In a little town called Laguardia there's a solace for the tired, stressed traveler: it's a house we call Erletxe, where troubles fade into the warm and soft murmur of country life. Surrounded by nature, history and life, this country house has been offering accommodation to whoever seeks it under its roof — and leaving good memories in the minds of those of us lucky enough to share the slow flow of time inside its walls.
We had a beautiful room with a view of the fields outside the city wall. Laura is the best tour guide, ever! She gave us great advice (and even called to make reservations) on bodega tours and historical sites. There are so many wineries in the caves beneath the city that it would have been hard to decide. The ones she suggested were perfect for us - the oldest, Casa Primicia, and the one still producing wine within the city walls, Bodega El Fabulista. The 2 tours were quite different and complimented each other. We also visited a great castle on our way to our next location, at her suggestion.

Samaniego is a little town from where you can explore the Rioja Alavesa area. In Samaniego itself there is not much to see or do. There is more going on 15 mins down the road in Laguardia (Guardia) or Elciego, or 30 mins to Logrono. Amaia is a fantastic host, and she helped us with winery tours and restaurants in the area. She was always available for help which is great in an area where not too many people speak English. The casa rural itself is authentic and a bit "dark" by design to be protected against high temperatures outside. The rooms are clean. We had a room on the 1st floor with a tiny bathroom but luckily a 2x2 m bed as compensation.

"Lagun Etxea" Rural Guesthouse is a detached building which has been refurbished and retains the external structure of the typical buildings of the Valles Alaveses Region. It is located in the Alavese town of Pobes, the nerve centre of the Region and the main town in the Municipality of Ribera Alta. "Lagun Etxea" Rural Guesthouse has consists of two floors and six bedrooms, all with their own bathroom (all bathrooms have heated towel rails) and flat-screen TV. There is also a fully equipped Kitchen-Txoko, ideal for celebrations with family or friends or for corporate events. Outside, for exclusive use by guests, there are two terraces for relaxing on days when the weather is fine.
On arrival we were shown to our room and all seemed fine until I noticed the temperature of the room. It was very cold even though the heating was on full. The walls, floors, bedding and beds were freezing cold. The house must not have been insulated and no amount of heating would help that problem. There was also a bad smell in the bathroom. Our payment had already been taken the day before so the owner kept our money without us even staying there. I asked for a refund and I was ignored even though we only had the room for an hour. Do not stay here unless you want frost bite and bad smells.

Arrived and waited at property for the siesta to finish as hadn’t booked. We were greeted well and we communicated with our terrible Spanish quite well with the owner who was very patient with us. We were offered a selection of rooms. We took one at rear of property just in case the road was busy. Which by the way it wasn’t. Very clean. Brilliant shower Very quiet and breakfast excellent. Nice lounge area and lots of information for walks and local area. Park nearby around the lake peaceful and nice too. Highly recommend. Thanks

Right in the old centre - location couldn't be more perfect. It's an interesting property. We had a wonderful attic room. Quite spacious. Spotlessly clean. Very comfortable big bed. It's not really a hotel but more of a B&B, although there's nobody to check you in. You get given an access code for the door. There was a lovely communal living room with sofas and books and a kitchen. Wasn't really sure of the set-up - almost felt you were in someone else's house, so I suppose you could use the fridge and kitchen facilities - there was a coffee machine and kettle and teas and coffees. We were there early October and there weren't any other guests (they have 8 rooms). In the morning someone had laid out breakfast - nice breads and jams and things. Really nice place. But just to mention it's not a hotel - if that's the sort of thing you're after - there was no "reception" as such. And quite a few (beautiful, wooden) stairs up to the rooms, so not good for people with mobility needs. But an excellent place. Really loved it.

This hotel and nearby restaurant/bar are run by a brother and sister, who both speak reasonable English, whether you need or want them to or not. The room we had was next to the reception desk and very comfortable despite not being particularly large. Bed was comfy and the linens immaculate. Room could’ve done with a fridge but was otherwise fine. The bathroom was well stocked with amenities and modern. There wasn’t an opening window for fresh air overnight as it looked out through french doors to its own little patio area. I would recommend it for anyone wanting a peaceful stay somewhere a bit different

We stayed here for one night en-route to Santander. It's a lovely old house which has been renovated with care & attention to detail. The room was perfect for us, the bed was comfortable and everything was very clean.Ana was a wonderful host and breakfast was good. The only slight downside is getting to the house in a car as the road is one way and blocked by a retractable barrier, parking outside is also difficult although there is parking at the end of the road, a short walk away. Do not be put off by this, it's well worth the effort to get there.
