We are glad to welcome our guests at Pendjari Lodge, an Eco-Lodge located on the heart of Pendjari National Park, in Benin. The lodge is based on a hill from where you will enjoy the view of the Park and on the mare where many animals are coming, a nice place to appreciate sun downer or early breakfast. During the day, you can enjoy a swim in our infinity swimming pool facing the park. Our eco-Lodge is equiped with solar panel and water drill, because for us it is very important to preserve the nature. The Lodge has 12 Tents and Bungalows, equiped with all furnitures in order to accommodate you with the best comfort. You will be able to appreciate the wildlife from your private terrace.
We spent one night here in bungalow 5. While the AC was a nice idea, the huge open screen made it rather ineffective. Also the room was infested with spiders, and was a long walk from the only restaurant. The wifi only worked in the restaurant area and was extremely slow. There is no hot water. The food was decent, with a small, daily menu of a few options. Staff were ok, but generally seemed to be kinda miserable. Its fine for a short stay a long long distance from civilization.

Mathias is a very nice and accommodating guy, who apparently runs the most successful business in Grand Popo. We personally thought the rooms are too simple, but the vibe of the place is amazing, food is good and Mathias takes you on the most interesting tour of the area to the lagoon created by the mono river where it meets the ocean. You get to see the fishermen villages on the beach, experience a bit of the lagoon life and eat fresh crabs, fish and shrimps. You also might be lucky to witness Mathias' baby project of protecting sea turtles. All in all it was a nice day. One note - do haggle with Mathias on the price - the original price he asks for the trip is way too expensive (so we felt).

I was on my way from Lome to Cotonou, when a friend told me to make a one day stop at Grand Popo. It was a week since than and I still don't want to leave! The place is built like a tropical beach with coconut trees, bamboo huts and hammocks. The impressive thing is that everything is really authentic here. It is not just made for tourists to get an impression of relaxed life. The chiefs here also invite their friends and do something like a African jamming session. For the price of 7000frances(12€) per night you get a bamboo hut with a bed a mosquitoe-net and a shower. Hermann, the chief of the place and his partner Marq are really smooth with any needs you have and he makes a great tour to a voodoo village and the mangroves. He also speaks good English, which is really good if you are a German with a lack of French skills.... If you are looking for a place where you can chill out in total peace and relax, I can only recommend Victor's place. (ran by Hermann) if you are looking for basic luxury hotels like everywhere else in the world, just go to the other places!

We spent 4 days at "Au Jardin Helvetia" and we loved the place. The bungalows are cosy with nice furniture. Bungalows are cleaned every day. They are situated in a nice garden. The beach and the surroundings are beautifull. It is difficult to imagine that you are so close to Cotonou and the airport. No traffic at all. The restaurant was good, service o.k. The owners and the staff are very nice and make you feel at home. We have very good memories about this place and we can recommand it. Anne-Marie de Swart
