The best available hotels & places to stay near Aitutaki

August 14, 2022 Emerita Lamoureux

This small island encased in a triangular barrier reef boasts incredible lagoons. Relax with a intimate picnic on the alabaster beach of one of Aitutaki’s minor islands, uninhabited and lined with swaying palm trees. Despite its heartbreaking beauty, Aitutaki isn’t (yet) flooded with tourists, due to its relatively difficult-to-reach location. For off-the-beaten-sandbar vacationing, Aitutaki is a prime destination, especially for those seeking unbridled romantic ambiance.

Another addition to our honeymoon and we were lucky enough to get a complimentary upgrade to the 'suite' which was an amazing addition to the trip and completely unexpected. All the staff were very friendly, tentative and enthusiastic. The food/buffet dinner was lovely, as well as all the facilities and everything that comes with the room/s etc. Not to mention the amazing views and services that were provided by the resort

Aitutaki Lagoon Private Island Resort

The only private island, adults only resort in the Cook Islands. It is the only Cook Islands resort to offer that invention of incurable romantics - the Overwater Bungalow. And it is the only resort on Aitutaki with a truly Polynesian flavour, so you can truly savour what the South Pacific is famous for.

3 star resort at a 5 star price

Reviewed By Elavanya S

My rating is specific to the resort itself. It is unfair to charge 5 star rates when the hotel is only at a 3 star level given the up keep is not there and half the resort was inaccessible. Whoever planned when the maintenance needed to be done got it way wrong! In terms of breakfast, for the rates we paid, being provided just a continental breakfast with crap coffee is ridiculous. My husband and I went across to Koru cafe on the main island for their amazing coffee most days. A lot of guests did given the hotel’s coffee was crap which I found ridiculous. I would recommend they update their menu to offer a bit more for the price their guests are paying such as some hot breakfast options such as eggs, hash browns etc and proper coffee (flat whites, cappuccino etc. In terms of facilities, as mentioned above half the resort was not available to us. When we visited, construction was going on, so the other restaurant and pool were not available to guests. In terms of the overwater bungalows, I’m sure when it was first built, it was an amazing experience however I don’t believe any TLC has been given over the years and it’s very out dated. When I first arrived, I was shocked given how much we paid for our room. Perhaps the rates charged are banking on the fact where the resort is located which has the best views and beaches in atutaki, however that is still not appropriate to charge the price they do. Either bring your price down or invest in your resort. Again I want to reiterate my scoring is to do the resort itself. The staff and their service were amazing. A special shout-out to Sarah and her team, they made our holiday.

A hidden gem ... love it

Reviewed By avee8or

Ranginuis is a great location, a hidden gem of Aitutaki. We've stayed here a number of times before but it is the first since they renovated and it made such a difference. It is walking distance to Koru cafe, The Boatshed and the Blue Lagoon Restaurant/Bar. The main lagoon cruises leave just a short walk from the bungalows and KuteKute water taxis will pick you up from the beach in front of the bungalows. The beach is the best swimming beach, good width to the channel, good depth to the swimming beach though there is a current during the tides, but the sandbar means you can get from depth to shallow really quickly. The changes since our last visit; - New concrete paths provide access to all bungalows - The bungalow sizes are bigger they reconfigured them by moving to an open air shower (accessible through the bathroom) - The water pressure is much better - UV water filtering makes for drinkable water in the bungalows - New BBQ on the decks - New beach furniture (loungers/love seats) - Heat pump/Air conditioning (at an additional cost) - Can get rental scooter or Car We really enjoyed staying here before, but it has certainly gone up a notch since then, really good quality accommodation at a fraction of the neighbour across the water. Well done Steve and Lani

Perfect

Reviewed By mikebutcher2016

We stayed for 8 nights in this absolute beach front hut. This is not the place if you want aircon and other luxuries, but these back to basic huts were perfect. A few metres to the beach, SUPs available, and on a beach that was fantastic for the sunsets and the snorkelling out from the huts. We took a lagoon cruise with the owner- great all day cruise to beautiful spots- highly recommended. We hope to return and do it all over again.

Aitutaki Bliss

Reviewed By Hills50

Tai Marino has 2 self-contained Bungalows on a beachfront family property run by Vaea and Marokii, who were wonderful hosts only a phone call away if needed. Vaea greeted us off the plane with beautiful leis, had arranged a rental for us that was ready at the airport and showed us to our bungalows. These units are well equipped if you wish to self cater along with fans,air-con and screens and a verandah with table for meals. Fresh fruit, milk, cereal and drinking water provided to start our stay of 7 days of bliss. Great deep all tide swimming spot right outside the units also a canoe to explore the lagoon plus loungers and a hammock on beachfront. Vaea has a wealth of knowledge about whats happening on the island suggesting places to eat, sightseeing, cruises doing Vodafone vouchers. The units were cleaned, sheets and towels replaced after the third day.We stayed here with friends so was lovely to have the whole property for ourselves. We would highly recommend Tai Marino and hope someday to return.

Gina's Garden Lodges

Gina’s has two properties on Aitutaki Island, Cook Islands. One - Gina's Garden Lodges, is on the main island, and is about 5 minutes walk from the Tautu landing, on the Eastern shores of Aitutaki lagoon. The second, beach side property is situated on one of the reef islands at Akaiami Island - 5 miles across the lagoon. This is Gina's Akaiami Beach Lodge. We are family friendly and welcome children of all ages. Both of these locales offer an environment that is special to Eastern Polynesia, and in their own way give reality to those Pacific dreams which travelers seek, and which cannot be found at Resort Hotels.

Minus 1 and a complete rip off!

I booked to stay here, but before we stayed there, we had read the reviews, which read REALLY poorly about management and the reception you could except, so I cancelled WITHIN the correct period. Luckily we didn't stay there! What transpired was this: Upon going back over my bank statement at a later date, I saw that I had been billed $600 for a non existent stay - we DID NOT stay there! So, I rung gGina's, and had a conversation with a VERY rude, belligerent man, who swore to god that no one but no one had booked the week I said I had, told there was no monies accpeted AT ALL that week, and no onoe had stayed. Fine. I left it, stewed on it, and tried again a week later. Low and behold, he knew EXACTLY who I was, and who he was talking to, knew that I had initially booked in that week, even though he lied to me and initially said that NO ONE had booked that week at all, told me I was a no show (even though I had cancelled), that he was entitled to my money, told me to shut up, and hung up on me!! So, I am now out of pocket $600, and I am furious! I am taking steps to enlist the help of the Auitataki Police, Expedia and Consumers Rights NZ, and I WILL NOT stop until I get the monies owed to me.Sadly for him, my bank statement has got Gina Garden Lodges clearly on it, so it is proof that he pcoketed the money. I am determined to get my monies back, as I am not a walking ATM! Aitutaki Budget Accommodation

My best place and time where I ever stayed

Reviewed By Yuito1987

This accommodation is one I really want to recommend everyone if you expect different stays from one in ordinary hotels. The hosts,Greta and Ned, and also everybody around them were all really accepted me as one of their family members. Needless to say, their accommodation is very clean, comfortable, wide, good location and well-maintained even though it is surprisingly reasonable price compared to the others in this island. But as I mentioned at first, their hospitality was outstanding. Before my visiting they recommended me Teking Lagoon Tours and it was correct. When I told them I needed a bicycle to go around the island they called the shop and kept it. And after the lagoon tour, they took me to their "GOLF CLUB" meeting (party) in their local community. There I had really unforgettable time with talking and drinking with them. I am honesty honored to be their first Asian guest in their place. And again I would like to strongly recommend there to everybody visiting this island.
