Opened in July 2010, the HI Whistler is a purpose-built hostel that was originally used as part of the Whistler Athletes' Village during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. This brand new facility sets the standard in hostelling with all the amenities you'd expect and then some. There's more to HI Whistler than just a place to sleep. Grab a coffee and snack at Cheaky's Cafe in the hostel lobby, lounge on the outdoor decks with mountain views, store your bike, skis, and boards in the equipment storage room, hang out in the media room with its 52" HDTV and meet some cool new folks over a free game of pool in the lounge.
Overall, our stay at HI Whistler was good. Mind you, this is mostly a hostel, but we opted for the single bed room. A decision I’d recommend for most, unless you’re really trying to save money. The room was clean, the bed fairly comfortable, and the bathroom had the basics. Now, for the price point, it was good and you probably shouldn’t expect too much. However, we found things like out-of-stocked vending machines (both food and drink), a lack of extra/thicker bed sheets, and a dismal cafe somewhat disappointing. None of these things make or break our stay, but just things to note. Once again, for the price point you’ll enjoy the stay. The ~30min bus to Whistler is simple enough and you can use that saved money on food.

This accommodation is fine, as long as you know exactly what you're booking and what can be expected. Firstly, know that this is a student dorm, and very much feels as such. The room is on the small size, very basic with student grade furnishings, white drywall and concrete walls with no artwork or niceties. The rooms are not air-conditioned resulting in a room temperature of 89 degrees F at it's warmest. Upon booking on line, I was under the impression that my room was to have two twin beds, only to find one queen. The photo of the room when booked did show the twin beds, so there was no reason to expect otherwise. I also made a special note to this effect of the desire for the two beds. When I inquired at the office, I was informed that a twin bed room was not available. They offered a cot, which was a cheap Ikea foam mattress for the floor. Under the fitted sheet, the mattress was stained and discoloured. The mattress was supplied with a top sheet but no blanket. Fortunately, I didn't need a blanket due to the heat. In addition, I was charged another $10 per night for the mattress, and was told that you either get one queen bed or two twins, depending on what's available at the time. Our booking came with a breakfast for both of us, which was a nice touch. The small ticket stated breakfast from 730am to 930am. We arrived to the student cafeteria at 9:10 only to be met by a rather abrupt and borderline rude cook, stating that the hot breakfast was over at 9:00, pointing this out with tiny print at the bottom of the tiny voucher. This, even though there were large heated trays full of food left. He reluctantly served up two plates of food, which was very mediocre at best. The single piece of bread that came with the breakfast was lightly toasted, dry without butter and quite inedible, as it must have been sitting for two hours (hard as a rock). Within a few minutes of our arriving to the cafeteria, a student who we recognized as a worker in the office, arrived for a plate of food only to be verbally reprimanded for being late by the same grumpy cook. We ended up going elsewhere for breakfast the following two mornings. Cleanliness of the suite was just acceptable but not as clean as one would expect from a proper hotel. Furniture was dusty and there was debris here and there on the carpet, bathroom passable with some stains on the towels. Hallway carpets were not recently vacuumed, and the coin laundry room was a total mess. Clearly there are no additional Covid high touch cleaning protocols in place as indicated, which was a bit disappointing. This sounds like a poor review, and it's really not meant to be! The purpose is to let prospective bookers know more accurately what can be expected. On the plus side, the location is good, very close to Spanish Banks beach, and 10 minutes drive to Kitsilano. The UBC village is a few km away and has everything that one could need. My daughter and I had a nice time in Vancouver over the three nights, and we did not feel that the accommodation tarnished the trip ... it did not. But for $353 room + $30 extra mattress + $37.50 parking = $420, you may be able to find something a little better, although I know that accommodation is expensive in Vancouver. But Carey is geared toward student accommodation before a proper vacation rental accommodation, and this is very clear when staying. But if bare bones, utilitarian quarters that is just acceptably clean is all that you need or expect going in, you'll be in good company.

6/8/2022 One star is indeed too much for the below. Pls take into consideration what I am writing here. It took me ages to book online my future stay in Vancouver with that mediocre hostel through first Hostelworld and later directly online with the hostel itself. A real nightmare! Now, I am spending additional time to make sure I post negative reviews online but I am glad to do it. I can assure you that Cambie downtown Seymour hostel is not a reliable, trustworthy hostel you can rely on. Early April, knowing that Canada is busy in spring, autumn and summer, I started doing my homework and booked my stay with Hostelworld. Since then, I did not finish being on the phone and computer correcting booking issues with the hostel staff. First, Hostelworld booking # did not match the hostel one. OK it was corrected. Second, the bookings which followed were cancelled by the hostel without my authorization and they blamed me and Hostelworld. Third, the hostel manager called Victor begged me to cancel the Hostelworld ones and keep his bookings performed directly online with the hostel instead. I did it. And now after all those acrobatics back and forth, Victor has the nerve to cancel them. What a disgrace! I was stunned. FYI, his staff working is rude, impatient and lack of courtesy customer service when I took myself the time to call from USA and confirm my bookings. I was paying the phone calls. It was a real nightmare. Now, I just booked somewhere else. Yes, online Seymour is the cheapest but cheap is expensive. I wasted 2 months and now, today, in June I got a cancellation email from Victor. Unfair not ethical professional business attitude from that hostel! I wish to make sure you all know about it and book somewhere else where it is guaranteed you will have a place where to stay. Anyway, if you decide to book with that hostel, make sure you confirm your booking because what you paid and book might be not what you get. Coming from Canada, it is very strange but unfortunately the staff is not originally from that country. That is why they behave that way. I am a world traveler and never had such nasty, mediocre, and poor level experience. I booked my stay with Edmonton, Calgary, Banff, Lake Louise, Gasper and Tofino within a couple of seconds without going through that ordeal/nightmare. I did not deserve such treatment. The hostel messed with all my bookings. I can write a book. I won't recommend that hostel to my best friends.

