Johannesburg is the place to go to mix big-city culture, shopping, dining and nightlife with outdoor adventures, up-close wildlife encounters and visits to historical sites. Explore caves and nature reserves, or visit a traditional village by day, then enjoy dinner at a hip cafe or five-star restaurant. And if you're a shopper, bring an extra, empty suitcase. With malls, open-air markets and places that blend the two, you'll find plenty of unique souvenirs.

We had a fantastic Tuk Tuk experience of Soweto and while we already went to Soweto many times this one was unique. Friendly people from the backpackers but also great connexion with local communities. We finished the visit with a nice traditional meal thanks to Gogo!!!! Highly recommended

Designed for you, the curious adventurer who just wants to get out there and live a little, wander a little and wonder a little, Curiocity is your base to explore. Clean design, cozy accommodation, local culture, and a community of like-minded people mean that, whichever one of our cities you’re in, you’ll feel like you’ve found your tribe. Step out the doors of our flagship design hostel, and you’ll find yourself in the heart of Maboneng, one of the coolest neighbourhoods in Johannesburg (or ‘Jozi’ as we South Africans call it). With restaurants, cafés, museums, and markets tucked away on every corner, you’ll want to explore every inch of this gritty, gorgeous urban jungle.
To start, the staff at Curiocity are hospitable and caring. The hostel has an inviting common area with a lively bar that's great for socializing. Kitchen facilities are terrific while the on-site restaurant serves very tasty meals. Comfortable dorms too, with plenty of space.

Stayed more than two weeks in Melville house, as it is a friendly place on a relatively secure compound and with adequate facilities. Wifi works well, the showers are hot and there are kitchens to cook. Friendly enthusiastic staff that will help you to solve problems (well appreciated after I was mugged in downtown Joburg). Melville neighborhood offers not only places to go out, such as the bars and restaurants on 7th street, but also hiking options in the nearby Koppies nature reserve and Botanical Gardens park area. Supermarkets like Spar and Pick&Pay are in the vicinity of the hostel. Inexpensive public transport to the city is available as well. Rea Vaya C4 and T3 are the numbers of the relevant buslines. Of course alternatively you can use Bolt or Uber taxis (not too expensive outside peak hours).

The objective of this 4-Star rated establishment is to deliver the JOY and HAPPINESS of its patrons as denoted by the Kiswahili word, FURAHA. If you want to start the spark of a new or re-ignite the fire of an old romantic relationship, this will be your memorable spot. If you want a productive strategizing and planning environment for corporate executives, this will be your muse. If you want a tranquil space for winding down or refuelling or reflection, the grounds will offer that energy.
Could not speak more highly of this little gem and the most helpful staff . Passed thru JHB for my sons karate tournament and stayed two nights at Furaha Lodge . Beautifully decorated and the settings homely but the cherry for me was the friendly and helpful staff . Area is challenging but with UBER our stay was worth it .....

Disliked · For 800 Rands per a night we was disgusted at the "service" that we received. 1) We were rushed to get to the establishment by the owners. 2) We were informed by the establishment Manager/Owner that he didn't know of the booking 3) We did not receive keys when we checked in, instead we were let in and gates closed behind us. 4) We were shown to the room which was very sub-standard, one large open plan area. 5) The door to the room had no handle on the inside to close it, and we had to leave it open the whole night. 6) There was a tv on SABC 2 (with horrible reception) and a remote laying next to it, however the remote had only one out of the two batteries required for it to work which rendered it useless. Further to our astonishment only 1 other public tv station was available. 7) The manager/owner requested for a payment which we proceeded to do an EFT transfer into his account infront of him & verifying all details along the way until the payment was completed. 8) The open planned room had 2 beds, 2 noisy empty fridges, 1 glass, plate, and some cutlery in the dish dryer on the sink, hardly hygienic & clean to use. 9) For the 3 of us staying there, we were only provided with 1 towel to share between us, literally not even an additional face cloth. 10) The toilet leaked when flushed. 11) The two beside lights did not work, one was builbless and not plugged in & the other one just didn't work. The ceiling lights flickered. Not easy on the eyes.... 12) The alarm for the electric fence was going off constantly beeping the whole night. 13) There was no amenities provided during our stay, no coffee/tea, no bottled water, no soap or hand wash, or anything else, NOTHING. 14) There was apparently no WiFi because the owner/manager said that the internet was off (however) we could clearly see the password protected wifi networks of the place on our devices. 16) On checking out the owner said he had not recieved the funds and would not let us out until we proved we paid.
