Our group has been going to Lakewood Lodge for many, many years and we visited again this May. With the new owners (Preston & Aimee) we weren't completely sure what to expect- given the new crew- however we found things to be as great as we could have hoped for. They do a fantastic job, and give a lot of great attention to the smaller (but important) items- such as a wide variety of bait being available onsite for their renters. They frequently checked on us to ensure we had everything we needed, and that we were enjoying our trip as much as we could. With any needs that we had- they reacted quickly and took care of anything that came up. The fishing was great, and we really enjoyed our time on the water yet again. We didn't leave Sand Lake this year- but even with the wind on a couple of days- we didn't need to given the way the lake is shaped, there is always fishable area where you can escape to. The power on the docks was reliable, and the dock area was well protected for our 3 boats. We even took the time this year to start ourselves a fire during one of the afternoons to give ourselves a break from the boat- which was very enjoyable. The owners had plenty of wood available for sale for us, and they even offered to deliver it to our cabin site so we didn't have to carry it. Overall a great experience, and highly recommended.

Bowen Lodge is a premier lake resort in northern Minnesota, located where the mighty Mississippi River forms Lake Winnibigoshish. Fondly known as Winnie, Big Winnie or Lake Winnie, it is a fisherman’s dream—a walleye factory that never quits. Picture yourself on a northern Minnesota fishing lake with hundreds of miles of pristine shoreline, an endless sky of dazzling stars, a comfortable cabin nestled in the majestic northwoods. The only morning alarm is the call of the loon and your own eagerness to hit the water. That's what you will experience at Bowen Lodge. Bowen's has become an established fishing and family resort destination for generations of people. Although now a modern and comfortable resort, we still maintain an atmosphere of Minnesota wilderness, complete with blue-ribbon fishing opportunities. Throughout the years, many have known us as their one and only Lake Winnibigoshish and Cutfoot Sioux get-away in the Northland.
We recently spent 4 days at Bowan Lodge and we can't emphasize enough how wonderful the people were! We were celebrating our 60th wedding anniversary and they did everything to make our stay very special. Our cabin was very clean and comfortable with everything we needed. It is such a peaceful and beautiful place to relax and fish.

It's where the fun beings, making memories since 1916. Cut Foot Sioux Resort known as “Fisherman’s Paradise” is over 100 years old making it a favorite destination for fishermen. Our resort is nestled in the heart of Chippewa National Forest located on Little Cut Foot Sioux Lake with direct access to Big Cut Foot Sioux and Lake Winnibigoshish which are recognized as some of Minnesota’s top fishing lakes. With a combined 70,000 acres of water, there are tremendous multi-species fishing opportunities. Walleye, Northern, Muskie, Bass, Jumbo Perch, Crappie, Bluegills and Sunfish can all be readily caught here.
The family that owns the resort are really nice and helpful . The rental boat was excellent. The accommodations were cozy. Location on 3 lakes and river connecting them all. Had a nice walk in the National Forest across the River and Hwy. Don't forget to hire one of the boys for a guided fishing trip, can book 1/2 day or a full day.

Cedarwild Resort is a family-friendly nature spot with many possibilities. Great fishing on two lakes with 500' of dock for easy access. But when not fishing there are a host of activities in and out of the water. The Cedarwild salt water swimming pool is maintained with exceptional clarity and cleanliness with very few added chemicals. Our eleven clean cabins all have well maintained screened porches which provide for a very comfortable family experience. Our natural ambience can not be duplicated.
Cedarwild has been our yearly family trip since I was little. For 30 years now we have barely missed a week. I as a child and now my children love this place. We love everything about it. Mostly that we just get to put our normal busy lives on hold and just enjoy being with each other. What once started as a family of 5 and 1 cabin,30 years ago. Is now a family of 16 and 4 cabins.

My father and I have been going to Canada every year along with my wife and a few friends. This year, due to the border being closed, we had to cancel. So we improvised. My sisters and their spouses, along with my wife and me took my parents back to the lake we went to as kids, Bowstring. We had stayed at a few resorts over the years, but never Trails End. They had cabins available for the week we needed, so we booked. We had an amazing time! Bill and Erin run a top grade resort. They take pride in Trails End and it shows. As Erins brother Ben said, you arrive as guests and leave as friends. It couldn’t be more true! I highly recommend Geigers Trails End resort for your next vacation.

On Sand Lake (5000+ Acres), We Specialize In Great Fishing & The Family Vacation Experience. We Are Located In The Chippewa National Forest In Deer River, Minnesota.
We had a wonderful time at this well organized resort on Sand Lake. The beach area was well designed and comfortable. The mega raft was fun. The location on the lake gave a nice view, but was protected enough to avoid strong wind. The beach was moderately weedy and had these snails that could cut tenderfeet like my own. The cabins were nice, though the aluminum siding on some of them wasn't too rustic. The lake had nice tree growth and was only 20% developed. The fishing was terrible, not just for us but for all boats. That may have been because the weather was intensely hot during our week. The owners were flexible and helpful. Overall solid resort.

This is the nicest resort we have stayed at. It rained hard right before we got there making the fishing hard to figure out but by day 3 we had it figured out. Cody the owner is a hard worker and is really updating everything . If you bring your own boat you have lots of other lakes to fish also my brother killed walleye on big Winnie and bow string lakes we mostly caught perch and northern. We did have a lady catch a 3 inch Muskie . He was promptly returned to fight another day. The pool looked very nice and the kids in the group enjoyed it. Also they enjoyed hand scooped ice cream on my dollars lol . Oh the joy of being a kid . Would recommend for a family vacation it’s a nice place and atvs are allowed so you can bring them . Trails to ride to the restaurant and mini mart a half mile away.

George and Jean are VERY friendly hosts and the cabins are well maintained. Fishing on Bowstring is some of the best I have experienced. We found a crappie hole and filled the well with slabs, we were throwing back ones we would normally keep on other lakes. Rental rates are very fair. The ONLY drawback is the boat launch/docking situation but I have run in to that many times and it's not worth lowering the rating of this review. Their launch will not accommodate large boats and the only one that will is on the opposite end of the lake. If you are picky about your launch or have a deep hull boat, allow 45-60 minutes for launching and loading. Also expect to be asked to move your boat to a mooring buoy each night (bring waders) as George does not want any boats left tied to the dock overnight.

My husband fishes all the time up there. Right next door are some great 4 wheel trails. They keep the pool and cabins clean. Fishing on Winnie has been a little slow this year but is slow in quite a few lakes in Minnesota this year. We will continue to patronize this resort. Yes the owners might be a little crusty but they are really just big teddy bears and you just need to talk to them to see this.