The largest hostel in downtown Vancouver with a central location in the entertainment district. We boast a clean environment with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. Everything you need in a hostel! Clean, comfortable, safe and fun, SameSun is the place to stay in Vancouver! You get what you pay for in this city, so if you want the best experience for your stay in Vancouver, check out the #1 rated hostel in the city!
Not clean, bad atmosphere, small rooms without space, unhelpful staff, I left the hostel without sleeping there and they didn't ask me why, I must not be the first… Not recommended at all. The price not compensate for the lack of ventilation and hygiene. This is the first bad review I’ve done in my life.

Great location and decent price for a private room (in comparison to other options in Vancouver). Very basic room, just a double bunk bed, and shared bathroom down the corridor. Bathroom wasn't great, there was nowhere to change for a shower so you either struggle in the tiny cubicle, or just get naked in the middle of the room! £70 per night feels like a lot when you think what you'd get elsewhere in the world, but Vancouver is a pricey city and if you're only planning on using the hostel as somewhere to sleep its not bad. We didn't use the shared kitchen facilities, so can't comment on them.

The Whistler Lodge is a 42 bed backpacker's hostel, centrally located just 3km south of Whistler Village and 1km north of Whistler Creekside. Our historic lodge was built in 1965 by students from UBC's Varsity Outdoor Club and until recently, was operated by the Alma Mater Society of UBC. Now under new ownership & management, we offer bunks in dorm style rooms as well as private and semi private rooms. If you are looking for an authentic Whistler experience, come stay with us!
If I could I would give this place unlimited stars! The staff is super nice and easygoing, as are all the people who stay there. It feels more like a home than a hostel, super clean and bright with loads of stuff to do and always cool people to meet. I stayed here for 3 weeks while searching for permanent accommodation in Whistler and honestly I didn’t want to leave even when I found a apartment. I will definitely be back in the future :)

Sitting in the heart of downtown Vancouver, the St Clair is a nautically themed 1911 renovated heritage building offering travellers accommodation with character.
The st clair hotel hostel was a heritage building, with a nautical theme running through it. It was small and quaint and a very inexpensive option. i aprreciated the free tea and coffee offered at all hours. The pass code to get in to makes you feel safe.

I stayed at this HI for a total of 4 nights (first 3 nights, then left for Banff for 2 days before returning to stay for 1 more night), and would say that this is a good choice if you're looking for a no-frills, clean-enough pod. I'm commenting as a private room-dweller here, so my experience may differ considerably from the dormers. In general, the rooms I stayed in were clean enough, but I didn't really like how 'private room' here doesn't actually mean en suite, i.e. no private bathroom. Granted, the shared shower was just right across from my room, but if I'm paying for a 'private' room, then I don't think it's too unreasonable to expect a private *en suite* room. Not a huge issue, but definitely, eh, room for improvement there for the folks at HI Downtown! And one more thing: I found the room a bit too warm at times (even for someone staying in late Dec!), and would have appreciated the option of an in-room controllable heater. Now on to the good points: Unless you want to be right in the centre of the action, the location of this HI is actually quite optimal. It's a 1-min walk away from your closest Starbucks and Denny's, a 5-min walk away from the nearest supermarket (called Davie Street's Independent Grocers), and two streets away from a wide range of restaurant options. The only 'downside' to its location is that it's a 15-min walk away from the closest SkyTrain station (which would be Yaletown-Roundhouse), but again, this isn't a *big* deal if you don't mind the walk or don't mind shelling out 3 CAD dollars for the bus ride. Bus station is close enough though, just a 2-min walk from the hostel, so that gives you transport accessibility to Stanley Park, Gastown, Yaletown, the Waterfront / Canada Place etc. The complimentary breakfast is quite good. There's oatmeal and continental options (bread, muffin, scones - even), with a decent selection of spreads on offer (PB, blueberry, raspberry jams, marmalade, margarine, honey). The coffee is free flow Nescafe, which is good enough for a hostel free breakfast. (Again, if you want better coffee you can always walk over to the Starbucks a couple of blocks down, or there's a 24-hour bakery/cafe called Breka's, a 7-min walk away). The front desk staff were all very helpful, and I appreciate that they had let me store my luggage for two nights while I gallivanted off to Banff (lol) - sans storage fee. They were also quick to order taxis (especially when I needed one at 5 am in the morning for a flight to Calgary!) and answer questions, so you've definitely got a friendly, helpful reception crew at this HI. Overall, I found my experience here satisfactory, and everything was good enough. I must, however, say that as a frequent HI dweller, I have definitely stayed at better ones.

From May 15-August 15, Pacific Spirit Hostel is the perfect location for backpackers visiting Vancouver. Rooms are quiet and clean and, unlike other hostels, you only have one or two people to one of our private single or twin rooms. The hostel is on the beautiful UBC campus, with easy access to campus amenities, affordable food, pubs and entertainment and Vancouver's many attractions. It's a safe, secure environment surrounded by hiking and biking trails and Vancouver's most popular beaches.
Great value for money. Beautiful surroundings. So many places to walk and explore. Large number of cafes and restaurants close by. Everything one needs is here. Bed was reasonably comfortable if abit hard. Pillows were soft and could be better. Microwave, kettle and fridge available in kitchen on each floor. A little free library was on the west mall up and to the left from hostel.
