It's a budget motel so I don't have high expectations, but this was such a disappointment. The wifi was so bad I could barely check email. I asked for dinner recommendations and both places they mentioned were closed. The coffee pot was broken and leaked all over the place. The bed feels like it was from an ancient age. Add to this that I got to see 2nd amendment stuff displayed in the lobby on the day of yet another school shooting. I couldn't get out of there soon enough.

Sweet place that's well maintained and operated by perhaps the friendliest, most accommodating staff in New Mexico. Extremely comfortable bed, spotless in terms of cleanliness and convenient. My only complaint is that it is definitely not pedestrian-friendly -- about a mile from the heart of the village and on the busy main road. But otherwise my three days there were solid and nice.

Nestled in the Rio Chama valley at the Southern tip of the spectacular Rocky Mountain Range, the Branding Iron Motel welcomes you from May to October and offers the comforts of home delivered with exceptional Southwestern hospitality. From our unrivaled location, hear the engineer’s whistle announcing the arrival and departure of trains from the historic Chama depot on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad.
Branding Iron is a quaint little New Mexico motel. We found it very clean and comfortable. Will stay there again when visiting the area. Not fancy with a lot of amenities but quite and peaceful. Management was friendly and check in was easy. There was no vacancy the night we stayed but plenty of parking.

Boy (68) and dog (2 1/2) The place reminds me of some family run hotels I’ve stayed at in Europe, but with a southwestern flavor. On the informal side, nothing fancy, very nice bed, good and unpretentious food, attentive and very flexible and accommodating service. I was able to store some of my dog’s food in the refrigerator at the back of the hotel on the ground floor which meant that she could eat her usual meals even though we were on the road. These things matter. She was welcome in the dining room which meant that she never had to spend any time alone in an unfamiliar hotel room. One thing I did that seemed to help her emotionally a great deal because she kind of clung to it when we were in the room was to bring her down camping bed that I had made for her some time back that we had traveled with before. It doesn’t need to be quite that fancy but any kind of blanket that your dog might recognize and feel comfortable on might be a good idea to bring with you. And if you don’t have pets they were very careful to let me know when a couple came in who are afraid of dogs and very solicitous of the couple to make sure they were not uncomfortable. So if you’re not a dog person don’t be put off by the fact that they are pet friendly but if you are a dog person rest assured that their dog Danny and the other dog whose name I don’t remember will be curious but stay out of the way pretty much after an initial introduction, shall we say. Don’t expect the Ritz. Not much of anything is new, but it’s clean and I would love to know where you beat the price.

Step back-in-time into our cozy rooms for retrospection of how things used to be, with value you can appreciate, comfort you can feel, and prices you can afford. We are very excited as we renovate this Gem near the Río Chama with a true "retro" feel and look for your immediate comfort and enjoyment. The property is a landmark at the "Y" intersection of Highways 84, 64, and 17 in beautiful Chama, New Mexico since 1958. Under new ownership since late 2021, we continue the Y Motel's legacy with an interior fresh look and furnishings of our 13 exceptionally clean rooms; five with kitchenettes that are a favorite for weary Continental Divide Trail hikers, eager big-game hunters, and visitors for over 50 years. The Y Motel is in proximity to diners, hardware and grocery store across the street to resupply and recharge your stay, and laundry facilities nearby in beautiful Chama. We sincerely hope you will choose The Y Motel as your next destination for your vacation getaway. We are proud of the efforts achieved so far to bring you a comfortable night's sleep and stay. To date we have deep-cleaned all rooms, installed ceiling fans, new queen beds, some rooms with twin bunk beds, bedding, linens, and pillows. We've added mini-fridges/full-size fridges (kitchenettes), microwaves, self serve coffee pots, lamps, bar height tables and bar stools (most rooms), and hair dryers to all rooms. All rooms are equipped with Direct TV with sports package coming in June 2022. Fiber Optic internet is currently in installation phase with a projected completion date of mid to late May 2022. We've also implemented contactless check-in for your convenience. You won't be disappointed! We look forward to serving you! Chama is a Gateway City for the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) Coalition. The CDT is considered to be the "Crown Jewel" among its sisters: The Appalachian Trail and Pacific Crest Trail. Congress established the CDT in 1978, stretching 3100 miles across the US Rocky Mountain States. The Y Motel is abuzz in the Spring and Summer months with brave and road-weary souls who conquer the trail; outdoor enthusiasts, and many Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad visitors. Fall and Winter bring hunters, cross-country skiers and snowmobilers alike into our cozy rooms. A hot air balloon rally and snowmobile poker run accentuate our winter skies and mountain slopes. Holidays are very active, with the Chama Chile Classic Ski Race during Martin Luther King, Jr holiday, the largest 4" of July fireworks display in Northern New Mexico, and for Chama Days Festival and Parade in August that brings softball teams and vendors from across the state.
The motel is like stepping back in time, charming and quaint. We were in need of a good night's sleep and this peaceful motel was exactly what we were looking for. The new owner and manager are friendly and caring. Room is clean and they are working at updating the rooms.

Nice rustic lodge in Chama. The pictures are accurate, decor is pleasantly from an earlier era. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. Consider requesting an extra blanket for cold nights. No air conditioning, so you may have to use the floor fan provided during warm days. Not the strongest Wifi.Though short staffed, Derrick and Brittany were very responsive to our requests. Good value for Chama.
