The best available Farmhouses to stay near Andalucia

April 26, 2023 Karren Gelb

Distinctive architecture, sun-drenched resorts and eclectic small towns dot Andalusia, a dry, mountainous region of southern Spain that maintains echoes of its Moorish occupation. Spring and fall bring balmy temperatures, ideal for visiting Seville's cathedral, the world's largest Gothic structure, and the 1,200-year-old mosque in Córdoba. Romantics love Granada, home to the fortress of Alhambra and an inspiration to the late poet Federico García Lorca. Don't miss a dip in the sea along the Costa del Sol.

This place comes with white table cloth and nice glasses, which creates expectations, of course. The menu adds to this, lots of promising dishes on offer, fish and meat. We went with croquetas as a starter and Pork and beef as mains. Quality was good, but all was served on ice-cold plates in a rather cool room at this time of the year, which cools down the meal really quick. Service was friendly but rather rushed. It felt tome that the potential was not used up.

Cortijo El Pozuelo

Cortijo El Pozuelo is the result of several years of effort, dedication and care of a family to convert a 19th century cottage into a comfortable and charming place, that is now shared with guests and friends who spend some days off in Tarifa. We are situated in a very special location, inside of Parque Natural del Estrecho, by Los Lances beach and one kilometre from the village, in order to enjoy walking on the beach or staying near Tarifa's nightlife without being disturbed if you don't desire. You choose!! We really hope you enjoy your stay in Cortijo El Pozuelo. See you soon!!

A welcoming ans attractive place

Reviewed By Michael-Schinasi

Because we extended our trip we stayed in two rooms at Cortijo El Pozuelo. The first one was very nice and comfortable. The second one was exceptional. It was huge with two easy chairs, a tiled walk-in shower with sprays all around. Both were very clean. This is a "rural dwelling" and it is rustic. But it also combines qualities you will find in a nice hotel. The property is located within steps of a natural area, with a boardwalk that leads you close to the beach and into town. This walk took us about an hour, though if you go faster it might take less. We were not bothered by it because it was a lovely walk with views of the beach. We had a rental car for exploring the area and getting quickly into town and I think this is best. The atmosphere that the owner, Manuel, and his assistant, Sarah, have created is the best thing about the Cortijo. They have really made their house your house. In this day and age of consumerism and giving precedent to the profit motive, it is wonderful to see these young people so open and giving in their hospitality. When you arrive you will be given a key to the common area, a sort of living room, where you can get coffee, croissants and other snacks, fresh eggs from the property itself. Here and all around the property you can sit and lounge. If the internet isn't working well in your room you can always come here and feel right at home. You can cook here, or use the grills outside, or use the microwave/convection oven in the room. Pipa, the owner's dog runs around and happily, invites you to pet her. Tarifa which is close by is young and modern, and Verger de la Frontera, which is 48 km away and worth a day trip is exquisite. The beaches around the area --such as Bolonia--are delightful and the ancient Roman ruins which are a short drive are fascinating. But it is mostly the openness and the welcoming atmosphere of the Cortijo that I come back to. I congratulate the owner and his assistant for his vision for this place.

Pet friendly weekend break.

Hidden away in the woods just a short drive to the beaches and 10 minutes from Conil. The rooms are rustic with the basic furniture and a small bathroom. Everything was clean and the staff very friendly. The garden, which is well maintained, has sun loungers and a small swimming pool. Breakfast is self help and eaten in the front garden area. As there is only one table great for meeting the other guests. It is pet friendly, and there were 6 staying this weekend.

We enjoyed a wonderful weeks break back in Summer 2019 with the girls. The villas are so lovely & well kept; the pool is beautiful & the outdoor entertainment space is fabulous. We made a stop at the supermarket en route and we had no need to leave! Jess is a wonderful host - super friendly & more than happy to provide advice on where to visit in the surrounding area - nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend a stay here - you won't regret it!

Cortijo del Pino

A warm, generous atmosphere rules at these supremely comfortable apartments on an ecological cooperative, a hop from glorious Granada Tranquillity five minutes from Granada, and much character. Kind, artistic Concha and her mother make this place, and their grand old farmhouse, topped with tower and pigeon loft, is hard to resist. The approach is marvellous, the beautiful trees creating a warm, out-of-time atmosphere, and this cooperative's cornfields are ecologically run. The apartments – the nicest two in converted cattle stalls and dairy – are supremely comfortable: one a nest for two, another for six, two for four. There are wood-burning stoves, underfloor heating and charming, well-equipped kitchens with lovely hand-made tiles. Furnishings are antique, the beds a delight; ceilings are high, walls thick and cool. There's no communal space, bar the pool and the large inner patio, and a wide circular path that links the apartments, each with its own furniture

Beautiful retreat from touring Spain's cities

Concha's farm house was the most wonderful place to start our days and end them while touring Granada and taking road trips - so relaxing and beautiful. El Cortijo del Pino (built in 1873) is authentically rustic and we were surprised to find the 2-story apartment so new & stylish with big windows, modern kitchen and a huge bathroom. Breakfast and dinner on the private patio/terrace was very relaxing with the only noises being farm animals and birds. The pool is big and clean and we really enjoyed swimming. We could not believe our luck in being able to stay here. One thing to note - the stairs are steep to get to the apartment and between floors in it. It was no problem to us but some might have a hard time of it. (I noticed Concha does have other rooms without stairs. ) Also the first time you drive there it is a little confusing because the road is dirt and veers off to the right like a driveway off the main road. We highly recommend Concha's place!

We visited Cortijo La Hoya for a second year in a row and returned to London feeling totally regenerated. If you love nature and want to chill this is the place to visit. The garden is beautiful with spectacular views over the Straits of Gibraltar. We loved the infinity pool and the company of the charming dogs. There is a Lidl in Tarifa which was useful. Cadiz and Gibraltar are an easy drive from the property and you can also get the ferry to Morocco from Tarifa which is just twenty minutes away. Rafa was always on hand to give us advice on the local area. We look forward to returning again.
