We stayed here for 2 nights during our hike to the Quilotoa Lagoon. We were positively surprised about literally everything that the hostel offered us. The atmosphere and the love for the detail was just stunning and the food was delicious and local. There are several activities that can be done, but at the end the best thing to do is reading a book in one of the hammocks in the yoga studio whilst eating one of the oat-cookies. One of my best stays in a Hostel; and I was traveling for several months. Would definitely recommend it.

The hostel El Vaquero offers single, twin, double and triple comfortable rooms included a 4 and 6 beds dorm to meet your every need. Each one is fully equipped with elegant wooden furnitures and private bathroom with hot shower. The hostel has a splendid view on the Quilotoa valley and a breathtaking scenery which can be seen on all sides. El Vaquero provides half board (incl. breakfast+dinner with vegetarian and vegan option), all made with local and organic products.
We visited on 30 May and where the only two tourists there! Odd situation but the hosts were very hospitable and friendly. Unfortunately our Spanish is not very good but they percievered with us and made sure we had everything we needed. The rooms are all different and it is definitely worth upsizing to one of the larger rooms which are also a lot warmer and with a mountain view.

We loved the atmosphere, food, and room at Hostal cloud forest. The wood stove was warm, showers hot, the bed was clean and extremely comfortable. We had delicious simple meals and had a wonderful stay while hiking.

Hostal Dona Clarita is the premier homestay in rural Chugchilan, Ecuador. Whether you are hiking the Quilotoa Loop or planning an extended stay in our beautiful retreat in the Andes, join our family for a comfortable and authentic Ecuadorian experience. All rooms are $15 per person, and include breakfast, dinner, and unlimited tea and coffee in our family restaurant.
My husband and I and our two children (age 9 & 11) recently stayed at Hostal Dona Clarita for 3 nights. The rooms were clean, comfortable and spacious. Clara and her family were very welcoming and sweet. Clara and her daughter cooked delicious meals- big portions and good variety (breakfast and supper included with your room price!) We also had them pack us a lunch for hiking and it was also excellent. Humberto, Clara’s husband, drove us to Quilotoa twice for a reasonable fee so we could hike the crater rim to Guayama. We also kayaked in the crater, we visited the cheese factory and he took us to a beautiful lookout point and on a short hike our last morning there. Our kids were very sad to leave. They had a lot of fun playing soccer with Clara’s grandchildren and teaching them to play Yahtzee. We would not hesitate to stay here again. Thank you Clara and family! We hope to visit you again some day! ?

I'm sorry to read all the negative reviews on here! We had the best meal of our trip at Hosteria Chukirawa after hiking part of the Quilotoa rim: fresh lamb stew, chicken stew, plantains, veggies, large jug of narajilla juice (our favorite) and canelazo (sweet hot alcoholic drink), all for $17.50! The service was efficient and kind; they even gifted us two little alpaca keychains. We did not see the rooms but saw many people checking in. Do give them a try for a meal!

We stayed here for one night whilst doing the Quilotoa Loop. It’s the newest Hostal in town so it’s clean however it is definitely still going through teething problems. Pros: - clean and modern rooms - staff are friendly (it looks like it is run by a husband and wife/boyfriend and girlfriend combo) - showers are good - the communal area was nice and the fire was very warm Cons: - the food that we got included in our rate was average and we had better elsewhere on the loop - no curtains in our room. We had to ask the manager to bring in some curtains and even then they were basically a waste of space - we’d heard some negative things from locals beforehand. Apparently they stayed there and never got their breakfast because the owners had gone out the night before and got drunk, so weren’t able to cook them food (obviously this is second hand information) Finally, it’s worth noting that the trip advisor profile for this Hostal says the rooms have room service, a casino, minibar and fridge in room etc. This is not correct. It has none of those things.
