A mixture of forested mountains, alpine peaks, wildflower meadows, deep river canyons, and high plains deserts, Idaho is a paradise for golf, skiing, fly fishing, and river rafting. Boise, the capital, is the state's largest city and airline hub. North of Boise are golf, lake, and ski resorts from McCall in the south to Sandpoint and Coeur D'Alene in the north. East of Boise are the ski slopes of Ketchum and Sun Valley. East of Sun Valley are Craters of the Moon National Monument, Pocatello, Idaho Falls, and the small town of Island Park just across the border from Yellowstone National Park. Boise's Basque Museum and Cultural Center reflects having the largest Basque population in the U.S. Reflecting Idaho's diverse heritage, near the Idaho Historical Museum in Boise's Julia Davis Park is the Idaho Black History Museum's chronicle of the slave York who served the Lewis & Clark Expedition. After a family visit to the Peregrine Fund's World Center for Birds of Prey and an outdoor performance at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, the next stop after Boise is likely to be Payette Lake in McCall or Sun Valley and Ketchum. About 100 miles north of Boise, past Cascade Lake, McCall takes you to the shores of Payette Lake. Go golfing, fishing, hiking, biking, waterskiing, sailing, boating, or whitewater river rafting. Ski or snowshoe Brundage Mountain or Tamarack Resorts, as well as Ponderosa State Park in winter. Ice skate year-round at Manchester Ice & Event Centre. About 450 miles north of Boise, there are resort lakes near skiing and golf at Coeur d'Alene, Hayden Lake, and Sandpoint. Golf, tennis, mountain biking, hiking, fishing, rafting, and hunting are popular in Sun Valley and Ketchum. Sockeye salmon may no longer do much spawning in Redfish Lake, but the boating and mountain scenery in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area make the short trip north to Stanley worthwhile. When the snows come the whole family will head for the slopes of Soldier Mountain, Bald Mountain, Dollar Mountain, or the Sun Valley Resort. A tiny forested town of about 250 people, Island Park has a large reservoir with fishing and boating, as well as Henry's Fork of the Snake River for fly fishing. It's only 15 miles from Yellowstone as well.

This place is absolutely beautiful. Can we even go so far as to say it is magical? The cozy atmosphere and sweet antiques in this place add to what I call "the experience". This is not just a place to stay. You will feel relaxed, rested, and find that you have made unexpected friends (! even in this day and age!) with dogs and people here. For those with small children, the dogs loved my toddler, and she loved them! There is an unspoken code that when you stumble upon this place, you are welcome to join the group discussion on the porch. The owners and employees here are so welcoming and open for a chat with a lonely traveler. An outdoor fire pit, rope swing, and hammocks all add to the feel of the place. You can even walk down some steps to the river as this place is on the river bank. A 5 minute walk down the road will lead you to a fabulous Thai restaurant. Thank you for an unforgettable visit! We will be back!

Just took a solo trip back to Moscow, Idaho to enjoy the idyllic surroundings and visit friends. What a perfect place to stage my retreat! Paradise View Bed and Breakfast offers such a lovely, quiet, gracious setting with a view worthy of Paradise for sure! Lynne and Mike were perfect hosts, my room was quiet and beautifully appointed. Breakfasts were delicious and fresh eggs from the chickens who also call this home were a bonus! I highly recommend this wonderful B&B and hope that I can return there soon as well!

Located 17 Miles from West Entrance to Yellowstone National Park. Rental Cabins with Beautiful views on the Mountains included Kitchenettes that sleep up to 6. All Cabins are located on ATV & Snowmobile Trails. The Fly Shop offers full guided fly fishing trips into Yellowstone Park.
My hubs and I stayed at The Drift Lodge for 3 nights. We paid a reasonable fee for a half cabin. It’s absolutely beautiful. Has everything we need for a short stay. I would recommend a full size cabin if you are staying 4 or more nights or traveling with lots of luggage or more than 2 people. We got all we need. MiniFridge with freezer, microwave. Direct Tv!!! We purchased plastic bowls, forks and spoons. Seems this room was not equipped with those items. We have a small but comfortable bathroom with walk in shower. This room was super clean!!! You have access to charcoal grill and fire pit. For the money you cannot find a better comfort. I recommend this place. The only drawback is my cabin faced the Highway so road noise was my only concern. This is a lodge not a five star hotel. Honestly I give it 4 stars out of five only because of the road noise. We will definitely come here again if we could. We are visiting Yellowstone National Park. A bucket list trip. For the negative reviews you read. Anyone who post negative comments really ought to consider staying Inn West Yellowstone and pay premium prices. The drift Lodge is a long drive from west Yellowstone but if you penny pinching, the value is fantastic. No pics cause my room has been lived in if you know what I am saying.

The hostess, Sahara, was the greatest. She truly made us feel at home, like one of the family Extremely accommodating, flexible, and caring. Did all to make our stay pleasant and relaxing. Even provided an evening snack which was not supposed to be included. The bed had its own attached bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub. The breakfast offered fresh blueberry pancakes, boiled eggs, yogurt, cereals, bagels, coffee, tea, juices and more. The bucolic, remote location allowed a rural, agricultural setting for the beautiful, log cabin style home. The view was wonderful, the quietness most refreshing, A wonderfully, lovely stay. Do be aware that this is a bed and breakfast not a hotel. It is not suitable for wheelchair access.

The Flying B was a nice stop on the river but they cram many people into single cabins. If you like the hostel experience, then you will like the B. If you like privacy, pitch a tent. The food and clubhouse were nice. The shower house was nice. The beds were very old, sagging, and uncomfortable.

Tamarack Resort is a struggling (read, failed)"high end" development in Donnelly. There is a ski hill and a golf course. The golf course is wonderful well cared for and in a spectacular setting. However, the Lodge leaves a bit to be desired. The room had no housekeeping and there was no food service at the "resort" or the Lodge and it is 8 miles in to Donnelly where there are good restaurant choices. The ski hill was closed for some years but open the last three. Unknown what the skiing will be this winter. If you enjoy excellent golf then you'll probably like this setting- just don't expect much service. The room was clean and well appointed.
