Great location for Alisan morning train
Reviewed By pattp2015Pros: - great location, very close to the train station - 7-11 just a few blocks from the hostel - quite peaceful common area at the basement - very helpful staff, even for non-Chinese speaker like me - cozy, and looks safe because of the good vicinity - in-room hairdryer Cons: - very tiny 4-ppl dorm room, one locker is just enough for a cabin luggage - have to take out ur shoes outside

Decent Place
Reviewed By Phoena SWell what can I complain as this little 'mingshu' is located at a non tourist area? We are glad to have a decent place to sleep at this quaint town of Budai. What I like: the boss and his wife definitely a lovely couple, friendly and understanding. The room is clean and in good size, some rooms have sea view. 'Mingshu' offers bicycle as transport, there is no public transport at this area, not even taxi. We really had such a wonderful time cycling around Budai.I hope they can invest a little bit more on more bikes and the maintenance of it. What I don't like: the stairs are very steep, I wonder why the owner didn't give us a lower floor, as there is only 2 rooms were occupied during our stay? Seaview rooms are quite hot due to facing sunset.

Hot, cramped and few COVID-19 precautions
Reviewed By BayjbThe hostel has a good location near the train station and bus to Alishan. Breakfast is very basic but an option or street food and a 7-11 aren’t far away. Female dorm is incredibly small for a six bed. And next to no storage so your luggage and is literally everywhere in the room with the junk already in the room. En-suite bath is an option but it’s also small and the shower section is almost on top of the sink and toilet. AC is modest in the room but helps as the entire hostel is hot and humid all day and night. Beds are semi comfortable but have privacy curtains which were nice. WiFi is solid in the hostel as well. Despite the hot temps and painfully small rooms, I don’t feel like the hostel took much of any precautions around the COVID-19 virus. Hostel wasn’t really cleaned or disinfected, no real soap outside of the main kitchen sink, only one small bottle of sanitizer for people to spray their hands. And only one staff member wore masks. At every other hostel I’ve stayed at in Taiwan do significantly more to make guests feel comfortable during this challenging time. The hostel is a very good value but I wouldn’t recommend it or return. The lack of precautions with the virus and the cramped hot rooms with no storage are three strikes and you’re out for me

The perfect place to stay!
Reviewed By Corentin NWarmly welcomed and advised, pretty and convenient place and very clean rooms and bathrooms. Next to the train station and not far from all the places you should visit in Chiayi. I really had a nice time, definitely highly recommended!

Then the room is small Then the early house soundproofing was not so good. If you are afraid of noisy people, you should bring your own earplugs. The overall old house atmosphere is full of shape There is also a saloon

comfortable room in central area in Chiayi
Reviewed By CrimsonKookaburraStayed here a few nights as a base for visiting Alishan and the private room was small, but clean and comfortable. There were few other guests there so I had the shared bathroom to myself basically. The hosts were friendly and helpful and had no issues during my stay there. Washing machine and dryer were also free to use which was helpful for long-term travel. It's about a 15 minute walk from the TRA station in Chiayi.

For the LOCATION
Reviewed By RChuaWe stayed at the 2nd property that is located in a residential building at a side street of the night market (the night market is only on ONE street). The unit we stayed is re-constructed to have 5 rooms, with up to 4 beds in every room attached with a bathroom/toilet. In my opinion, the lights in this unit are too dim. The rooms are also very tight for 4 beds. The bathrooms are simple, with shampoo and shower cream provided. One of the rooms has it's bathroom built on the balcony. While the door at the other room's balcony is spoilt. The unit is very old and I can see efforts have been made to make the rooms look pleasant. It seems like they have another unit in the same apartment and the people at the other unit will come over to this unit to refill their water. On the whole, we don't feel very comfortable in this apartment. I had a chat a neighbour one early morning and I am not sure if this property is legally re-constructed or not. The rates is good for the location if you don't mind the condition of the apartment units. If you have higher budget, I think you should look else where.
