A beautifully located Homestay owned by a White Thai family. The property is a longhouse of 20 beds and 2 bungalows. Mr. Ta speaks English and German doubles as a cook and wood artisan. Come to enjoy village atmosphere with comfort and care.
This is a beautiful area but difficult to get to except by private car. 2 of the rooms overlooked the river and the view was wonderful, especially on the balcony. Walking was easy on paved paths to little villages and to the waterfall. The rooms were nice and very clean. But they were not 'sealed' from the jungle. The owner put up a very good mosquito netting over my bed at my request. It would be nice to have more seating in the room esp with the netting over the bed. The breakfast was 4 eggs in a big omelet. No bread or anything else. I didn't eat the noodles at lunch but they looked good. nfortunately for me the room being open to the jungle was a problem. (at the window & ceiling & around the doors) The bathroom was quite crude and had an open window about 18" square that let anything in/no screen or any way to close it off. Showers were over the toilet with a spray. The owner doesn't speak much English and that was a problem to try to pin him down exactly about the transportation to and from. I tried to communicate with him before arriving but he didn't have enough english to answer 'how I would get out of there'. It cost $35 (about 2 hours) for a car from Mai Chau to the Holiday hotel and $70 (3+ hours) from there to Ninh Binh. An expensive 'detour' for just this rustic place. One set of rooms you actually had to crawl up logs to get to and the handrail was very low to the ground.(see photo) The owner didn't provide any bottled water and gave boiled water for coffee/tea. When I left he finally gave me one bottle of water, that's the first I knew he had any. It's a beautiful area but this place is more for backpackers and a little crude for me. NO where around to buy anything.

Pu Luong Ecolodge is located in Don village - where you can visit the stunning rice terraces and stay with nature, also explore the pristine village of Thai people.

Pu Luong Eco Garden-The Mountain Retreat is composed of a villa including 8 deluxe room (double or family) and 1 suite with a large terrace with a outdoor bathtub , all overlooking the large infinity mirror pool, 1 stilt house with comfortable private room and 1 stilt house with 12 beds as dormitory. The restaurant and the bar provide some delicious local dishes and a range of cocktails.
Pros: -stayed in the stilt house, small but clean; -the food at the restaurant was delicious; -excellent location surrounded by beautiful scenery Cons: -allowing tour guides to leave their car engines running while waiting for guests (horrible for the environment and inconsiderate for other guests who have to hear an engine instead of enjoying peace and quiet)
