The best available hotels & places to stay near Cardiff

The Welsh capital may have begun its life as a Roman fort, but it's since become a bustling city. Where the fort once stood, Cardiff Castle has held court since the 11th century. It remains a central presence in the city, now full of lively art and music venues, hip boutiques, fun bars and modern hotels. Even with so many new and exciting things to see, the National History Museum is still the most visited attraction in Wales. Don't be the only visitor who plays hooky!

Could be better

Lovely rooms, lovely staff, lovely location, but what is that breakfast? We love sausages but they are the worst we have ever tasted. Extremely salty bacon and fried eggs that were hard. We both left most of it and agreed that it was simply awful. The cost of breakfast is £14 per head and if it wasn't included in the price of the room then we would have felt extremely hard done by. It's a shame as the staff can't do enough for you but they seriously need to address the quality of their breakfast as it has stopped us from ever wanting to return. They may have other comments in reviews claiming the breakfast is excellent but that certainly wasn't what we experienced, it was really bad.

Relaxing hotel

Stayed at the Voco whilst going to see Ed Sheeran at the principality stadium. This hotel was absolutely perfect! I can’t fault anything about it to be honest. The staff were excellent, especially the gentleman on the concierge desk that helped us with getting a taxi to the event! Made it stress free for us, so thankyou! Breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice and could look out to Cardiff bay whilst eating! Our room was so clean/spacious/modern and even had a balcony facing onto Cardiff bay. Little sweet treat left in the room to thank us for being IHG member, nice little touch. The spa and pool area was lovely..You had to book a time slot for the pool but we never struggled to get one. Be mindful that you do have to pay for parking at this hotel but can do it at reception. (They will get you to enter your number plate).

Fab hotel in a great location

Reviewed By Hannah W

Lovely hotel in a great location. We visited Cardiff to see Ed Sheeran, so it was very busy everywhere. The hotel was within walking distance from the Principality Stadium & St David’s shopping centre. Can’t comment on restaurant as we are in town but the bar had a nice relaxed atmosphere and stayed open later to accommodate for people coming back from the concert. NCP carpark opposite is convenient but expensive, however, if you validate your parking at the hotel reception desk before leaving you do get a discount. Had the most amazing massage in the spa the following morning, we didn’t use the rest of the facilities as pool was quite cold and sauna was out of action when we were there but didn’t really bother us. Great buffet breakfast too!

Very disappointed

Reviewed By 206faym

Understandably we booked this hotel as a cheap night away for a city break. However, my partner and I was disappointed at the lack of facilities. Firstly, when we arrived, they were unable to issue a key card so every time we left the hotel, the receptionist had to walk us up to our hotel room. Considering the hotel was full, and they had to complete this task with every guest, we was often waiting in the lobby for 20 plus minutes to await a person to allow us entry. We did not expect much, considering the cheap price, but still at £50 per night, we expected at least a kettle in our room. There was none, or any condiments. However, they did have a vending machine in the reception area to PAY for tea / coffee. However, when we stayed, this was also out of order, resulting into us walking across the road to Starbucks which is expensive. We are not ones to complain and are extremely happy with cheap and cheerful, nonetheless, we have stayed in plenty of cheaper hotels which have provided with the essentials of a kettle and tea/coffee within the room. In addition to this, we had an empty toilet roll within the bathroom, in which we had to request additional roll at the reception, which should not have been required being a reasonable attentive hotel. Despite all of these setbacks, the hotel staff were lovely and could not apologise more, they also stressed that they have had these complaints many of times - so really this should have been addressed previously!

Pleasant stay in a well-located hotel

Reviewed By Joe B

Never heard of Sleeperz before staying here but now I’ve stayed here for 3 nights I’ll definitely be coming back! Great location and value for money, right next to Cardiff Central train station which was extremely useful after a long train journey. Very friendly and helpful staff, and despite being quite a small room and bathroom it had almost everything you needed (except a toilet brush). Lovely breakfast, and most importantly I slept like a log in the very comfy bed. Air con meant that I could control the temperature of the room too. Good selection on the menu for a budget hotel too. Well done to all the team at Sleeperz Cardiff!
