Banana homestay was lovely. To sum it up; The rooms were clean, the food (breakfast) was really tasty, the accommodation was not expansive, and the service was overall good. You'll find that the friendly hosts make this homestay truely welcoming.

Thank you for everything Dannu!! I stayed in this fantastic hostel for 2 days and Dannu the owner was so helpful and kind from the beginning. He prepared for me the visit to the Ijen and after that the visit to the Bromo, we had a problem with the transportation to Probbolingo because now it is low season and they didn't have anyone else going there but he solved and after leaving the hostel we kept in touch and he was taking care that everything was nice and easy in my trip. The owner is responsible and great guy and the accommodation was great for the value and close to many nice restaurants in less than 200m. If you are going to Banyuwangi looking for adventure this is your place!!

So incredibly happy about this hostel! The (co-)owner is a wonderful lady that went absolutely above and beyond to get me a driver to Alas Purwo national park. She spent all morning calling and texting just for me. She answered all my questions. I will never forget her help :) The other staff is all lovely too, and I think it's amazing that this place is women-led! I think you can feel it in the vibe of the hostel. The other guests at the time were all nice and open people, many solo travellers and I had some unexpected good conversations. I slept in the new dorm room, and I loved it. No bunk beds but each their own matress on the floor, very private with curtains around, soft matress and I think it slept only four. Location is nice because there are a lot of eating/shopping options around! If I'm ever in Banyuwangi again, I will be here!

The best way to enjoy Banyuwangi is by living in the center of city while you can experience both its local attractiveness and its nature. We are providing a prototype house where you can feel as your own home. You can rent per room start from Rp. 100.000 (AC-Wi Fi-dormitory type) up to Rp. 250.000 (AC-Wi Fi-TV Flat Screen-Inside Bathroom) If you bring family members, will be more efficient if you have rent entire house.
Decided to get trip around Banyuwangi and found this super homey homestay. The owner are humble, she help us to get one-day laundry. All room have ac, the bathrooms are clean and the breakfast are good. So far this was the most friend homestay.

I was recommended to this place on Facebook and had planned to stay there whilst looking for a company to take me to Mt Ijen between yesterday and today. When I arrived yesterday, I was offered the room with air con. The woman, Sandy, I believe, didn’t ask me for any details so i planned to pay them at check out, after I’m back from the mountain and had a shower. I was informed by her too that if I’d go on Mt Ijen with them, I’d have to pay 300k for the trip, which I knew from recommendations was expensive. I told them I’d inform if I’d go on a trip with the homestay guides. I decided, with my room mates to go with a company which charged cheaper (250k) so we didn’t inform them and got to sleep early for an early start at 12am. Then at around 12am, whilst we were half asleep waiting for our van, a man comes storming into our room, shouting at me and the other two girls saying for us to remove all our stuff from the room RIGHT NOW. He had used many swear words and didn’t give us any way to talk back to us. He said we should leave in 10 min as he is the owner of the place and does whatever the f*** he pleases (not sure if he was the owner though). We had to take all our bags to the van that took us to the Mt Ijen, which is really unsafe and inconvenient, and we couldn’t return for a shower. The whole experience was awful and super traumatic - as three women travellers, we felt very unsafe!!! After this terrible experience( I wouldn’t recommend the place to anyone! Of course I have not paid for my night, both because how I was treated and also because I/ my bags didn’t really stay the night!

The hostel itself is nice and new. I stayed in the 18 bedroom dorm room (no others were in it for my 3-night stay), which was extremely spacious. Each bed had an outlet and the mattress was very comfortable. The air-conditioning in the room worked very well, which was nice since it was extremely hot outside. It was also nice that their front desk was staffed 24 hours since I arrived by bus at 1:30 am. There were several Wi-Fi networks and the signal was strong everywhere I was on the property, but I think their internet provider might be quite slow at times. My biggest complaint is that for it being the most expensive hostel I stayed at in Indonesia there were a lot of basic things that should have been in place, especially since it now seemed they were done "building" the place. The dorms do have "lockers" below the beds, but there is no latch to lock them. I was the only person in the room, so I wasn't too worried, but having someplace to lock your valuables is a must for a dormitory, especially one with 18 beds. There is no toilet paper in the bathrooms, even though there are paper holders. The breakfast was also the worst I had at a hostel in Indonesia, just slices of bread, honey, butter, marmalade, and coffee or tea. They also seem really strict on their checkout policy, I wanted to check out 1 hour later since the only air-conditioning is in the room, but they said I had to be out of the room at 12:00. No one even went in to clean it by the time I left an hour later.
