Welcome to our urban rooftop hostel in the heart of Aarhus. With its location in the very centre of Aarhus, our guests have the best opportunity to enjoy the fantastic vibe surrounding the hostel. We offer several room types to cater for all our guests' accommodation needs. Choose between common dormitories, double rooms and family rooms, all with stunning views of the city's roofs.
The bare minimum, the lowest of the lowest expectation and delivery of a hospitality service is to ensure that the guests have a place to sleep. This is what DanHostel failed to deliver and refuse to take full responsibility and compensate. If you choose DanHostel due to location being close to city center, you got to really love the streets, because you might end up sleeping there! A stay at DanHostel will end up costing you more, both financially and emotionally. We were supposed to stay for 2 nights, but our room cards suddenly stopped working on our second night. Their reception close at 9PM, with no emergency number or any visible information for how to get in contact with the staff. The management are either arrogant or just plain stupid to believe that no errors/emergencies will not occur at their property between 9PM – 730AM. And if it does, they just don’t care enough to pay staff to be on call in case. We couldn't access the front door (another guest was kind enough to let us in) and neither our rooms. So, there we were, 10PM in the evening, nowhere to go, all our stuff is locked inside the rooms and no staff to get in contact with. To avoid sleeping on the streets, we had to find the nearest property to sleep as we were approaching midnight. To be honest, we were tired, stressed, desperate and just took whatever was near. Fast forward, I had to send multiple e-mails, made multiple unanswered phone calls, and contacted Booking.com who chased them before finally getting in contact with management. When speaking with the management they admitted to the error being their fault, as the receptionist only added 1 night to the room card. Despite admitting the guilt, they keep refusing to reimburse for the full additional cost, leaving me having to pay the cost difference out of my own pocket… for their failure on deliver a service that their whole business model is relying on!! No reason or logic was behind this other than “we care more about money than our guests”. If you wonder what I am asking for here, I am happy to elaborate. The total cost of our stay at DanHostel is 3635,6 DKK, our emergency stay at another property is 4785 DKK. The management thought this is some kind of negotiation and started the offer of only reimbursing for one night which meant I needed to pay 3321,2 DKK extra out of my own pocket. I barely reasoned with them to pay back the total stay at DanHostel which still leaves me with an extra cost of 1149,4 DKK. At this point, it isn’t even about the money anymore. It’s about running a decent business with ethics and dignity. Everybody makes mistakes, but you cannot not assess your risks and when mistakes are made not take full responsibility. Leaving a guest with any additional cost indicates that the guest carries some of the responsibility, which is such a weird way to make your guests feel. This is one of the most disrespectful, bizarre and unprofessional way I have ever seen anyone run a business. Luckily for the management, we “only” had business meetings the next day. Imagine if we were to catch a plane, if it was winter or if there were crucial medication locked inside the rooms. What would you have done then? To the owners: If you were in this situation, would you accept this treatment? Do you even want to stay a night at your own place? Tldr: Stay anywhere else but at DanHostel. The management clearly does not care about your wellbeing, just your money. They don’t care if you got locked out of your rooms overnight and will avoid as much as they can to take full responsibility. Aarhus has many other price competitive places tostay who actually put in the effort and work to provide their guests a roof over their head and a stressfree stay.

Aarhus Hostet is a self-service Hostel. The building is a former older college, which means we have good common areas, such as large communal kitchen, 2 living rooms and a nice big garden. As well as free parking. Aarhus Hostel is located right between Aarhus and Skanderborg with easy access from the E45. If you are on a bus, it stops right outside the door. Long term rentals (min. 1 month) are available in some of our rooms, located in a department by themselves. In addition to rooms, we have good course and meeting facilities as well as banqueting rooms where you can celebrate birthday parties, weddings, baptisms, confirmations or other occasions. Our large room has full AV equipment as well as music and audio facilities.
Aarhus Hostel has a lot of rooms and the once i saw is in a fine condition and clean. There is a large kitchen area where you can prepare food and eat as a group. The problem we experianced is that there are several visitors from eastern europe that drink to much and get sick in public. Not a good thing for children to see. We also heard a lot of noice from these visitors in the night and it was hard to fall a sleep as they kept us awake. When making management aware of the situation and referencing to their own rules which was not respected there was no consequences and we had to live with the problem. I would never go here again and will warn anybody going to this area to avoid this location.

