We only stayed 1 night but it was lovely! The reception guys are super lovely and we had an issue of popping a tyre on our moped so the reception guys called the company and had it sorted for us that the next morning a new bike arrived! They helped to show us where to go into town and are very knowledgeable about the good spots!

We stayed at the this property between 19 - 22 May 2018. The building is a historic mansion of the type called a 'yang lou' (洋樓), built probably around the early 1920s. These were mansions and villas built by Kinmen natives who had migrated to Southeast Asia (principally, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines) to seek their fortunes. The successful ones remitted money home to erect mansions and villas like these between the 1910s and the 1930s: many examples of this kind of buildings still dot Kinmen. This particular example has been lovingly and sensitively restored - it is a delight to explore, and if history is your kind of thing, you will absolutely love this. History aside, it has all the necessary mod-cons: free fast wifi, ample hot water showers, and air-conditioning (or you could just opt for fresh air by throwing open the windows). The hosts Amber and Jack have filled the rooms and the shared communal areas with all sorts of delightful and quirky objects. Jack is a good cook: we looked forward every morning to the breakfast of native Kinmenese cuisine. We spent two full days exploring the major sights of Kinmen, and our main regret that we didn't have time for some of the places that we would have also wanted to visit (for example, Little Kinmen Island). A stay of perhaps 3 to 5 full days would probably have been ideal - there are certainly enough sights to fill a full five days. Amber arranged the transport for us - there is also the option of going around on bicycle, or simply taking walks around the neighbourhood. Taxi rides into one of the towns are easily arranged, and it a simple matter to catch one of the many taxis cruising around in the towns to get back to the B&B. Thanks to Amber and Jack, we had a wonderful holiday. This is definitely one of those places that we will want to go back to when we need a break!

988 B&B is a fairly typical, traditional guesthouse for Kinmen. It's situated in a tiny village that has a few other pretty homes and a small, lovely temple. As of this review, the location of the B&B on the TripAdvisor map is inaccurate, but the maps on Agoda and Booking are correct. To get there via bus from the ferry port with minimal walking, take any of the bus 7's into Jincheng, then take bus 3 to Wucuo (吳厝), only a few stops from Jincheng. The stop is immediately after the first left that the bus takes (be sure to press the stop button). Go across the street, straight past the first house in front of you, and you'll see the guesthouse with its blue side walls probably on your left. If you don't want to wait for bus 3, you can walk about 25 minutes from Jincheng; go south from the main bus station, past the roundabout, and after a long while turn left at a small temple on the corner. The guesthouse will be in the village on your left and should take no more than a minute to find as it's not far from the road. If the front door is closed, try the left side door. Regardless of how you get there, it's still best to ask the owner for directions ahead of time. The owner is quite friendly and chatty, but she is often not at the guesthouse. When I first got there, there was no one there, though the door was open. I waited in the reception area for maybe twenty minutes until she arrived. Since I didn't have a Taiwanese SIM card, I couldn't call her, but if this happens to you, there's a WiFi username/password on the wall that you could use, and then use WeChat or Line (those numbers are also found somewhere in reception) to contact her. Very early the following morning, I was going to participate in the Kinmen Marathon and she was very kind to drive me to the event free of charge. Note that her English is very limited, though that's normal for most Kinmen residents. I booked the double bed with shared bath. There's no heating in the room, so it can get chilly in the winter, however heavy blankets are provided and they really are effective. Though the guesthouse is very close to a major road, it's still fairly quiet at night and in the morning. All toiletries are provided for free, including shampoo, conditioner, and body soap in the bathroom. The bathroom is typical Asian style with no separation between the toilet and the shower. The first night the shower ran out of hot water, but the following night it was hot and the water pressure was great, so be sure to be the first person to take a shower! There are also free little packets of tea and coffee and free bottled water in the room, but no hot water kettle (probably in reception). The owner rents out both gas and electric bikes along with a single bicycle for free. She could also provide transportation to/from the airport or ferry port, but that's probably for a price. Understand that there are no restaurants in or near Wucuo, not even a 7/11, so you would have to go into Jincheng for food and supplies. There's a table and chairs in the courtyard if you'd like to relax there with a bottle of the local liquor, 高粱酒.
