The manor house at Quinta da Lapa is nearly 300 years old, it was restred anew while keeping it's original architectural features. The estate produces craft wines in the wine region that's known as Tejo. It has 11 suites with complete bathrooms, a grand dining room, state rooms and lounges, a chapel and a party hall. The house is built around a big rectangular inner court with an imposing tri-centennial tree in the middle. Quinta da Lapa is located 67 km north of Lisbon Airport and just 24 km away from Santarem, the gothic capital of Portugal. You can stroll around the fields, use the pool house amid the vineyards, visit the winery, taste wines, visit other estates in the area, or simply relax in the quietness and privacy of the inner court.
This hotel was literally a nightmare for us…my son calls it “The Shining.” We arrived there on a Saturday with high expectations, as I was sure that I had discovered a hidden gem! It was our last night in Portugal and I was so excited to experience a local winery. Instead of a vibrant place, we found one overworked employee and a creepy place devoid of charm or warmth. We did not see one other guest, and my son was sure that the housekeeper was going to kill us in our sleep… yes, a bit exaggerated, but we decided that the only way for this place to be successful would be to bill itself as haunted. On top of everything else, we were charged $180 booking directly, and it was $122 on booking.com (my fault for trusting that booking directly was the best). This experience was by far the worst that we had in Portugal. The place has so much potential, but fell short in every way. It was a horrible night and I hate the feeling of being scammed!

I arrived late in the evening. I recieved a friendly welcome. Checking in was quick. The accommodation was 5 minutes walk. It was simple but very clean and well managed. No heating so I used the 2 blankets provided. Lots of hot water and clean facilities. Small cafe next door where woman behind the bar needs some training. Went to another friendly cafe. Good value accommodation.
