We stayed here our first night on the island. After a long day of travel we were glad we got a room with AC (but have acclimated sense then!). Staff stirred up a stiff rum and tonic for us as we settled in. The staff also arranged for airport pick up ($60 EC) and Car rental. (Thank you!) Our room was quite basic with its own bathroom, a wee fridge, coffee (tea) maker, bed was fine. The room across the hall was larger, prettier (but no AC). We never made it out to the pool but beach towels were provided. The food was scrumptious and moderately priced. We had both dinner and breakfast there. We returned a few days later for their famed Sunday brunch and were very satisfied. Olveston House looks over the volcanic mountain Soufriere, though trees in the front yard obstruct the view. Walk the property and you’ll see it venting in its ominous magnificence. Owned by “fifth Beatle” and music producer George Martin (now passed on) and his wife, the Olveston House hallway hosts original black and white photos taken and signed by Linda McCartney.

Since May 2018, Kaz and Dom are the new owners and managers of the Essence Guest House. The Essence is situated on the hillside of Old Towne, offering a great view of the Belham valley up to the beach. It is just a 5-minute stroll to the beach. From the pool deck and patio you have fantastic views on the volcano, the beach and the Belham valley. We are looking forward to sharing this little piece of paradise with you!
Spent almost 4 weeks with another couple at Essence Feb-Mar 2020. Our trip was cut short thanks to Covid19. We had the top floor which is a spacious 2 bedroom apartment. Everything we needed was there. Dom and Kaz are fantastic hosts. They lived in the 1 bedroom on the lower level. Their home is amazing. Guesthouse is a little misleading as there are 2 entirely separate apartments. We spent our daylight hours exploring or sitting on the patio and swimming in the pool. There are a couple of restaurants/bars walking distance. Walked to Isles Bay Beach every day for a swim. Strolled the neighbourhood! It was the perfect vacation! We are already planning our next visit to Essence and to see Dom And Kaz!!!

Erindell Villa is a delightful little guesthouse with a large swimming pool. It is nestled among colourful tropical gardens in Woodlands, Montserrat - the "Emerald Isle of the Caribbean". Renovated in 2009 thanks to the Montserrat Tourist Board’s Challenge Fund Grant, we are close to the volcano observatory, bus routes, Woodlands Beach, hiking trails and the village of Salem. Each fully-equipped room features a private entrance, two comfortable twin beds with Simmons Maxipedic mattresses (can be made up as a king bed), a private shower with hot and cold water, iron, ironing board and hair drier. Our complimentary services and amenities include a hearty continental breakfast served ANYTIME, a basket full of snacks (for stays of two nights or longer), a bowl of fruit, sodas and juices, unlimited tea and coffee, maid service, laundry service, Internet access, long-distance calls via Skype, all linens and towels, beach towels, beach mats and beach umbrella, snorkeling gear and a cell phone for your personal use. There’s no catch – it’s all free!
We stayed three nights with Lou and Shirley in the guest house. They are great people. Shirley is so full of stories and history of the island and all the comings and goings and the challenges that the island faces. She took us on a tour of most of the island and connected us with Winston, a taxi driver who also rents cars (so easy to here and affordable). We ate dinner out with our hosts every night. You have to call around to see what is open. The pool was refreshing and the atmosphere was pretty much tourist free (on the entire island). Kind of funny sleeping in two single beds, but honestly I was just fine with it. We had a really nice time here.

The location is about 10 minutes drive from both the seaport and airport. The host graciously picked me up and brought me to the property. There is a great view. The room is quite spacious. I couldn't have asked for a more gentle and respectful host. The only negative was the front door did rattle with the wind and rain. It's a pity that I couldn't have stayed longer.

We didn't stay at the Green Monkey, nor did we dive. We did however, drink and hang out at the bar with the owners (Melanie and Troy) and go an excellent boat tour of Plymouth with Troy. The bar is well stocked, by Montserration standards, affordable by any standard and very friendly. They show movies on Friday nights, while we were there in March it was Oscar season and we watched a few of the movies that were up for rewards. Make sure you try the rum punch. The boat tour to Plymouth was very informative. There were 7 of us total on the tour, including Troy. He provided a good amount of history on the island and provided a lot of local insight as to the inner workings, politics and way of life on the island. Melanie and Troy were both very helpful, very engaging and went the extra mile to make sure you were enjoying your time on the island. Troy even offered us a ride half-way across the island to our guesthouse on his way home one night. We didn't partake in the diving, but did speak with people who had. Not surprising, nothing but positive stuff to be heard. If you have any business in Montserrat (diving, touring, drinking, sight-seeing, relaxing, etc), you'd be remiss to not try and conduct as much of it as possible at the Green Monkey.

'Home away from home.' The suites have an air-conditioned bedroom with king/queen sized or twin beds. For natural cross breeze ventilation, switch off the a/c and open the screened louvered window. Each suite opens onto a patio with glimpses of the blue Caribbean sea through a profusion of palm fronds. Concealed behind louvered doors is a kitchenette for the preparation of drinks and light meals. After exploring Montserrat, "the way the Caribbean use to be," come back to your private accommodation, enjoy a drink on the patio, watch the birds flitting through the foliage, watch for the green flash as the sun goes down - for the quintessential Caribbean experience. At night, lie back, be seduced by the sight of the moon shining through the palms, and enjoy nature's music: the song of the frogs, the sound of waves lapping on the shore, the river and the trade winds rustling through the foliage.
so relaxing and comfortable here, great rooms and area. Sharmaine and Nigel are the perfect hosts who can`t do enough to make your stay special. Near a lovely little town of Salem. Love this island and love all the people here!!!

This is a B&B, but the owner and staff offer far more than a conventional B&B would provide. Theresa (the owner) arranged for a rental car, pickup at the airport, and an inexpensive rental cell phone for use during our visit. We had a brief introduction to the history and landmarks of Montserrat on our arrival and then scheduled a private tour of the volcano zone for another day. The room was comfortable with plenty of space and a lovely balcony. Best of all, everyone on the island seemed to know Theresa which made logistics simple. Breakfast included fresh fruit from the gardens of the guest house. Visitors can book a dinner for the dining room - expect a treat!
