for such great hospitality. Ray & Vicki

The first impressions that we got was that it was very clean n pleasent but during our stay the cracks started to appear The room was clean n staff were pleasent n friendly on the whole. When booking on line we pre booked a double room with 2 beds but when we arrived we were informed that we hadn't n they had split the beds for us. Also we had pre-book a gluten free options menu for breakfast. On arrival we were asked what we wanted for breakfast and I double checked that the bread would be gluten free and got reassured that because he has put gluten free it would be gluten free bread available for me. We got downstairs in the morning only to be told by kitchen staff that they had no gluten free bread because noone had informed them before the morning also they had no gluten free options for cereal or a separate toaster for gluten free toast as some people cannot have any cross contamination n it could cause alot of illness. Also the kitchen staff asked what I would be able to have for my cooked breakfast I declined sausages and hash browns because I didn't know what the ingredients were there was no offers of going to double check for me. By by looking at the sausage that dad had it would have contained more cereals etc than meat n dad said that it was the worse sausage that he has ever been served that he left it which is unlike dad cos he likes sausages. They did get gluten free bread for the next morning but no offers to toast it separately for us maybe the management and staff need to do training for food allergies and intolerance to gain a better understanding and remember to look at ingredients. The Saturday morning I used the shower over bath and could not turn the tap off even dad couldn't turn it off completely. Despite cleaners coming in the tap continued to run for over 24hours. The Sunday morning we noticed water running across the bathroom floor and when looking we realized that condensation was running down the walls also the bedroom window. When we spoke to a manager she seemed very defensive n I said that I wanted to show her the bathroom she came up reluctantly n all she said was that it wasn't like it n oh it's waisting water and that the cleaners would have sorted it but it was like it before the cleaners came in on Saturday and still the same when we came back in the evening so obviously they didn't sort it or other wise it wouldn't still be running. We had to leave early due to illness n there was no compassion when being told hope you feel better or any offers with bags as it was clearly obviously that dad was very breathless

I totally agree with Dave a total dump of a hotel! I also stayed there back in March 2022. I've only just posted this review as I have been in dispute with Booking.Com trying to get compensation. Finally, after two months, Booking.Com offered me a derisory £20. Their maximum payout if the hotel refuses to accept any responsibility! When I arrived, I wasn't sure if I was expected and had to tell the receptionist who I'd booked with. I definitely wasn't expected for breakfast the following morning. I choose this hotel as it had a car park, but of course, it was full. My biggest concern, not sure if it was staff or guests but there was an awful foul-mouthed verbally abusive row around 10:15 pm the first night. I felt very uncomfortable as I was alone. Hence, I didn't query any of my misgivings! For a superior room at £60 per night, with a sea view – you could hardly see through the window for the grime, they hadn’t been cleaned in ages. I had a large room but with the most minuscule shower/toilet, The shower "mat" was a huge wooden slimy board practically too heavy to lift. It came with two tiniest wafers of soap - no shower gel or shampoo and the cheapest of toilet roll. There wasn’t a hairdryer or toothpaste mug/glass in the room. The TV had no signal and the Wi-Fi was very weak. You would expect the above facilities if paying for a superior room. No menu was offered for breakfast just asked what you'd like. They had no BROWN bread on either day. The website mentions a restaurant but fails to mention it only serves fish and chips and associated fare. So consequently, the whole hotel reeked of fried fat. Finally, the website mentioned a bar but discovered the bar was closed due to refurbishment! Having a bar was another reason I chose this hotel! I was totally unaware of the refurbishment; I wasn't told on arrival, and it wasn't displayed on the website. After being turned away, I went to get my coat, I didn't really want to go out after a long tiring day but did fancy a relaxing drink. On leaving the hotel to go to a nearby pub, one member of staff was drinking at the bar, very galling! Avoid this hotel like the plague!
