Welcome to a capital city whose story goes back at least 3000 years. In Beijing, you'll find a wealth of history, both ancient (the Hall of Preserving Harmony, Summer Palace, Forbidden City) and more recent (Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, Tiananmen Square). For the best market experience, choose the Dirt Market over the touristy Silk Market. A visit to the Great Wall, the longest manmade structure in the world, is absolutely essential.

Two-night stay in November 2020, two adults and three children. Stayed in a two bedroom deluxe apartment. As a Bonvoy status member, inquired at check-in about an upgrade to an executive apartment, was told the executive side of the hotel had a group of government workers and that we would be better off on the other side of the hotel. "Very noisy group", the lady at check-in said. OK. Seemed like we were the only foreigners in the hotel, was called about 30 minutes after check-in and questioned on why we were in China/Beijing. Had to go back down to the front desk and I had to prove to them that we were in China legally. When I questioned this why we were being asked, they dodged the reason for this. They did find my answers and documents in order and let the issue go. Strange that we were questioned, as I've stayed at at least 5 other Beijing hotels in the last year and have never been hassled like this before. Room was nice and big, not brand new, but still very nice and modern. Older TVs, but decent channel selection. My children enjoyed the rooms and there was definitely room to spread out. Breakfast is catered for local Chinese guests, but still enough there for my family. Nothing great, but passable. One quirk... The room had four bottles of complimentary water. I called the front desk and asked for a few more bottles of water. At first, they said they would send some up, but then she asked me how many bottles I had, and I told her. She said that was the daily limit. I told her that seemed strange, especially since we were 5 people in the room. She said they could send up more for 5 rmb per bottle. Instead, my kids went and grabbed some 5 liter bottles from the Family Mart next door. Was not upset that we had to pay for water next door, but thought it a bit strange that they had such a strict water policy. When you are paying over $300 a night, 4 small bottles for 5 people? It felt the hotel was not accustomed to foreign tourists and gave us some pretty bad advice. We stayed at this particular hotel to visit the Forbidden City, about a 15 minute walk from the hotel. At check-in, we spoke with both the desk agent and one of the managers, and inquired about how to go to and get tickets at the Forbidden City. They told us to just walk over there and purchase tickets at the ticket counter. We spent 20 minutes walking over there, more than an hour to get through the security check. When we arrived at the ticket counters the next morning, they told us tickets must be booked in advance and only purchased using WeChat. Spent another 40 minutes at the ticket counter to learn that tickets are NOT sold at the ticket counters, only ID verification is done at the site. While we do have a WeChat account, the only tickets available were for the following week. So OUR fault for not checking this online prior to our trip to Beijing. BUT it was upsetting that they did not know or failed to tell us that we needed tickets in advance. The hotel markets itself as a great gateway to the Forbidden City, but they were not up-to-date on access and ticket information for the site. So rooms are nice, service is spotty. Having a room this large in Beijing is nice, but as a Marriott that does market itself as an international hotel for international visitors, they need to work a little harder. We've stayed at multiple hotels in Beijing for work, the other Marriotts and luxury hotels are nicer and more accustomed to foreign travelers. But we would stay here again, the rooms are big and we are a big family. However, I wouldn't rely on the hotel staff for help on any tourist issues.

Stayed here for business. It is an ok place. As always in China, staff are extremely helpful, gracious and kind. The reception staff speak “sort of” English, so it is feasible to communicate. The hotel is attached to a tiny mall for those interested. There are a few restaurants in the mall, but no stores of interest to me. There is a Starbucks around the corner, which is great. Rooms are nondescript, fairly small, but functional and super clean. Hotel is a bit dated. Overall, an ok hotel.

Stayed 4 nights at this property. While they are not in downtown Beijing, it is within 15 minutes walk to 2 subway stations and is only a few.stops away from downtown. Our room was large and comfortable. The gym is also well equipped with treadmills, ellipticals and bikes. There is also a good selection of weights training, including free weights. There is also.an indoor pool next to the gym. What impressed us most was their service. Staff were friendly and attentive.

Booked by colleague to try out this easy & designed small hotel. Rooms are not spacious but neat & simple yet still designed. Courtyard is very comfortable. Breakfast area is cozy & breakfast is simple but ok. Location is quite good but hide inside the small residence area, yet gives you the “local life” taste. Service isn’t pro but the attitude is good. Mosquitos are bothering me in the first day.

The connected mall offered lots of shopping. The Butcher Shop resturaunt on floor 6 was very good. Excellent burgers, potatoes, wings, fries and steak.

I have lived in one of Oakwood's serviced one-bedroom apartments for four months now, and I am a happy resident. The staff is friendly and helpful. The apartment is roomy and well equipped. You can literally move in with a suitcase full of clothes, and the all the rest that you need is already in the apartment. Hotel amenities like a good gym, breakfast buffet, laundry service and a well staffed reception adds value. The location is also good, on the northern outskirts of the Sanlitun neighbourhood, close to the city center but still in a calm area. I can highly recommend this place, both for a short and a long stay.

The room was huge - living room, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen area and a balcony (with a view to the inner ward). A lot of restaurants and shopping close by. The closest metro station is 5min walk away and it's about 25min walk to the Tiananmen square. Nice staff. Free wi-fi. I don't think that the hotel is very new but it's clean and comfortable.

This was a comfortable apartment with a nice bathroom and soft (and clean) bed. It is a keyless entry so is easy to get into and you don't really need to deal with anyone. We did not receive or need passes for the security gates. The security guys gave us a guest pass each time. An unexpected bonus: there is a small international market right outside the community full of all kinds of goodies (wine, beer, ice cream, snacks, real food, etc). The one downside is that it is about a fifteen minute walk to the train/bus station. Once you're at that station, it's convenient to get anywhere, including the correct bus to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, but it takes a bit to get there.
