Tokyo is the epitome of frenetic energy and jam-packed cosmopolitan culture—it’s populated by 12.5 million people. Still, it’s one of the safest cities in the world, ensuring a (nearly) carefree stay packed with pulsing nightlife, succulent cuisine and endless city experiences. Four national museums, gorgeous gardens and parks, Michelin-starred restaurants, and kooky-chic street fashions are only part of what makes Tokyo so unique. Don’t miss the Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art, the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden and the Gwen Stefani-lauded neighborhood of Harajuku.

The Grids Tokyo Asakusabashi Hotel & Hostel is located in Asakusabashi. In addition to our hotel and hostel facilities, we also have a cafe and bar available for guests. Our carefully designed, impeccably clean guest rooms are separated into dormitory type rooms for our hostel, and private type rooms for our hotel. Guests can relax and chat in our cozy cafe and bar, where they can enjoy coffee, dr
Surprisingly close to JR Asakusa-bashi station. On the contrary of what I just said about the location, if you're using a pass that doesn't include JR line, you will have to walk all the way to Metro Akihabara which is like 10-15 mins away. Staff was not very impressive. We arrived in the morning and have to wait in front of the front desk for quite sometimes until someone ask what we need (of course, we want to check-in and left the luggage so we could go and rest somewhere). She then asked for our passport, do something and gave us back the passport and that's it. Not telling us anything, where to put the luggage, or when we should come back for checking in. We manage to find space for luggage storing by ourselves and it was very small, messy and almost full already. They use automatic light system for the whole building which was pretty scary for me when I use the shower. The bathroom was separated into 2 parts; dry and wet. I was showering inside the wet area – suddenly the light went off, then it turned back on when I moved, and after few mins, off again, and I see all of that from a mirror. Only 2 bathroom per floor. One elevator for 10 floors. Charge for every single amenity. Common area suits only 4 people but you also have to share it with people who use the washing machine as well. No cutlery, chopsticks, cups or glasses in the kitchen. Ridiculously, this is the only place where you are allowed to eat your food since they use the 1st floor lounge as a cafe so they don't let you eat any outside food there. Room price doesn't include breakfast, you have to pay extra 700 for breakfast. I shared my dorm with 4 other guests who went to sleep at 10 and then woke up at 4 in the morning to have a party, cook their food with rice cooker (not allowed, of course, for all hostel) right next to my bed and keep the voice loud even after I ask them to lower their voice. I report this to front desk but they refuse to do anything.

It was the worst hostel in all. The attitude of the staff is just too much. Especially the staff with beards are the worst. I was surprised that they behaved like thugs, like they wanted us to leave as soon as our stay was over. It was really unpleasant. The long-term guests are also very unpleasant people. There are even people who let food scraps rot in their rooms. Also, there is a hygiene problem. The rooms are dusty and I never saw them vacuuming or cleaning the air conditioners. The beds are not washed, just the sheets are removed. I think they haven't washed the bedding in several years. The rooms and bedding are dusty and make me cough. Toilets are shared. They are cleaned only once in the morning and used by a large number of people. Therefore, the toilets are always dirty. To be more specific, there is often urine on the toilet seat and water from the bidet that has bounced off the buttocks. Also, there is a strange smell due to the proximity of a water purification plant. It looks stylish and clean in the picture, but in reality it is old and dirty. The bar downstairs is also expensive and disgusting.

Most of the staffs can speak english & really helpful. The room & shared bathroom are very clean, have a nice view & close to many popular places like Asakusa Sensoji Temple. There are cafe in front of the hotel & convenient stores nearby or you can have a meal at their cafe. The nearest station is around 5-10 minutes walk. The price is cheap for every hospitality i got here! Here's the view i got from my room on 7F.

Stayed there for 6 nights..the room was clean, the bathroom was small size but it was clean also..no breakfast provided though..it was walking distance from nearest mrt stations, 7/11 and Lawson but the mrt station didnt have elevator so it was quite an effort for us to take our luggages from mrt to hotel, using manual stairs :(..the hospitality of Ficus was great also. Since we came 3 persons, we were provided with mattress for 1 person, however on 3rd night, the mattress was damp and when we asked for an exchange, the other mattress was damp also thus we didnt use it for the rest of our stay.

Our party of 4 had reserved 2 nights at the Mitake YHA by email (based on the Lonely Planet's recommendation), but we needed to cancel the first night due to our train being severely delayed due to high winds. We emailed to inform them but there was a little miscommunication and a language barrier, so they didn't think we were coming at all. Also they had an unforeseen family issue which couldn't be helped. We were waiting outside the empty hostel wondering what we were going to do... Luckily a Japanese lad who spoke fluent English was staying in a hostel opposite and they all helped us out. They got hold of the YHA owners for us, who came back promptly from Tokyo. After all the confusion, our one night stay was lovely, and definitely worth it. The tatami rooms were comfortable and large. We had 3 rooms between the 4 of us. The roll-out beds were fairly comfortable. We had Wi-Fi and a heater. The bathroom was great - 2 low shower heads to wash and a lovely hot onsen style bath in the corner to relax in. The whole place was very clean and tidy. Our traditional Japanese breakfast was delicious - rice, fried egg, tofu, picked veg, fried greens, squid (I think) with wasabi paste, soup and green tea. We were charged a fee for cancelling one night, which was a shame as we did inform them, but we understand things can't be helped. Mt Mitake is a fantastic place to visit and walk a few of the trails. Stunning views. Definitely worth a visit, and I recommend Mitake YHA.
