All the 125 rooms and suites have sea views and among the many facilities available at the hotel are 3 restaurants and 2 bars. This eco-spa hotel is an active holidays establishment with a 24h reception and was renovated in 2012. It offers most of the Resort's facilities, such as Galo Active Health Club, (with daily class: power jump, Zumba, Step, GRIT, body balance,body combat, spinning, yoga) ASHOKA SPA, is our Spa which offers a range of beauty and health treatments and massages and ayurveda treatments. To complete the offer the hotel has a large swimming complex which lies within the underwater Nature Reserve, with easy sea access and were you can find the prize winner "Manta Diving Madeira Center" and Mountain Bike station and outdoor activities shop is only a few steps away."Dine around" is possible in 3 of our restaurant for Half board guests, Weekly entertainment programe (live music, folklore, presentations) WiFi is available in all areas and is free of charge. Free parking onsite.

It is located in a quiet area – we slept with winows open - with an easy access to the freeway, airport and others. It sits well over the sea level with acess to the water. However, do not expect any sandy beach there. We stayed at Galosol and enjoyed it very much. We liked the variety within the breakfast buffet very much. Our friends who stayed on half-board option were very much satisfied there, too. You will find well equipped indoor fitness and weight lifting areas, saunas as well as indoor and outdoor pools. A leisure room, travel and golf offices as well as a dive center serve the clients on demand. For us and our friends it was a perfect place to come back day by day after our sightseeings.

Reviewed By karenoX3413LVI am going to begin with just 2 tiny negatives - beds were quite hard (my opinion) and the breakfast coffee machine is dreadfully slow! Now the positives - the staff were all amazing, friendly and eager to assist. Joao in the restaurant was lovely. Talking of the restaurant, we never found ourselves short of something to eat. The breakfast selection was plentiful - cold meats, cheeses, breads, freshly cooked omelette, cereals, fruits and the good old bacon, sausage and eggs etc. Lunch and dinner were equally plentiful and was never repeated in our week there. The freshly carved legs of lamb on our last evening was to die for! Our room was spacious and clean, the bathroom was massive with the best and most powerful shower ever. Hand soap and shower gel were supplied. Mini fridge also in the room and bottles of still water supplied daily. We booked a side sea view room but we actually had a full sea view. The pool area was clean with plenty of sunbeds which people did not reserve which made finding somewhere to sit, at all times of the day, easy. The sunbed cushions were regularly sprayed with antibacterial spray. The gardens and grounds were beautifully kept and the spa and indoor pool were lovely. The courtesy bus made getting into and back from Funchal very easy and was prompt. This was our first visit to Madeira and staying here made our trip all the nicer. We would not hesitate to recommend a stay and we will most definitely be making a return visit. A huge thank-you to all - especially the entertainment staff who were so lovely and always stopped to have a chat without being pushy.

Lovely hotel and very friendly staff
Reviewed By 2022AmWe visited Riu Madeira as a couple in June 2022 and it had recently been renovated. The rooms are modern and spacious, and the lobby and bar areas are lovely. Staff were attentive and polite, and they were happy to help us with booking onto the shuttle bus to Funchal and booking us into the Kulinarium restaurant. There isn’t much going on in the hotel during the day, sometimes the animation team ran activities like aqua aerobics and bingo, so we enjoyed taking a couple of day trips out to Funchal on the shuttle. We were also lucky to book into the a la carte restaurant twice during our week-long stay, but we know others weren’t able to get a reservation, despite them looking a week or so in advance. The evening entertainment was ok, but we preferred having drinks in the main bar area and keeping to ourselves. There are plenty sunbeds and the pool area was never overly busy, even during half term week. The pool bar is perfect and handy to get snacks during the day. We also booked a massage and facial in the hotel spa with a therapist called Ana, who was very friendly and did an excellent job. The treatments were a great price and very relaxing. In summary, Riu Madeira is a quiet, peaceful hotel with lovely staff and great food and drinks. Would recommend you to make the most of the free shuttle busy to Funchal and look into day trips around Madeira, as we were a little bored after a few days.

Great for a trip with friends
Reviewed By Neil RA modern hotel well laid out around a pool, most rooms look seaward but another set are at right angles to the view. Our party, except one, had sea views and these are very good if you are on the first or second floors not so good on the ground floor overlooking the pool, but that was not a spoiler for us. The bar and restaurant have splendid views and each had friendly and helpful staff. Would recommend.

Cheap as chips
Reviewed By csbrantI’ve given it 5 stars because it was so cheap. We paid £250 for a week including flights! The rooms are spotless, good shower en-suite. No tea and coffee making facilities or anything other than breakfast available at the hotel due to Covid but there are some very reasonable cafes and restaurants across the road. We found these very good - the fresh orange juice was heavenly. Walls are thin so sometimes you can hear people noise from other rooms but it was always quiet by 11. The breakfast was the same every day which got monotonous. Sparse on the fruit and cereal which is strange when there is so much in the shops? However you can supplement this from the supermarkets across the road. Pool and gardens beautiful. Bus stops outside for Funchal €2.20 where there is everything. Generally very quiet and peaceful. Everywhere is so clean in Madeira.