The hostel is nicely furnished with lovely facilities and of course you and your family as our logging-guest will have the possibility for 'wild' experiences. We work hardly every day - with caring presence - to give the flair of something very special for your stay.
Myself, a friend & our two 6 yr olds visited in September 2017 (the date below doesnt go down to 2017 so ive put the lowest at feb 2018) We were staying in the hotel at the airport & caught the bus direct there. We did the safari around the park, saw the lions lazing after eating meat the day before. We loved walking through the monkey area, & the gorilla had had her baby (which must be 1 & half years old now) . We ate lovely food at thier restaurant, saw amazing animals, lots of clean large areas. Well looked after. Elephants were my friends favourite, & i just loved everything about the whole place. We did go back to Billund in 2018 but the few days we were there the zoo was closed so we didnt manage a second visit. We are planning to visit again this year .

We stayed one night during our motorcycle tour "Denmark lengthwise". Like most hostels, the accommodation here is reasonably priced for Denmark. Parking is outdoor. + Comfortable bed mattresses and pillows + Own newly renovated bathroom + Nice location on a hill - Additional charge for breakfast buffet - ~ 20 min walk to restaurants - Occasionally unattended reception

The reason to stay here should be for the ambiance to have experienced sleeping in a old state prison. Therefore expect a no frill experince as it is much more a hostel tahn a hotel. I would have given it 4 stars if the cleanliness would be better as two of the sheets had visable stains and old hair could be found on all four matresses - I guess thats the full prison experience thus something I could have gone without.

Danhostel Skanderborg welcome all to our hostel located in the middle of a fabulous beech forest. We have a large garden and a beach with a jetty at Skanderborg Lake. Spend time on the shores of Skanderborg Lake in the Lakelands, one of the most beautiful places to rejuvenate the mind and body. Experience the peaceful surroundings of the Lakelands, yet stay close to the town and its many attractions. We provide 16 rooms with private bathrooms and 10 self-contained red log cabins. We have three rooms reserved for meetings and conferences. You or your company can rent the entire hostel if you need a place to speak freely and privately. Come alone or with your family and friends and go fishing, sailing, kayaking, or biking on the many mountain bike trails or go hiking in our famous beech forest. In the middle of the property is our main building - a black log cabin, which was the officers' mess in World War II. We serve a lovely English breakfast each morning. The best thing about Danhostel Skanderborg is the welcome extended to all our guests. Each guest gets great service including a friendly “good morning." This is one of host, Egon Petersen’s, most important rule of thumb after 27 years of service as owner of Danhostel Skanderborg. Skanderborg forms a gateway to the Mid-Jutland Lakelands, one of the most beautiful areas in Denmark. The city is the oldest town in the Lakelands and has a long and interesting history, including that of being a town of the Danish kings. If you walk through the woods, from the hostel, you are just a few km away from the Castle Chapel and the town of Skanderborg. Over the years, Skanderborg has developed into a modern commercial centre with many retail shops, cosy restaurants and cafes, small museums, and a variety of sporting and cultural activities for all ages. Go shopping on the street called Adelgade, or experience Kulturhuset, Skanderborg’s Culture Centre, which overlooks Skanderborg Lake. Two of Denmark’s highest points, Ejer Bavnehøj and Himmelbjerget are about 10 and 20 km respectively from the hostel. With its proximity to the Jutland motorway and railway junction, Skanderborg is also an ideal starting point for excursions to famous attractions throughout Mid Jutland. Our Danhostel is not far from Moesgaard Museum, Givskud Zoo, Aqua in Silkeborg, Randers Tropical Zoo or Golf Club If you are an angler, tourist, student or a family, there is room for you in the deep, quiet forest. This lake is one of the world's best fishing waters with a child-friendly beach in the shallow area nearest to the hostel. Enjoy views of sea eagles, kayaks, red log cabins and the peaceful surroundings. Rent a canoe and sail around the Lakelands. The whole area is dotted with lakes and rivers, where you can fish, swim and sail. Visit Danhostel Skanderborg, experience great service from host, Egon Petersen, and enjoy the town known to host “Denmark's Most Beautiful Festival," a music festival known as Skanderborg Festival or Smukfest.
First of all, the location of this hostel cannot be beat! Skanderborg is absolutely beautiful and staying so close to the water is lovely. The cabins are very comfortable and the hostel has canoes you can borrow to go out on the lake. There are also fire pits for an evening campfire. An absolutely wonderful hostel!

Three women visited this hostel for two nights during the festival of wonder November 2019. Excellent rooms with a beautiful view, great beds, very clean. Close to town. And a wonderful breakfast with homemade breads, jams, Nutella. And a great kitchen where we could make our dinner and lunches. Kind owners and we appreciated every minute of our time. In the summer, we could have even sat outside and enjoyed the nature. We will be back!
