Romantic Rhineland-Palatinate is at the very heart of Riesling production in Germany, home to the largest wine regions in the country. The state is defined by lush vineyards, quaint medieval villages, UNESCO World Heritage sites, picturesque castles, volcanic lakes and wine-rich valleys. Its sylvan forests and rising mountains provide the perfect backdrop to a summer hike, bike ride or wine tasting adventure, while its cities and towns are alive with cultural activities and festivals.

We stayed here for one night to break up a longer drive across Europe with my husband an two boys (9 & 12). We were all so impressed with this find.... I mean, it’s a castle right?! With stunning views over the Rhine. It’s in a great location with easy access to the quaint old photogenic town below just 15 mins via some steps directly outside the hostel. We ate in town at Cafe Burg Stahleck which I thought was good quality and value. Facilities at the hostel are good - drinks, snacks and food all at reasonable prices. The room was very basic but fine. We had a large family room with private bathroom - there were 7 bunks and a little table & chairs. The view was outstanding. There’s a nice courtyard where you can sit and look over the river, and a family room with toys & games and a ping pong table outside. Breakfast was nice, and the entire price for this experience cannot be faulted. Take your kids & manage your expectations around accommodation standards and you will love it.

This Youth Hostel has been renovated last year and it is now a nice place to stay. Services are not so high level but rooms are really clean. No room service available, but good day restaurant for breakfast and light lunch.

Don’t come here unless you don‘t know how to spend your time or money, we bought the combo tickets including the cable car; it’s a total waste. Most of the places are under renovation; few places which were open are totally boring, and there is no English translation. Big disappointment!!

I stayed here for one night during a 14day hiking tour. Room with bunk bed was good enough for the night. Noisy due to groups of children, but when you're tired, sleep will get to you. Several restaurants in the neighborhood of herberge. Nice low price with breakfast. Lunch and diner optional.

this was well worse walking up the hill, very nice staff, very good accomodation all brand new and modern style with enough room and a table to play at. Food was also very good and nicely presented. A short walk away is a castle to visit free of charge. if it wasn‘t corona time ... they also have an indoor pool, play area for kids.

With my boyfriend we were there for 1 night (my birthday (: ) I haven't sleep in e real castle before and fortunately Grafenschloss kept everything possible from the ancient time when it was acting castle. We slept in the tower room and the view from there was awesome, the room was small with two floor bed but it was charming. The breakfast was extremely good with variety of food, vegetables and fruits, I was surprised. Bear in mind to have at least 1-2 hours for a walk in the city center, it's down on the stairs from the Grafenschloss for around 5min, the city is charming, very green and with a lot of flowers everywhere, why not to stop for some ice-cream in the many ice-creams places they have. As it is not exactly hotel type place you need to remove the bed linen and the towles from the room by yourself and just place it in the big container on your floor, which is not such a big problem.

We booked a room in the Venue Frankfurt Hahn for the night before our holidays, to be close to the airport. Mark, the landlord is an amazing person, very welcoming and friendly. We arrived later than announced in the evening, he was waiting for us and he welcomed us with a cup of tea, which has been highly appreciated! His place is a real "home sweet home", the reception/bar is a magic room where all the guests can share a moment all together, it is well decorated and make travelers be in a great ambiance before or after their trip! Our room was bigger than expected, very warm and well decorated as well, the bathroom, inside the room was very clean and big. It was a real pleasure to be there! Moreover, we left our car there during our holidays and Mark drove us back and forth to the airport for a good price!! We can only recommend this place and we will for sure come back again!!

With family in Austria, this is were we stop-over on the way home every year. It's a youth hostel so it is clean, cheap and basic. We love it here. We've never had any problems, rooms have been usable for the 4 of us, 2 adult and 2 children (who loved the little packet of sweets left on each bed). There are some small play areas for the children which is nice after we've sat in the car for 8 odd hours (depending how the A8 has been). You need to put your covers on ready for sleeping and In the morning you need to remove your bed covers and place in a large bin ready for washing (German efficiency - keeps costs low). Also good life practice for my boys. Again, this is a youth hostel not a hotel so this is part of the deal. We partially like the choice of food for breakfast, while it is not huge it meets the need - getting us ready for the next days travelling; Germany with lovely autobahns, Luxembourg for cheap fuel, Belgium for the dodgy pot-holed roads and finally France (we don't think much of their motorway stops!) for the train home.
