The best available Campgrounds to stay near Sogn og Fjordane

April 29, 2023 Marlin Saiz

Rich in mountains, islands, glaciers, farmlands and fjords, Sogn og Fjordane is best known for Sognefjord, the longest in Norway and the second-longest in the world. One of its arms, Nærøyfjord, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as is the 12th-century Urnes Stave Church near Lustrafjorden, an excellent example of traditional Scandinavian wooden architecture. Jostedalsbreen, the largest glacier on mainland Europe, is home to a national park with several museums and visitor centers.

Oldevatn Camping

Oldevatn Camping is set idyllically by Lake Oldevatn, surrounded by steep mountains and glaciers. When the snow melts the lake changes to a distinctive turquoise colour that our guests never have seen before. Oldevatn Camping achieved a 4 star classification in 2003, the same year that we built a new sanitary building. The sanitary building is well maintained and appears as new. Our main focus is service and cleanliness. It’s also important for us to have activities for all ages. We have lots of activities, for example a watertrampoline, SUP, rowboat, peddleboat, canoes, hiking and bicycles. We sell fishing licenses and fishing equipment in the reception. All activities except fishing are of course free of charge for our guests. The reception has a small selection of groceries. We have fresh bread and rolls every morning, just come by the day before to order it. We have highspeed internet on the entire campsite.

Bedbugs

Bedbugs in the cabin. We are bitten all over. We had to wash all our clothes that we brought. Manager booked us a hotel for the rest of our stay. I would have given 5 stars if this didn't happen, but this experience really sucks. I have even bite marks in my face!

Pleasant caravan site

Reviewed By GillianH52

This is a very pleasant place to stop for a night or two. On the water in beautiful « Oldendal» and just 20 minutes from the «Briksdal» glacier. With a number of viking trails accessable directly from the campsite. The facilites were clean though a little outdated and the camp was a little cramped. We would have given them 5 if not for this. The owners are pleasant and helpful. They have a selection of kajaks and boats that you can borrow free of charge. You can also rent an electric minicar for local trips.

Cool place!

Reviewed By hor-pop

The cabins were warm and cosy. The bathroom was very clean, modern and well-equipped. We also had breakfast which was all right. But the coolest thing about this place was the view, the lake and the quiet village of Hafslo. The place is accessible from bigger cities such as Sogndal. Buses leave right in front of the accommodation so there is no need to worry about the transport. Bus drivers were very excited to help us, thumbs up ?

Stayed here for two days while visiting some friends. Amazing facilities, always clean and you can shower as long as you want. Hands down the best facilities I’ve come across at a Norwegian camping spot. Great value. The spot is fairly close to the city centre and shops/groceries. Would recommend this place.

Comfortable cabins in outstanding nature

Reviewed By lupasrou

The cabin was warm, cozy and comfortable and it had all you needed for a short or long stay. The natural surroundings of the cabin are amazing and it’s very special that tiny pine trees are growing on the vegetated roofs. I loved that!! Don’t miss the impressive waterfall nearby. The amenities were clean and accessible. I will surely book again here if I’m in the area. Ottar, the person who runs the place was very friendly and welcoming.
