Land of Mermaids. Land of Orange and Lemon Groves. Land of Colors. This small city in Campania has earned a plethora of alluring names. Famed for its sea cliffs, the town's steep slopes look out over azure waters to Ischia, Capri and the Bay of Naples. The birthplace of Limoncello liqueur offers some good diving, great sea fishing, boat cruises and appetizing restaurants. Excellent hiking trails cross the peninsula. Rent a car or take a taxi if the steep streets look too intimidating.

We had several problems right from the beginning: - we’ve spoken with them on booking messenger that we were going to arrive at 3 pm and they confirmed it was ok. We arrived at 3:10 and no one was there or answeared on the phone. At 3:30 they sent a message that they would arrive in 5 and they come in 15..so we had a 40 min wait in front of the door with a 4 yo tired little boy. They were smiling as nithig happened. - the hair dryer was broken. It had the cover of the fan missing and I caught my hair inside, forcing me to cut the entire piece of hair, close to the roots. This is very dangerous! - The mirrors on the wall are not properly fixed and it has almost fallen on my son. Luckily, I caught it in the air. This is also extremely dangerous!!! - The faucet from the bathroom was also broken. Every time we washed our hands, the water was splashed everywhere, making an entire mess both in the bathroom and then in the room, because we hadn’t had a mop. This problem applied for all the faucet, but this was the most annoying. Probably it had to be opened and cleaned by the liitle stones deposit! - We noticed them all these problems, but no one answeared. - The room was not properly cleaned. - The electric wires in the bathroom looked dangerous. - The noise of the traffic was terrible during the night. Just 1-2 hours of silence/night. - we paid on cash at our arrival and they didn’t returned our deposit until my husband requested it back. Moreover, after this, they canceled the booking, even we were in our 3rd day there. It is not clear if they did it to avoid our review or to avoid booking taxes.

Relais Mirage had a mix of good and bad; overall, not too bad. On the plus side, the location is great (5-10 min walk from central Sorrento, but nice and quiet!), the staff were lovely, and bed was pretty comfortable. The view over the bay from the breakfast room is an absolute doozy. On the minuses, the hot water and water pressure was a tad temperamental; I ended up having at least a couple of cold showers! On one of the mornings, we’d agreed on an early(ish) breakfast for 7.30am, and there were still no staff at 7.45am so we had to leave without breakfast. However, the hotel staff were otherwise a really helpful; one guy had to access our room to fix the hot water, and gave us a bottle of wine for our trouble! We weren’t there during summer, so I don’t know if these things are ironed out during high season. Either way, not too bad.
