Our hostel is located at the heart of the idyllic coastal village of Port Campbell, on Victoria’s famous Great Ocean Road. Set in a picturesque horseshoe shaped bay in the pristine Port Campbell National Park on the aptly named Shipwreck Coast, some of Australia’s most iconic tourist attractions are less than 10 minutes away; including the world renowned 12 Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge, London Bridge and the stunning Bay of Islands. Our hostel enjoys superior ratings and reviews on key backpacker booking sites, has sustained an excellent rating on TripAdvisor and enjoys ratings that place us among the top Victorian hostels. Plus, we are regularly ranked as one of the cleanest facilities in Australia. Our hostel is a modern, custom designed facility that provides travellers with all the mod-cons to provide the very best budget accommodation for people seeking an affordable Great Ocean Road experience. It was meticulously designed and purpose built to cater to the needs of backpacker guests on over-night or short-stay visits. Its design provides a contemporary and vibrant accommodation experience, with 15 rooms offering a range of bedding types. While we are located close the heart of Port Campbell (with all the conveniences a traveller needs, along with a great range of shopping and dining venues) the hostel feels wonderfully remote. With breathtaking views across the Port Campbell National Park and northwards, up the Newfield Valley, natural light fills the hostel and provides both a unique and welcoming atmosphere. Being located less than a two minute stroll to the pristine Port Campbell beach, many guests can enjoy slipping off to sleep to the dull roar of the mighty Southern Ocean, pounding the cliffs of Port Campbell Bay.
Lovely stay during a busy first weekend out of lockdown. We stayed in a private room which was massive, could have fit 4-5 people. We were able to bring our dog (had to ask first but responses were quick and friendly) without paying extra for a pet cleaning fee. Don't expect a full service hotel room however, there was only one wall-fixed soap dispenser, no toiletries/shampoo or hair dryer, hand/face towels, etc. It is very much a nicely decorated private room in a hostel. No food or drinks allowed in the room either, so you have to eat in the communal area. No bar fridge/coffee/tea making facilities in the room either. Definitely go elsewhere if you're looking for a hotel experience. Full service kitchen with multiple sinks and everything you need on the outside, and the lounge / bar area was so cute and comfy with tons of books/games/even a puzzle to work on. About 2 minutes walk from the beach and a great little spot to explore great ocean road from. Port Campbell itself is a tiny little town and this hostel is definitely one of the best places to stay while you're there. The hotel manager was fun to talk to, and you get a free drink on arrival!

I travel to Apollo Bay about once/year and I always stay at this hostel. The location and facilities are fantastic and the value for money is great. I always found the staff helpful and kind. It is a pleasure to return here. Definitely recommended.

Established in 1887 as the Ballarat Hotel, this grand property, along with new ownership was renamed as the Great Ocean Road Brewhouse in 2015. With new owners and passionate locals, the stage is set to recreate this historic hotel to her former glory days. I stayed here for a total of 3 nights on my GOR adventure. The accommodation is fairly basic but you get what you pay for and I thought it was reasonably good value. The rectangular room was not very large but I had no intention of spending more time than I needed to in the room. The double bed was clean and comfy although it barely fit across the width of the room. I had to squeeze between it and the heater to get to the other side where there was a small side table with drawers and a window over looking the street and the rear of the old post office. There was a small sink with taps, good for brushing teeth, a rack for hanging clothes and low stand to set a suitcase on. Across the hallway there were male and female toilets and separate male and female bathrooms. The bathrooms even had a bath (well, the male bathroom, anyway, I didn't go into the female bathroom but I assume it was the same) as well as a shower. No sink though, hence the teeth brushing in the sink in the bedroom. At the end of the hall, towards the internal stairs, there was a unisex bathroom (and toilet, I think). I only gave it a glance as I used the facilities across the hall from my room. Residential guests accessed the rooms via a steel grate staircase at the back (due to covid protocols). The staff were friendly and kindly filled my thermos with hot water in the mornings before I set off on the day's adventures. On my second night there I was awoken at stupid o'clock by the window rattling. I'd seen the forecast and I thought it was the wind that was shaking the window frame. It's an old pub, once the Ballarat Hotel, probably around 120 years old, or more. It was a bit annoying but I managed to get back to sleep. Approximately 40 minutes later I was awoken by the rattling again. This time I couldn't get back to sleep which was far more annoying as there was very little I could do. It was pre-dawn and I didn't want to wake any of the other guests. And the Apollo Bay Bakery wouldn't be open for quite some time yet so I couldn't even go and get a coffee. A few hours later, as I was setting off for the day's adventuring, I caught a few minutes of radio from Melbourne. Turned out there had been a couple of small earthquakes in the early hours of the morning in the vicinity of Apollo Bay. Despite what people have said, it turns out that, in fact, I could not sleep through an earthquake.

I am so very glad that I found this place. I moved to Warrnambool on a whim hoping to get some work. I had looked at the Turn-in Motel and this Hostel and decided to follow my intuition so I came here. Safe to say my intuition was correct. This is the most comfortable Hostel I have ever stayed in. The staff are genuine, honest and kind. The kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms are kept hygienic and clean. There is a very comfortable living room area with tables, chairs, couches and a very nice Large TV. There is even an Xbox and Netflix available! The Free Teas and Coffees are a bonus and there is a great selection of pots and pans in the kitchen, you’ll find what you’re looking for. But better than all of this is the all important “hostel-vibe”. It is calm, welcoming, relaxing and ultra-unpretentious. There are no obnoxious speaker-announcements in the rooms, no door-to-door knocking to shame people into going to the bar, no annoying beer-pong tournaments full of screaming millenials. This hostel is just peaceful. The Owners have good energy, therefore the hostel has good energy. This is evidenced further by the fact that two cats choose to live here and are very happy. They wouldn’t cope if this Hostel was crappy and loud like so many others are. Ruby and Ninja are adorable by the way! I have a sincere amount of gratitude to the owners of this place, thank you for the affordable weekly rate, thank you for the assistance and kindness, and thank you for providing a loving space where I have created many beautiful memories. ???

My friend and I were doing the Great Ocean Road Trip and this hostel was recommended to us by fellow backpackers further up the road. We hadn’t intended to stay another night but decided to give it a go on our way back to Melbourne. We ended up staying for two nights! The hostel was clean and tidy and the room was nicely laid out. It is close to restaurants (would recommend trying the burgers at the Bottle of Milk) and the beach is just across the road. There is also a supermarket next door if you want to cook for yourselves. Best of all the owners were really friendly - it was easy to book ourselves in despite it being last minute and we were welcomed by both Tom and Robbo. They were both very accommodating throughout our stay and went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. Hope to be back some day!

This hostel is at the site of a converted old house which is well located with the main Port Fairy street a short walk away and the beach a short drive away. Wasn’t your typical youth hostel clientele but this may be a reflection of the current COVID travel restrictions and so there were a few families staying. Good large shared kitchen and fast WIFI in the front rooms but didn’t reach the back rooms.

Found a broken shower head on one visit to Anglesea in August 2016. Functional kitchen facilities and a comfortable living area. Room service was fairly average although the Wi-Fi does not really work.

Had a great time. Quinn is an awesome owner and made me feel right at home. Lots to do and see in the area. And the backpackers is much nicer than in the pics. Looking forward to when they open the campsite. See yas next time, guys! :)

The place had private rooms that were pretty large for the price. Bedroom, living room, and kitchen. No views really but good walkable location to sight see and restaurants and grocery store and shopping.
