My friend used to live on Awaji Island and this came up on a hotel search. We lucked out and got a super good deal for one night. The room (for 5) was more than roomy for one person. Hotel charges per person, so we each took our own room. The extras were all provided: mini-fridge that actually froze my items when you turn it all the way up, massage tools, hot water in a thermos and a tea set for when you arrive. The thermos kept it warm enough for morning tea as well. Pajamas and robes provided as well as futons in an older traditional japanese hotel. The tatami mats were in great shape as well as a modern flat screen tv. The toilet was the modern japanese throne (warm seat plus flushing music). Slippers for the entry and toilet area provided. The japanese bath was superb with an inside and outside tub. Showers were stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body wash and assorted lotions for when you finish. The sunset was awesome upon arrival and this hotel abuts a lovely pine forest maintained for tsunami control. You can find sea glass on the beach which was the cleaner beach of two we visited. Free Wifi only in the lobby. Lovely place to stay.

Wanted to stay on this beautiful unspoilt side of Lake Biwa. The rooms in the new part of the hotel are large and nicely furnished. The views of the lake are wonderful. The food served for dinner was very good...a different selection for the two nights we stayed but the breakfast was exactly the same! There are no ensuite bathrooms in this hotel (the rooms have a sink and toilet only) so you have to use the public bathing facilities but the hours are not as good as other hotels we have stayed at (until 11pm and then just until 8am in the mornings but breakfast is served until 8 and the checkout time is 10am)There are only 5 or 6 stools for showering so when the hotel is busy this could be a problem. This hotel is at the bottom of the scenic road which closes overnight so it is very quiet. You definitely need a car and the closest convenience store is a good 15 minutes away by car so remember to stock up on anything you need before getting to the hotel (there's a fridge in the room) All in all this hotel is good if you're looking for a quiet location on Lake Biwa and want to drive around from here. The rooms in the modern part of the hotel are nice and well situated for the restaurant on the 2nd floor but it's a little inconvenient for the public bath which is right at the other end of the older part of the hotel and the lack of ensuite rooms might be an inconvenience for some!

As a Government-run hotel that aims to provide affordable accommodation to citizens from all walks of life, this hotel offers everything I have expected- no-frills facilities, slightly run-down decor, satisfactory meals and comfortable hot springs. We picked the "one night, two meals" plan with a dinner featuring local Omi beef. The food did not wow us, but it was all very respectable and indeed quite tasty. Service was quite good too. Unlike other more upscale hotels which only offer "bath tubs" with hot water, the hot spring at this hotel was a genuine one. It was very relaxing and refreshing. Rooms are all located on the first floor with a bit of lake view. While hotel staff did their best to keep the place clean and tidy, it inevitably shows signs of wear and tear. I would not expect more from Government-run hotels tho. I am generally satisfied with my stay, but do hope that free WiFi could be offered the next time I visit!

Opposite the beach where you can sit and watch the sunset. Sounds idyllic. The hotel is very central and great for exploring the region. The rooms are comfortable although they don't have ensuites with toilets only. Can be quite a walk to the baths and dining room after a long days walk. The food and service are excellent with no complaints.
