Lijiang is a beautifully preserved ancient Chinese town, infused with cultural flavor. Strolling along the 800-year-old bridges and waterways of the world-famous Old Town district is like stepping back in time. Don’t miss the views atop Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, and the Dongba cultural center of Jade Water Village.

Pros: located outside north gate, walking distace 5 min to old town, 10mins to four square and the water wheel. 20 mins to black dragon pool. Local food and souvenirs more cheaper than Dali. Helpful and friendly host. Cons: Hilly place. But still okay because the owner helped us carried the luggages.

Timeless Hostel boasts comfortable dormitory rooms and private guest rooms, a patio that offers a view of Lijiang Old City and the surrounding mountains, WiFi and hot water, and a social common room and DVD room.
The place is quite nicely decorated and the rooms are comfortable. Mattresses are significantly above Chinese average and we much appreciated the comfort provided. Price is competitive, good value for money. If we had 2 small complaints, it would be the length of the beds that are 180cm long which is short if you sleep on your back on belly, and the staff who was professional, but not very friendly.

Sleepy Inn Lijiang is centrally located in the Shuhe Ancient Town of Lijiang. Sleepy Inn Lijiang was converted from a Naxi minority family’s house and garden. All the buildings reflect the rich fabric of the locale through their design and furnishings. Sleepy Inn Lijiang has the only swimming pool with water coming from the snow mountain. It overlooks a stream across the village and tall trees to the front and a landscaped garden and village houses to the back. Shuhe Ancient Town used to be an important hub on the old Tea-Horse Road. This historic town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 for its multi-ethnic charm, historical milieu and architectural landscape. Do you want to start a day from a well-prepared breakfast and a cup of tasty coffee? It is not easy to find them in the other properties but our staff will get them ready before you wake up. For the whole day, snacks and casual foods are always available whenever you are hungry. There are many things you can experience within the property - relaxing yourself besides the swimming pool, enjoying sunshine and fresh air in the garden, reading books or drinking a cup of tea on the terrace, or just doing nothing with a laid-back way of living, etc. In addition, Sleepy Inn Lijiang features a range of organized and do-it-yourself activities. You can take a bicycle to tour the surrounding villages and farms along the way to Jade Dragon Ancient Town. You can hike through Jade Dragon Snow Mountain aor the Tiger Jumping Gorge of Jinshajiang River. You can ride a horse in the flowered alpine pasture. Don’t want to go far? You still have an option of watching the popular performance of Ancient Naxi Music Instruments Playing. We look forward to your stay at Sleepy Inn Lijiang!
Let me first say that the owners of this place are very friendly and provide great services that are above and beyond. They washed my clothes for free, provided breakfast, gave us free can of air for Snow Mountain, and were just awesome. But, there is more to reviewing a place than just the people in it. This hotel is in the "ancient" or "old" town on the outskirts of the city. There are two main "old" towns. The other is in the city proper area. There are many hotels in this old city. And, this one is all the way in the back. Hard to find. And, it is easy to get lost in the maze of streets to find your way back to the hotel. We got lost many times, always having to ask merchants how to get to our hotel. The hotel is older than the others it seems. It is not a well kept place with cobwebs everywhere, poorly kept garden area, and the "swimming pool" is more like a concrete pond for mosquitos and algae. The hotel lacks the character that the other places seem to have as well. On the positives, besides the outstanding owners, the beds are very comfortable. It is very quiet in the back, away from the singers and music of the bars, and there is very little foot traffic. The bathroom is clean and has plenty of hot water with good pressure. Although there is no A/C or heaters in the rooms, the rooms were cool (July stay). If you are a dog lover, they have a very large dog that is eager to play. It seems that most people here have a pet dog in their hotels. I guess it depends on what you are looking for. I visited both old towns and this one seemed better. Fewer people hawking their wares in your face and no beggars. It is a bit out of the way. The town is mostly flat compared to the other old town that you are constantly going up and down stairs. There is plenty of restaurants and bars for your night life. I think if you are looking for a more authentic "ancient" town experience, this hotel fits the bill. Simple and clean. It is very quiet and peaceful.

A sophisticated and truly homey hostel made a fantastic stay. Communal and rooms are well-equipped and nicely designed, incorporating with the owner’s extensive travel and travel writing. Rooms are named after famous international cities. The thematic paintings, photographs and special notes in the room created an immersive experience and truly bring guests to the specific scene at the destination. Super friendly staff, extremely attentive, exceptional services, and helpful with local tour information; (Nice coffee Lisa, thank you!); Wide options of self-organised in-house and outdoor activities. The highlight is definitely the library. A huge personal collection of National Geography, Lonely Planet, other travel books, fictions, photographs, sculptures from all over the world. Make a perfectly relaxing afternoon, while sipping coffee, reading books and browsing the next destination. Centrally located, steps away from the Shu He ancient town centre, easy to shopping around. Will certainly stay longer in next visit.

Delamu Inn is a characterful courtyard hotel perfectly located on the edge of the old town, with shops and restaurants within very easy walking distance. The hosts are wonderfully kind and always helpful, and we shared a lovely family-style meal with them one night of our stay, which was also very affordable. We would love to return to Delamu Inn.

In typical Lijiang style, this place has no means of heating the place in winter and the locals simply don't seem to feel the cold! Whilst proper duvets and blankets were provided, we struggled to sleep due to the cold and the pillows were a little hard. Showers were also cold. This aside, the location is great - right next to the Old Town. Staff were friendly and spoke enough English, but had very little knowledge of local attractions. Western breakfast was OK and reasonably priced. Very nice communal areas and a courtyard. The place has wifi with a VPN, so can access Facebook/Google etc.

I owed a review for this Hostel for a long time - I traveled to Lijiang with my colleague back in November 2012 and stayed there. The rooms are clean, spacious, very pleasant, cozy as well. More importantly, we met good people here - the staff were super friendly. The manager was a young man from Guangdong and had lots of backpacking travel experience. very interesting person who can share with you many interesting stories. He was very friendly too and a person you can turn to if you need help. He even helped us with luggages when we left the hotel and the lovely town. I wish I could have stayed there longer and got to know more about Lijiang and Yunnan. Though a bit pricey compared to other hostels, this hostel would definitely be a home away from home for many of you.

Fed up with Taiyan's business-oriented atmosphere and attracted by the transquil but featured place like Baisha Ancient Town. And in fact the hostel is not a eas place to find but the receptionist is so kind and friendly to pick me up.Along the main street, the traditional handcrafts are eye-catching,and when nignt comes, most of the shops are closed, just like going back to ancient life. The magnificent Yulong Snow Mountain is always there if you lift you head. Life here seems to be slow even the cloud not willing to leave.
