The Spice House, Mirissa is a beautiful Colonial style guesthouse with its own private swimming pool set in a peaceful, landscaped garden full of tropical flowers, fruits, spices, ponds & hammocks. It is ideally situated only one minute from a beautiful, reef protected bay & 1km from the main bustle of Mirissa beach. The guesthouse is English owned by an experienced traveller and his Sri Lankan Wife which allows us to offer our guests the perfect mix of Western comfort & luxury alongside Sri Lankan charm & service - we like our guests to feel like part of the family. The house is shaded by coconut palms & cinnamon trees to the front while the back is terraced which allows wonderful views over the surrounding jungle. Local wildlife is often seen in our garden with daily visits from monkeys, kingfishers, peacocks, woodpeckers & squirrels. We can also help with Airport transfers & booking whale watching trips during the season (November - April).
Overall we had a nice stay at the Spice House. On arrival our bags were taken to our rooms for us. The house is set in a beautiful jungle area with amazing pools just off the main road of Marissa - the main beach is roughly a 10 minute or less walk. One thing that I would make people aware of is that the Spice House is made up of multiple properties spanning across a few areas of land. This wasn’t a major issue but I thought worth mentioning that you might not be staying at the main house if you book here. We stayed in the ginger room which was lovely and one of the more recent builds on the property. The house was accessible via a back road which was helpful (however coming back in the evening at night there were a number of stray dogs which were fine but a little unnerving for my girlfriend - these dogs are also found across most of Sri Lanka and are almost all of the time calm). The room was great, location was excellent (not to close / not too far) and the breakfasts and hospitality were also really positive.

We stayed for two nights last month as our honeymoon stay and it was such a wonderful experience. The buttler system they use helps to keep things familier. Our buttler Mr. Malith was very informative and helpful in every aspect. The food was fantastic and fresh everytime and we recommend that you opt for a full board stay if you're not planning to go out. Overall the stay was perfect in all aspects. Will definitely re-visit when we get the chance.

Built atop a cliff overlooking the beautiful hill capital of Sri Lanka, Fox Kandy by Fox Resorts offers picturesque views of the verdant hills and mountains that blanket the horizon. Our cosy private retreat promises a blissful escape from the excitement of city life. Perfectly positioned, the resort is a convenient base from which to explore the region’s famed attractions, such as the Temple of the Toooth, the Peradeniya Gardens and the Spice Gardens.
Good : Beautiful hotel. Very well designed - the rooms, facilities, pool and dining areas are in great locations. The whole complex is clean and very well maintained. Our food was mostly very good. The staff are wonderful and can’t do enough for you. The hotel is up a very steep hill so you do need a driver to take you anywhere. Not so good : They need a good welcome introduction to introduce themselves and give details about the hotel. We were very disappointed to have staff go through our bin and then charge us for wine that we had bought. The hotel does not have a liquor license so cannot offer a alcohol menu. On our first night, we asked for some wine and were charged around £17 per bottle. The following day, we took our own and the staff went through our bins and charged us for what we had bought. We didn’t feel this was acceptable at all. Overall, it is a very good hotel. If they can offer a welcome introduction and also change their alcohol situation then it would be much better.

A unique location where you can relax, in true hill-country style bungalow and Eco friendly colonial style boutique hotel. The climate is rated as one of the best in Sri Lanka - cool evenings and warm days offer a respite from the heat of the coastal resorts and is enjoyed by many Sri Lankans as well as foreign visitors. We are high up here at 1000 meters surrounded by the vast panoramas of the Ella Gap. Karandagolla is slightly lower down than the cooler tea gardens of Badulla giving us a more tropical air and richer variety of exotic plants and fauna. There is much wild country to explore on foot. "Cooking course in our own kitchen" Many and varied excursions can be arranged. The more active may engage with nature by climbing Little Adams Peak or visiting our local organic tea plantation. Alternatively you can just chill out and enjoy the fine food and comfort of the 'Bungalow', sip chilled drinks on the verandah of an evening, stroll in the grounds or slump in a hammock!
Beautiful rooms, lovely view and great hospitality. They looked after us exceptionally well. The food was delicious and the chef made modifications to suit our taste. portions were generous. The prices of food, beverages and laundry were very reasonable! This place is away from the touristy Ella just the way we wanted it. it was also cool to see the troop of monkeys that regularly visit. Getting to Ella town is easy- they even have their own rickshaw! Would strongly recommend it!

Our hosts Mr. Pathi and his wife, the lady of the house Suba, were an amazing couple, they made us feel like family. The food we had in Sri Lanka, Mrs. Suba is an excellent cook, that even gave me cooking classes, which meant a lot to me. Hantana House is nestled on a hill away from the noise of the busy centre, surrounded by nature it was serene. Clean rooms and great hospitality, we would totally recommend staying here on your visit to Kandy. Mr. Pathi, has been in the tourism industry for over 25 years, and the stories and advice for our trip was valuable. We are truly looking forward to coming back, as they started our Milk and Honey addiction too ?

We had the luck to stay in this tiny but lovely place by the beginning of May 2022. There are only 3 rooms, and let me say, this place is AMAZING, same with service . The room (cabana or tree house) we had (for 4 people) is spacious, very clean, and very well maintained. Thumb up for the welcome drink and for the extra service they provided us! E.g. driver for the 5 days trip. Compared to all other places we have been, this was the best one!

This hotel is amazing. The views are breathtaking. The rooms are large and comfortable. Great air conditioning. Great proximity to the town of Ella and places to see. But what’s best is the customer service. The staff is incredible. I have a great example: I accidentally left something in the room that was very important to me. But I didn’t realize I lost it until I left. (I live in America). I contacted the hotel and they found my lost item. And they offered to ship it to me. Luckily my driver in Sri Lanka was about to drive through Ella so I was able to coordinate with this hotel to have my driver pick it up and then he got it to be back in America. This was absolutely amazing. This hotel went above and beyond. I highly recommend this hotel.

Located amidst a fairy tale atmosphere comprising lush greenery, gorgeous tea plantations, chilly misty climate, crystal clear waterfalls and hillside hideaways; Hotel Morning Dew is the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle in your busy life.
if you come to Ella, you MUST stay in this hotel! Amazing views, pool, food, room, staff, everyting! You can order breakfast from the special breakfast menu and everything we tried was very tasty. We enjoyed other meals aswell and always had great service with great food. You must meet especially Mr. Ajith who is the heart of this hotel. He had the best stories, trip advices, recommendations and we became good friends with him in four days! He really makes everything for you to have a perfect stay in there and it wouldn’t be the same without him. With love: Niina and Minna from Finland ?
