Overpriced and disappointing
Reviewed By U9431UUmatthieugWe had booked 2 nights in the Sources de Cheverny expecting a couple of relaxing and pleasant days. We were extremely disappointed. Room: We had booked a larger 'en suite' room as a family of 3 (with a 4 year old son) on the recommendation of the Sources de Cheverny. When we arrived, the room escribed as 'junior suite' was in fact a slightly larger room than the basic room, with the result that from 8pm, when we put our son to bed, we were sat in the dark, unable to switch a light on without disturbing him. Given that we had paid circa €500 per night for a comfortable room, it felt like a complete farce. I address this further below. Restaurant: we dined at l'Auberge on our first night. The food was distinctintly average and disproportionately expensive when compared to other local and better eateries. We decided we would not try it a second night or go to the other restaurant. Honesty Bar: the ironically-named honesty bar in the communal area was anything but. On offer was a basic coffee capsule for a guest to insert into the machine themselves, for 5 Euros. We rummaged around for the pieces of the games that were on offer in the game room but could not find a complete set. Extras: note that everything is charged in addition to the room - breakfast, access to the spa etc...so in addition to the overpriced room, you should expect to have to fork out at every turn. Service: while most of the staff was perfectly kind and polite, the management was unbelievably rude and unhelpful. After having spent a few hours after 8pm in the darkness of our room (that they had recommended as appropriate for a 3-person family), I went to reception to ask if we could cancel the second night and leave as it obviously did not correspond to our expectations. I was told that this was not possible and that I could either stay and pay the extra 500 euros for the second night or leave and pay the extra 500 euros for the second night without using it. When I explained that we were really unhappy with our room and the experience of the hotel generally and just wanted to leave, I was told that I could upgrade to another room for an additional 100 euros. The night manager eventually called the manager and came back explaining that "il est plus gentil que moi" i.e. he was kinder than she was because they would upgrade our room for no additional charge. The condescension was remarkable. The room we were given for the second night was more appropriate for a family of 3, but by then our stay had been ruined. Overall: we were left with the distinct feeling that the Source was entirely geared at squeezing every penny out of customers rather than ensuring a pleasant and enjoyable experience. It falls far below the standards of other hotels in that price range and we will never return. I should add that I have been hesitant to post this review as I have never posted a negative review before on any of our trips, but the feeling of being taken for a ride prevailed in this case.

Great location
Reviewed By Dirk_VDALocated just 1-2 minute drive outside the centre of Cheverny, set in a beautiful garden with swimming pool. The rooms are nicely decorated and airy. There is one busy road next to the hotel and if you keep your window open , you can hear the cars passing but there's hardly any traffic so it didn't evn bother a light sleeper such as myself. The hotel is run by a couple who are very knowladgeable about the nearby chateaux and the area. The breakfast is wonderful. You won't regret staying here.

Wonderful French bed and breakfast
Reviewed By 373debbiegThis was a fantastic place to stay for 4 nights for our family of 5. It has only two rooms so very personal and newly opened so the rooms were in very good condition and tastefully decorated. The host Dominique was friendly and very attentive. Breakfast was delicious and Dominique served a selection of fruit, pastries, yogurts. Meats and cheeses were also available as well as eggs and bacon. Delicious vegan options were also served. The garden was relaxing and we made good use of the hot tub! We would definitely recommend.

Reviewed By Flyer02200330469Calme, champs à perte de vue, les citadins que nous sommes étions dépaysés Le gite est petit mais charmant, meublé design, tout y est avec surtout une terrasse extérieure avec BBQ La 2me chambre est à déconseiller quand il fait chaud car en mezzanine et sans fenêtre le Château de Cheverny à quelques minutes, donc lieu de vie idéal pour la découverte des châteaux de la Loire
