The Upland hostel located in the downtown, It is the most popular praise for Backpackers in Jianshui, very high cost performance hostel. The hostel is located in the absolute center of the city, close to the Zitao jie, the position of the one and only, enjoy convenient.

We had actually booked the Sunflower Trekker's Lodge right next door, but when we arrived it was locked and boarded! Since it was low season many guesthouse were closed. The Yuanyang International Youth Hostel is located right near the minibus drop off point in Pugao/duoishu. This makes it really easy to get up and see the rice terraces at sunrise but also to take your backpack/luggage to your hostel. The facilities are similar to other YHA hostels in China and our double bed was comfortable but our room was very small (oddly the two of us, as the only guests were put in a very small room but when a guy by himself showed up, he got a much larger room!). We were given a discount due to low hot water pressure and were very happy with this since the water did not bother us much at all! The food is delicious although many/most items were not available due to low season and the hostel not purchasing much. The issue was really the service that is making me rate this hostel so much lower. The guy at the front desk was really sweet and interesting to talk to, however this didn't cut it. We really needed/wanted information on hikes in the area as that was what we came to Yuanyang for. Both the really nice guy and the incredibly useless girl at the front desk are not from the area. Therefore, we mainly had to do walks on the road and find our own paths (didn't want to do too much of this for fear of trampling the rice terraces). I found this so disappointing! The guy did his best but the hostel really needs to up their game in this respect. Also, We stayed for three nights and not once did they clean our room. Now, I know this is common practice for short stays at YHA locations, however, I have never been somewhere where they don't even enter to empty the garbage!!! In low season, this may be there best option, but otherwise, I recommend staying somewhere else especially if you want guidance on hiking in the area.

Zen Terrace is a new hostel outside of Qingkou Folk Village & steps away from a spectacular viewing platform overlooking rice terraces. One of the owners is a English teacher & the other two owners are Hani minority local to the area. Zen Terrace holds English tutoring classes for the local village children right in the Hostel. Come stay at Zen Terrace to experience the true Yuanyang country life.
I would really like to give a positive review for this hostel, as our overall experience in Yuanyang was excellent and the host at Zen Terrace was very hospitable and helpful. However, I felt that it lacked in essential areas - notably cleanliness. Some of the problems were forgivable for a new hostel but some not. The biggest issue was the wasted potential of the place, as it could be brilliant. Starting with the positives, the beds were comfortable and the sheets clean. The location is good, if you're unable to get a room in Douyishu (Jacky's or Sunrise), as you can look out of the window and see the terraces. The nearby folk village of Qingkou is interesting, and the nearby terraces are photogenic. You can easily walk to the Qingkou viewing area, but the view from opposite the hostel is also good. The host speaks excellent English and is extremely helpful in arranging transport, giving recommendations on the area etc. However, the room was filthy when we arrived, and we needed to clean the floor and toilet ourselves before feeling comfortable. There was even a bag full of someone else's rubbish left on the table. Basics like toilet paper were missing. There were no towels - when we asked we were given small hand towels that were damp and of dubious cleanliness (to the hostel's credit, the host went and bought a full-size towel the next day, but just one between two people). The list of missing basics goes on: beer but no bottle opener, plug sockets mounted high on the wall so phone chargers etc. dangle; and, bizarrely, not a sink in sight, meaning you have to wash your face/hands and brush your teeth while squatting under a shower and soak your feet each time. Another point to note if planning to stay is that the hostel serves no food or drink, and there is only one restaurant within walking distance. The restaurant is Yunnan-style, with very good food and friendly service, but there is no menu and you have to go to the counter and choose your ingredients, which may be a struggle if you don't speak Chinese or have any idea of what works with what (especially as many of the ingredients won't be familiar to the Western eye). The hostel is very new (maybe less than two months old), and there is a huge amount of room for improvement. It's such a wasted opportunity as there are so few accommodation options in the Yuanyang area. The overall experience could so easily be improved by hiring some cleaners and maintaining a basic level of cleanliness, serving some basic food (dumplings, toast, fried rice, tea, coffee etc.), providing towels (even at a charge) and toilet paper, and making better use of the roof terrace. The hostel is called Zen Terrace but the actual roof terrace is barren, dusty and more of a utility area. Adding a few chairs and tables would make much better use of it, as the view from the top is great.

Stayed here for one night after crossing the border from Vietnam. Staff were very friendly and it is in a great location near restaurants, shops etc. There's also a cool park/large median strip across the street where lots of locals were dancing/hanging out/eating in the evening. Great spot for a bit of people watching. Rooms were ok though. The room itself was clean but the loo was very dirty which wasn't great. Made the overall stay fairly average. As I said above, we only stayed for the night on the way to Kunming and it's a decent place for that job.
