A short distance from Edinburgh is a landscape strewn with sturdy hill forts, ancient castles and ruined abbeys that hints at the tumult of the past. It's quite at odds with the picturesque rolling, if windswept, sheep-studded hills and quiet valleys that make all seem agreeably placid to today’s visitor. At its heart are the ruins of four medieval abbeys with Jedburgh, the most complete, the best to visit first for its insights into monastic life. Of the others, Melrose is both the pick of the bunch, and also close to Abbotsford, the sometime home of the Romantic novelist Sir Walter Scott, and a splendid receptacle for his engrossing collection of historical curios. There are fine country houses to visit, notably Mellerstain for its exquisite Robert Adam interiors, and Manderston, the enjoyable swan song of the Edwardian Country House. Anglers should note that the River Tweed is also one of Scotland’s finest salmon-fishing rivers.

Award winning hotel & restaurant; comfortable country accommodation overlooking the village green of Swinton, Scottish Borders. Winner of Luxe Best Dog Friendly Accommodation 2019
Swindon is by far anything from a swinging or lively village. But for a stay to venture out the surrounding attractions it's an ideal place. The hotel/pub/restaurant is privately owned and cared with lots of love. The meals are very good. The winelist is not grant, but everybody finds a good bottle. Breakfast was served at the table and freshly made. The menu was limited, but ok. We surely can reccomend this place, though I would give it a 3* Plus but not a 4*.

Centrally located in the Scottish Borders on A698 between Jedburgh and Hawick in the picturesque village of Denholm. This stunning Country Inn overlooking the village green offers quality accommodation, good food, cask ale, restaurant, bar snacks and beer garden. The Auld Cross Keys Inn was built in the 1800's as a bakehouse but later became a Coaching Inn. An ideal location for simply exploring the Scottish Borders with an abundance of activities easily accessible such as golfing, fishing, shooting, deer stalking, walking, cycling and motorbiking. Renowned locally and from afar for excellent food, accommodation and the best hospitality you could wish for! A well stocked bar offering cask ale, Guinness, over 40 malt whiskies and 20 gins which can be enjoyed in the popular public bar, cosy lounge bar (both with open fires), spacious restaurant or the large south facing beer garden.
Stayed in the village for a break and visited this pub twice. Very friendly landlord and staff with great reasonable prices on drinks and food. Our meal was great, home cooked pub food. Sirloin steak was perfect! Thank you for your hospitality on the borders.

Welcome to Glede Knowe, friendly, high quality and probably the best value accommodation in the village of Innerleithen, near Peebles, in the Scottish Borders. The house sits on an elevated site in an acre of quiet landscaped gardens with ample on-site parking. Rooms are spacious and furnished to the highest of standards and we provide a fresh cooked Scottish or continental breakfast. Glede Knowe is an ideal centre for mountain biking, cycling, or game fishing as well as for touring local castles, museums and gardens or a visit to Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland.
We stayed here for 3 nights for a celebratory break and an opportunity to walk in the local area. Glede Knowe is ideally located, set back from the main road in an elevated location with hill views, yet easily accessible for local eateries. Guy was a great host and had taken great care to cater for my husband's lactose intolerance. Thanks again! Our room and the guest dining room/lounge were spotless and nicely decorated. We slept very well and had a satisfying and tasty breakfast each morning. We appreciated being able to use the comfortable guest lounge each evening and also on our morning of departure while waiting to attend an event at the NTS Printing Works. We will definitely be returning to this gem of a 'walker friendly' guest house.

I met lots of nice local who were very friendly and most had dogs. The breakfast was good and the coffee was excellent. There was a music lesson night hosted by Ian Lowthian, Accordianist. along with his pupils and friends. What a great night. Can't praise this Inn enough. Give it a go folks

Booked 2 night stay here as had booked a late night session at Kielder Observatory (approx 30 minutes drive) Sandy was a great host and sent lots of information which helped us to plan our stay. There was also additional information on places to visit in the room. Sandy was very accommodating with a later breakfast/check out following our extremely late return from Kielder at 3:45am! Our room was very large with an ensuite bathroom, it was lovely to have tea & coffee making facilities with fresh milk and a selection of drinks and snacks. Breakfast was amazing with locally produced items and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this very remote but beautiful part of the world.

My main statement is that I d stay here again if in the area . The removal of one star is that it s a big climb up many stairs as this used to be the bank managers house - living above the bank ( now a restaurant) Donna the host was lovely. Very helpful. Good quality and well cooked breakfast. The website does intimate bathrobes, which weren’t in my room, but I m sure one would have appeared should I have needed to ask for one ! It does have a designated car park round the back, but one does have to hunt for it !

Stayed here for one night on our way further north. Easy check in before the pub opened as residents keys were in envelopes just inside the door. Room was large & fairly clean. The pub opened at 6pm & so we went to have an evening meal & met the owners who were both lovely. The meal itself was very average & not good value for money The bed was comfy & we slept well When I booked the room I had contacted the Craw inn to request a Gluten Free breakfast & a vegetarian breakfast which I was told was fine. We were extremely disappointed to find that there was no GF bread or vegetarian options available I wouldn’t recommend The Craw inn

I visited for lunch with my husband while we were staying at a nearby hotel. We both had nachos to start, they were very fresh with home - made salsa, best nachos either of us have ever had. My husband had mac & cheese with chips and he loved it. For my main I had an open beef sandwich with gravy, think I made the wrong choice with this as the bread and beef were both too chunky for my taste, and there was also half a plate of salad which is far too much. The staff were lovely and friendly, we'd definitely visit again if we were in the area.
