Castello di Spessa is an historical residence in the heart of Collio in Friuli Venezia Giulia, one of the most famous Italian wine regions. It was built in 1200, and for centuries it was the residence of the aristocracy and a destination of illustrious personalities as Giacomo Casanova and Lorenzo Da Ponte; the castle offers 15 romantic rooms decorated in Venetian ‘700 and ‘800 style, and is part of a resort consisting of Castello di Spessa winery, Wine Shop, 18 holes golf course, Bistrot Il Gusto di Casanova, Hotel and gourmand Restaurant La Tavernetta al Castello, bar and restaurant Hosteria del Castello, digital detox Apartments in the vineyards furnished in country-chic style, and country hospitality at Casale in collina with 10 double rooms. It is also possible to visit the medieval wine ageing cellars, the most ancient in the area, and taste our wines by appointment. The Resort is the ideal location for ceremonies and classy events, as well as to organize meetings and conferences, thanks to the equipped Conference Room Casanova.
Very disappointing
Reviewed By Roving566846My husband and l after reading the brochure, we’re looking very much looking forward to spending 2 nights in this Castle. After arriving in heavy rain, in the dark, we found out the reception is not in the Castle but in a separate building. In the Castle there was no restaurant or bar, to eat last night, we had to drive to the nearby restaurant. Also to have a sauna or any other treatment, one had to get fully dressed and exit the Castle, very inconvenient in winter. However, the real problem was the amount of bugs in the room. They were crawling up the bed, walls and curtains. I was sitting on the bed and found one crawling on my shoulder. During the night, neither of us could sleep, one bug buzzed against my ear and landed on the bed beside us. Not only that we found several dead bugs on the floor. I have never written a review before for any hotel or restaurant that l wasn’t happy with. However this morning, having decided we could not spend another night in this room, on canceling our second night, and explaining why, because of the bugs, we were met with total indifference by the receptionist and other people there. Their excuse, well it’s the time of year and these bugs come in. No apologies whatsoever for our disturbed night, when we were paying euro 205 a night for the room. They gave us a discount of euro 45, when l see now, you could booked that room on TripAdvisor for less. Really disappointing and ruined our weekend.

Reviewed By ilovethebeach_10We only stayed here for 1 night and that’s definitely not long enough. Everything about this B&B was perfect (except minor mold at caulk in the shower). The room was immaculate, very nicely furnished. Bed was like sleeping on a cloud, pillows too. Sliding door to changing area with closet and another sliding door into the bathroom. These walls are sound proofed! Our room was on the ground floor and walked out onto our own private yard. Our bathroom window overlooked the vineyards in the valley. Breakfast was amazing. Super fresh and delicious. There’s a buffet, served quite elegantly, in the the dining room. Great coffee, great omelette.

Reviewed By Sandeep CAnd wonderful food, wine and service. Overlooks a golf course, and a part of three restaurants that are in the Castillo di Spessa. We did not stay and only stopped for lunch, but definitely worth returning, to stay, play golf and eat/drink very well indeed...

Reviewed By vjsantinoCormons Italy is a delightful change from the heavenly visited big cities. This is a perfect place to relax and recharge before getting back on the tour. This is were you will find the best white wines and cheeses and foods. We fell in love with the people and cannot say enough about how helpful to ensure your time. We spent 6 weeks in Italy and when asked, always talk about Cormons. PS: You need to rent a car at airport prior to get there. No real bus or taxi service but the train dies stop there. After that start walking. Also with a car you can make a quick overnight trip to Slovenia. The capital city is just a few hours to the East.
