COUNTRY HOTEL IN NORTH-WEST ICELAND We are very excited to welcome you to our newly renovated two star hotel located at Húnavellir, just a few miles from Blönduós. At Hótel Húni we strive for a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all our guests. The hotel has 28 bright and cozy double and single rooms. We are located in the middle of some of the most beautiful landmark places in the north west. We are located just a few miles off the main road with a hot spring supply right on our land. To all our guests during the summer season, we offer a warm and calming bathing experience at our beautiful pool located right outside your window - a perfect place to relax in the midnight sun after a great day in the Icelandic nature. At arrival all guests are offered a guided tour through and around the building and are treated with a small home baked good from our kitchen a long with a cup of warm coffee or tea.
Had a lovely stay, the rooms are small but clean, the toilets and bathrooms are simple but clean. The outdoor swimmingpool is amazing!!! The breakfast was delicious fresh and plentiful. But the best thing about the hotel is the sunny, smily and beyond helpful staff who made us feel welcome and straight at home!

What we liked about the hostel: very helpful staff; many bathrooms; nice view. What we didn't like about the hostel: shaky bed (when you climb up, you can disturb your mate); you can hear people from other rooms; not ideally clean (esp showers)

I arrived late & Knutur had left the hostel open for me. It's a long stoney , dirt road , not easy to drive in at night. When I woke up I was amazed at the view that awaited me. I was all alone in the hostel ( low season) and had this vast view ( see photo ) to take in. (Unfortunately I was alone , it's an incredibly romantic place !!) I was not really prepared for how remote Osar is ( neither a village or a hamlet , just a farm ) and it's important to know that there is only a snacks shop available off season & other options are nil I believe- bring food to cook. The hostel had everything you need , great kitchen ( massive) , great hot shower. When guests came in the following days, it's a fabulous place to cook, chat & exchange travel tips. The main attraction for me on this peninsula ( Vatnsnes) was the seal colony which knutur directed me to ( through his farmland). There's also the very impressive rock formation in the sea down the road ( 10 mins walk) which I think looks like a donkey drinking , not a sea monster ( it's called Hvitserkur) & has been ravaged by the sea. On the same peninsula there's also the story of the tragedy of Illugastadir & the story of Agnes Magnusdottir, the last public execution in Iceland ( she was publicly beheaded in 1830 not far from the peninsula).(A book called Burial Rites tells the story.) There's also a volcanic plug on the peninsula called Borgarvirki which I went to, fabulous views and impressive improvisation on the part of the Vikings for using it as a fortress too. I had a wonderful conversation with knutur in his cafe one day & he let me watch him feed the sheep too. It's rugged & vast, quiet and pretty and I'd recommend this hostel / peninsula ,esp for couples/ those who want an escape. Very reasonable. Not great for those without a car. Bring supplies out of season. There are eating out options in summer season.

We LOVED this guesthouse. We turned up on their doorstep without a booking and they let us in straight away - turns out we were their only guests for the night (being the middle of winter). The owners were super lovely and we chatted with them for quite a while. The whole place is very comfy and the shared bathroom is enormous. The location is quiet (like everywhere out this way), and has a really nice outlook. Plus, the breakfast was to die for! So good. For the price there's no way you can do any better.

My husband and I stayed in Riverside Hostel when we came to visit our daughter who lived in the old girl school right on the other side of the water. We didn´t expect hight standard because of the price and hostel standard but were pleased with the room and the house. There were several other quests but it was quiet and peaceful all the same. Most guests made their dinner and breakfast in the kitchen, which was well equipped. We had announced our arrival and got the roomnumber from the owner. The key was in the lock and there was no inconveniance with this simple check in, All in all we had a plesant stay.

Karuna Guesthouse is a family-run guesthouse located in the North of Iceland. The farm is located on road 75, between Varmahlíð and Saudarkrokur. We offer all year accommodation, both in Gulluhús, a cozy house with 5 bedrooms, all twin /double rooms with 2 shared bathrooms with shower. In the old farmhouse that is newly renovated, is the lounge and 5 larger rooms that are all equipped with coffee/tea facilities and with a private bathroom with shower. These rooms accommodate one double room, two triple rooms, one quadruple room (family of four) and one family room for 5, they all have a private entrance. They are not included in Gulluhus, i.e. it needs to go outside to enter a shared kitchen and lounge. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to prepare a great meal. We are located on a farm where we have a magnificent view, horses on grazing, hens on a paddock, and a few dogs at play. Here we offer comfort and peace
This is a great little hotel in a rural area of Iceland with very few accommodation options. They have kitchen facilities which were very helpful given that there are also few dining options in this area as well. Pro tip: stop and pick yourself up dinner groceries (maybe a Grandioso - most popular pizza in Norway!) at the grocery store in Blönduos. Be sure to research the hours - they close early (4pm on Sundays!). Travelers - be aware - the owner “advertises” leaving free items for you to cook for breakfast. Be prepared to arrive early or scavenge (or just bring your own). During our stay, one group of guests took over the kitchen and prepared their breakfast and lunch ( egg salad sandwiches ) with the supplies left for the guests (?) which left us and the other guests trying to politely manage sharing the last 2 pieces of bread and dry cereal. If this happens contact the owner who is willing to help. We did not know this until after our experience. In our communication with the owner, she clearly knows this has been a problem but has yet to remedy it (would recommend starting with a note in the kitchen stating 1 egg per guest please). Other than that - cute place. As noted in other reviews, the water does have a strong sulfur smell - but hey, what do you expect - it’s Iceland!!

It was low season and not many people here during our visit. We stayed here one night and we were only customer that night. But owner still prepared a good breakfast for us three. The room is clean and bed is comfortable. WiFi works fine. The most important is location. It is about 15’ drive to Hvitserkur. The evening to the Hvitserkur seeing northern Light was a great experience.
