This was a planned overnight stop on our drive from Cogne to Chamonix. There was plenty of space to park and check in was fine so we were soon in Room 202, overlooking the lake. Dinner was good but we were charged extra for desert on our half-board package which was a surprise. A bottle of wine starts at SF39 but it was enjoyable. Dinner is served in the downstairs cafe area but staff were aware of my wife’s GF requirements. Room 202 was compact with no TV or drinks making facility. Breakfast served upstairs was adequate and again, GF bread was offered to my wife. The overnight stop was approximately £250 with dinner and wine. Nevertheless it was an enjoyable experience.

We stayed at the Petit Velan while doing a 4 day walk from Martigny to Aosta through the Col St Bernard. It's quite small and basic but very clean and comfortable. There is a nice kitchen with a little terrace where you can make a drink and sit and look at the hills and listen to the cow bells. The evening meal and breakfast were good and the welcome was friendly and warm. It is a very homely place which I'd definitely recommend.

The rooms on the road side have the mountain view but also the traffic noise. We were on the other side, grassy hillside, sometimes with cows, with bells. They were quiet at night. Room is basic, one light, no luggage rack or table to open suitcase on. Had hot water, decent bed. Breakfast was served to the table...coffee, boiled eggs, meat, cheese, breads, jam...plentiful. There is some outdoor seating where we enjoyed a beer . Dinner was excellent. we had the house speciality....can’t remember the name! It’s tender chunks of beef, cooked on this spiked metal structure...brought sizzling to the table, then flambéd. Served with savoury sauces, a rice dish and delicious fries and an excellent mixed salad. Was 20 francs each. Great experience. Service was attentive.

Very disappointed with hotel and food, the room was basic, no door to bathroom and a radiator that didn’t work and new shower that only had one setting which was scalding hot and could not stand under it We had dinner which was average and found the prices were ridiculously overpriced Will never return

We stayed here for a couple of nights hoping to explore the Saint Bernard pass and surrounds, but unfortunately it was closed. This Chalet and owner Bernard are just so pleasant in one of the most beautiful parts of the world. Our accommodation was on the second floor, and had a full kitchen, lounge, bathroom with big bath, bedroom and balcony. Breakfast was supplied and was delicious. I highly recommend a stay here if exploring the surrounds. Pleasant, clean, comfortable cosiness in the Alps.
